Thread: Square Enix Forums?

What even is Thief to Square-Enix anymore? I already went over the only reason it turned a profit several times, so I'm wondering what Thief is to Square in 2019. I doubt they would sell it for pennies but I still wonder if it's something that would be viable for a company like Night Dive to purchase the rights to, and maybe just let Square have a small stake in the IP like they do with Hitman.

I just received this response from Square Enix following another customer support request:

"Unfortunately, the official Square Enix Forums are currently deactivated. However, there are official forums for Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV. We currently have no further information on the Square Enix Forums, but you are welcome to leave any feedback, which will be forwarded to the appropriate parties.
    Thank you,
    Agent Kerry

Just giving you all the steps of my conversation with Square Enix.

"Thank you for your reply. Could you give me information on whether it is deactivated temporarily or permanently? If permanently, is there anywhere I can access an archive of those forums? There is a lot of important historical information in those threads and in posts therein that would be devastating to lose for many gaming fans. Especially archived threads from the old Eidos forums that Square Enix absorbed in 2014. If I could access the old threads then I could save at least some of the important information and it could be hosted and made available elsewhere for those interested. I just find it strange that it would be deactivated without anyone getting a chance of salvaging some of the information first. Hopefully you understand, and thank you again for your response and for your time."

    Square Enix:
"At this point in time, it appears the forums are deactivated, whether temporary or permanent, has yet to be determined. We understand that there is quite a bit of information that would like to be recovered, but as of now, that is not possible due to the deactivation. The Support Center will follow up on this deactivation to see what can be done, and forward the feedback further to the appropriate department. We apologize, but not much more information can be garnered about this issue at this moment."

At least their last response leaves me hope the forums will be reactivated at some point, or at least the information be made available.

At least it sounds like they didn't just wipe the server, although I still wouldn't hold out much hope of ever seeing it again.

Just bumping this thread to see if anyone has any more information on where the Square Enix forums have gone, or if there are archives of any of the older threads anywhere. I am in the process of salvaging the pages from the 'FMs Ghost/Perfect Thief Results' series, parts 3-7 (the others are complete). If anyone could help me search for cached copies or knows of any tricks in that regard, I would be eternally grateful.

The following pages are still missing:
    Part 3 - Pages 1, 2 and 3
    Part 4 - Pages 2 and 3
    Part 5 - Pages 5, 7 and 8
    Part 6 - Pages 2, 4 and 7
    Part 7 - Pages 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12

I finally got a more solid response from Square Enix. Sadly, it is as I feared.

We thank you for contacting us today. Unfortunately, those forums are no longer available and cannot be accessed. We apologize for the inconvenience.

    Thank you,
    SQUARE ENIX Customer Support

Honestly, I think they formatted the server by accident, or something to that nature. Regardless, years of thief discussions by loyal and devoted fans, all gone...

That's really too bad. This franchise sure doesn't get a lot of love from the IP owner(s)

I don't have time at the moment to dive too far in, but do you think there are maybe some old forum pages in the old Eidos Montreal forums (, or whatever their web address was or came to be) that are still accessible in the Internet Wayback Machine? I found these which is nice nostalgia in terms of the look and feel of the site, but haven't had any luck finding any actual forum content (i.e., posts)...

This is awesome!! Thank you so much, Darkness_Falls! I managed to find 8 more of the lost pages from your first link. I have searched for on Wayback Machine several times before, and I have found the threads, but none of the posts have ever been available. Well, now things were different!

The following pages are now missing:
    Part 3 - Page 3
    Part 5 - Pages 7 and 8
    Part 6 - Pages 2, 4 and 7
    Part 7 - Pages 3, 6, 8, 10 and 11

Edit: I only did a quick search, so if anyone wants to have a deeper dig, please do. Some of the missing pages might be in there somewhere.

Hey!! Right on! Glad it helped! I don't know what this "Ghost/Perfect Thief Results" is all about or what its importance is (maybe you can explain/educate?), but does the following link point to anything you don't have?

For example, it seems to successfully point to these pages, which possibly fill in some of your gaps? But based on your nomenclature of "Part X - Page X", I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for; as the pathing for these seems to be "Part X - Part X"

    * "Part 7: Part 3" ->
    * "Part 7: Part 6" ->

I found the above Part 7 link from here, which you maybe already found and that's how you filled in some gaps already:

PS: It's so weird to be able to look at the old forums like this...

And see sporadic posts/threads like this... Thief: FAN ART Gallery:

Just bumping the thread to let people know where to go to start looking for the missing ghost report threads listed in the previous post. If so, start here:

That is what remains of Eidos' archived Thief threads. I dug some more, but couldnt add to my previously recovered pages. Please let me know if you do.

Hey, i didnt see your post when i did my last one, Darkness_Falls. Let me explain the system. The ghost reports over time has been divided up into threads called 'FMs - Ghost/Perfect Thief Results (Part X)', where X=1 to 8. The Eidos archive linked to HERE contained parts 3-7 of this series. These are the threads that got lost when Square Enix removed their forum website. Each part has anywhere from 4 to 12 pages, depending on how big the moderator at the time wanted the thread to be before stopping it and creating the next part.

The link you call * "Part 7: Part 3" is actually Part 3: Page 1. See the thread title for what part it is in parenthesis, and then for the page you can see in the top right corner, above the thread tools and display modes that number 1 is bolded, out of a total of 4 pages for that part.

The one you call "Part 7: Part 6" is Part 6: Page 1, although its incomplete, and includes a few posts from a later page in the same part. Part 6 overall seems heavily butchered on Wayback Machine.

However, thank you for attempting, and please do continue!

Edit: Its important because it was the only place hundreds of ghost reports were saved for many fan missions from eager ghosters (such as myself) between 2002 and 2012. We have (or had) a complete list of those reports in the current part 8 HERE. All the reports in red in that list are those that have been lost, but that I'm trying to salvage as best i can.

Very good news!!! I decided to get to know Wayback Machine a bit more and learned how to nagivate the URLs better. I managed to search for specific pages within threads and found loads more of the missing pages. Some are still incomplete and there are 1 or 2 pages that are still tough to find, but we might just get this one back to a complete status soon. YAY!!

As you probably can tell, this project is becoming my 4th child...

Good job, Klatremus! And thanks for explaining the issue and significance I understand better now.

Since you've done so well in this endeavor, is there anything maybe from the Ion Storm Austin forums you wish to bring back? Ha! Could be a 5th child for you, though?

Granted, I just did a couple searches (i.e., "")and the Wayback Machine isn't finding any forum pages except the main page so far. I wonder what secrets lie within...
