I had some trouble installing Metro:
When I claimed it, it got listed as "Petunia", greyed out, and I was told that the OS was "unsupported". No clear idea what to do at the time -- and I had other things on my mind -- so I left it like that for a couple of days. Today I happened by an advice in the Steam forums about it, and after clearing out parts of the temporary webcache folder for the Epic games launcher -- more specifically the cache folders -- I was allowed to install and play the game. Most likely I won't continue playing it, though; I just wanted to try it out while it's free.

Now I'm curious to what petunia has to do with Metro, though!?

In Epic's epic quest to make every game I've already bought free, this round's offering is Minit. I haven't even played it yet, but I like the style and premise.

Epics current freebies are Observer and Alan Wake. Alan does not interest me in the slightest, but Observer is excellent and a MUST PLAY if you love cyberpunk, or investigation style games. I really enjoyed it overall.

Well, I couldn't sleep so I figured now was as good a time as any to finally play Plasmaworm. Good game!

So tempted to try it and see if I still get the same issue as I did 18 years ago. I still use the same keyboard.

Great game - I played a few times and sort of dismissed it in a "seen it all before" sort of way, then the addiction kicked in!

However, am I the only person to suffer from a bit of a bug? When I'm playing sometimes one of the keys gets "stuck", usually careering me into a nearby wall. The stuck key persists until I use it again, but the natural thing if you're stuck turning right is to press left... which doesn't do anything. This problem also persists after losing a life (i.e. you immediately turn back on yourself when you start), but not after losing a whole game.

    I love Brainpipe so much.

(It works perfectly for me under WINE as well.)

This one almost passed unannounced. Epic's giveaway this week is Layers of Fear and Qubo 2 until Oct. 31. From Nov 1 it's going to be Soma and Costume Quest. Soma's cool.

Costume Quest is also cool. It's a nice short Halloween-themed throwback to JRPGs like EarthBound.

    You mean from today.

Next Thursday Nuclear Throne and Ruiner are going to be up for grabs.

Nice of 'em to give out what's one of the best horror games ever made right before Halloween, huh.

    SOMA's good, too.

I'm kidding. Costume Quest is fun, but for fuck's sake anyone who's a horror game fan play SOMA if they haven't yet.

Says Nov 1 for me. Keep in mind that most of what someone from the US calls "today" is actually "tomorrow" for me in Japan.

The two are available for a week now.

    Next week is The Messenger.

Ruiner I played a few minutes of early this year. If you like mindless arcade style action, with a cyberpunk slant then you'll like it.

Personally I couldn't see it as a game that I'd spend a lot of time in.
