Flight Unlimited 1995 Ver on XP

Hi I am trying to run a version of flight unlimited from 1995 on Windows XP. Is this possible? Are there any patches avail?

Really enjoy playing this great game. Upgraded to a whole new Pc with Win XP proffessional a while ago havent had any success in getting game to play. Installs fine Audio card installs fine, but when I run Autoexec bat file it seems to lock up. Game never starts. Suspect its due to the program looking for CD on Drive D which is a second hard drive on my PC.

There's a patch, but I believe it only applies to the original DOS version. FU '95 was an updated version of the sim, so I don't think the patch is relevant.

All I can suggest personally is setting compatibility mode to Win95, but others might know more/better.

The FU3 forum goers at avsim.com might be able to assist, too.

I strongly doubt it is making such an absurd assumption (unless you mean that you have added the new drive since first installing the game, in which case just reinstall the game!). FWIW you can (at least under normal circumstances) copy the entire contents of the CD to a directory on your HD, and then install the game from that -- you won't need the CD at all afterwards.

Yea When I said "but when I run Autoexec bat file" I meant to say when I run the program. it locks up..

Tied re-installing the game several times but it still never tries to access the CD Rom drive. I will try copying the entire cd to drive.

Not sure where to find the setting to change the compatability mode to Win95.

Will try a post at The FU3 forum.

Me neither -- I don't run WinXP -- but I'm reliably led to believe that such settings do exist, and sometimes do the trick with older games. You could search in the "troubleshooting" forum here, or at Microsoft's site, or probably even just at Google.

Try browsing the folder containing the executable file, right-clicking it and going to the 'Compatibility' tab.

Changed Compatability to run with Win2000,WINNT,98 and 95. Still didnt work. Any other suggestions?

I'm running Xp-Pro Sp2, Dx9c, Amd64 3000+(754socket), Bfg6200-OC-256, 2gig ddr400

My Flight Unlimited for Win95 is installed on my "E" drive. That drive is formatted fat32. I had previously been using Win98se from my "C" drive. I have since re-formatted "C" to ntfs and installed WinXp-Pro Sp2.

You should not need your Flight Unlimited CD when flying. Here is a copy of my flite.cfg located in the Flight95 install directory. As you can see, some additional folders require copied from the Flight95 cd and pasted into the Flight95 install directory. Then you need to edit your flite.cfg to reflect the locations of the folders:

I had forgot about this great simulator and I really did not exected it to run on my new WinXP computer. But today I installed it and I have been having fun the whole evening. Now I am able to play it in full resolution with every detail turned on - something I dreamed about 11 years ago :-)

I was not easy though. It kept crashing on me. Most often when I returned to the FBO from the logbook. But also during flight I expirienced these crashes. Anycase I solved it by launching dxdiag.exe and decrease "Hardware acceleration" for my sound to the minimum setting. Now everything is fun and games.

By the way, If you are interested in aerobatics, FU95 is IMHO the best simulator for spins and snaps - it does them perfect! But I really wish there was a more resent aerobatic simulator available...

And yes, even taking into account that Flight Unlimited was entirely focussed on aerobatics, it's still astonishing that nothing has entirely surpassed it in all the intervening years!

Thanks so much. I am sorry to say I just now learned about TTLG, even though I have been a fan of FU since it came out. I started my aerobatic carer in real planes around 1994 so FU was most welcome at the time :-)

There are 2 releases of flight unlimited. The first was in 1995 for windows 95 but the DOS version. The second release was in 1996 for windows 95, not dos. The only version that will play in XP is the 1996 release for windows 95. If it dosen't play, try the compatibility mode in Windows NT. I have the windows 95 dos version that wont play on my Xp machine. I downloaded the flight unlimited demo for 95 and it plays in windows NT mode with no problem.
