Well, managed to finally reach amagdalya after dying dozens of times by either greed, poison, frenzy, pulverising or growing impatience. I died on my first attempt at amagdalya after getting him/her health down 1/3 but I think I'll leave that battle for a couple of nights. It's much easier to get back there now though and experiment.

After finishing the DLC and the rest of NG+ I'm now in NG++ and only one trophy away from platinum. The last of the NG+ bosses (Mergo's Wet Nurse and Gehrman) went really easy as expected. Only needed one attempt for the wet nurse and two attempts for Gehrman because I managed to fail a couple of critical dodges when he was only one hit away from dying.

In NG++ I summoned Gascoigne by mistake so I did NG++ Cleric Beast with his help not that I would have needed it.

I just defeated The One Reborn on my first attempt, which is saying a lot considering how difficult it was reaching him in the first place. A rather disappointing battle to be honest in terms of difficulty for a boss at this stage of the game. While I admit that I stumbled upon the doorway to the above section completely by mistake, I was surprised that all it took to win after killing the bell ringers was simply a case of button mashing into his belly for a short time.

There have been some pretty awesome boss fights so far though, with a decent variety of different tactics required to beat most of them. There's one guy ( Elder something... that I'm stuck on in a Chalice dungeon that has been giving me hell; particularly when he switches to two weapons.

At any rate, I need a little break for a week from the haha you're dead experience of Nightmare of Mensis.

I play this game for about a week now, currently at Burgenwerth.

At first, I was meh about it, it seemed to lack many things compared to Souls, and was a bit too hard for my liking, especially the boss fights. I felt like I was playing DS2 DLCs difficulty-wise.

But now, after Hemwick and especially Forbidden Woods, I think I love it. The latter were so beautiful and huge compared to any Souls locations. Actually, many places in this game remind me of... RE4. And the main thing mechanics-wise which differs from Souls is (no, not a lack of effective shields but) an abundance of stealth and stealth kills, and I like it very much.

Also, I think I like this environment and atmosphere more than Souls ones.

I've tried beating the Orphan of Kos several times, but I tend to die once he's down to 33% or 25% of his health. Seems there aren't that many coop partners available around there, since I've called for helpers several times without anyone turning up after 5+ minutes. Guess I'll have to improve my dodge'n'backstab skills.

Once I'm done with him, all that's left is the main game's two final fights. Like the Souls games, I've greatly enjoyed this, but I don't feel all that much of a need to go NG+. After this I think it may finally be time to play some Destiny, which I hope will be a nice change of pace.

... so, after getting killed by the Orphan of Kos about ten times, never even getting his health below 25%, yesterday he decided to give me a break, and I managed him in one go. I didn't even run out of blood vials; I think he must've been drunk, because he barely touched me in the second phase, where before I couldn't get near him without getting hit repeatedly. Almost a bit of an anti-climax...

Now let's see what's so bad about this Gehrman guy.

Finished yesterday; after The Old Hunters (and being ludicrously overleveled, as I always tend to be in these games), I found Gehrman and the Moon Presence pretty easy. I died to the former twice and to the latter once, but no comparison to, say, the Orphan of Kos. I then played NG+ until the big fight on the bridge, and it's funny how easy the Cleric Beast and its move set seems now.

Anyway, glad to have played the game, glad to have finished it, but now I'm all From Software-ed out until Dark Souls 3.

The final 2 bosses were by no means the most difficult in the game but I absolutely loved the fight against Gehrman. It was such a beautiful setting and in stark contrast to the gloomy atmosphere of the rest of the game.

While I thought BB was incredible, by the end of the game I had a similar feeling to you in that I didn't feel like committing to a NG+ playthrough. There are two main reasons for this. The first is that there were a number of sections that I just got through by the seat of my pants and I don't feel would be much fun to play through at an increased difficulty level. The second is that compared with DS, there is much less variety in alternative playstyles on offer.

This is the main reason why I haven't purchased the DLC yet as I don't want to play it on a more difficult setting when it seems pretty jacked up already.

Almost finished vanilla (except final fight and upper cathedral ward) , but the thing is I understood basically nothing story-wise, even though I had read every description and every note. Is it normal? It seems this time FromSoft surpassed even themselves regarding story obscurity.

@twisty: The one thing I may just appreciate most about Bloodborne (in addition to the amazing atmosphere) is that it finally pushed me to play more aggressively. In every Souls game, I went for the slow and methodical shields'n'sword approach, but I think that come DS3 I might try something a bit more aggressive, with the shield being more of a back-up option.

Yes, interestingly enough I've also found that I'm better at DS now as well. While I was in HK recently I started up a new DS1 game on my SurfacePro 3 and found the bosses comparatively easier than what I remembered them being. While I have no doubt improved as a player overall I think that BB has taught me how to play more confidently in terms of being able to take measured risks without throwing all caution to the wind.

@242: While originally found the following summary to be fairly helpful, having stumbled upon it towards the end of my playthrough, I also like some of the insights in this following article.

Just fisnished the Orpahan too. First phase became easy after about 10 attempts, I found almost a fail-safe method. But second phase... it seems lady luck plays major part there. Basically, I used charged R2s after Orphan's high jumps, and also gatling +9 helped.

Overall, the DLC was good and I liked its 2nd and 3rd areas very much, but the 1st area and the Orphan boss fight weren't fun -- too many hunters in the 1st area plus recycled design, and too hectic final boss.

Now to the optional boss of the DLC.

PS: The optional boss was quite easy with NPC summon, much easier than the Orphan. I also read the plot explanation above, and the plot makes sense now, thanks. But still there are some blank spots, f.e. what is Paleblood (either synonym of the old blood, the Old Ones generally, or the Moon Presence), and what is the catalyst of the Beast Scourge (the ritual/Mergo, or the Moon Presence). The reasons of the MP are also unclear, it was called by Laurence and co. but why? Overall, the plot in this game is the most obscure of all From games I've ever played.

I also tried Pthumerian dungeons, depth 1 and 2 were easy, 3 already quite challenging with my BL 100+, and on depth 4 I was shredded to bits, I think I'm not ready for it yet. Shudder to think about depth 5.

Almost done with the story portion of BB. Absolutely fantastic game - nearly flawless! And here I was worried I was getting tired of Souls games. This might be a better game and potentially a better franchise than Dark Souls! There's still a lot of potential that could be squeezed out of this universe especially when Lovecraft's dreamlands are taken into account. An entire game could be made exploring mind bending alien landscapes like the Nightmare Frontier.

This one is really a master class in game design and environmental story telling. They managed to maximize a minimum of art assets in a way that makes sense within the context of the story and avoid getting stale. When you think about it there are actually far fewer enemies than the Souls games, yet each enemy tends to have more depth than their souls counterparts.

This game nails Lovecraft and I hope it's success means we'll be getting a renaissance in cosmic horror themed games. Also it saddens me to think the 3D castlevanias are trying so hard to be god of war when they are so much better suited to this genre.
