The central light cannot be extinguished, but shouldn’t make you overly visible. The floor lights and the lights high on the periphery are connected…

Just starting this one and really loving it! Quick question...everything else seems to be working, but for some reason readables look like this:

Anyone have an idea what could be causing this? It doesn't ruin the FM for me, but it's kind of annoying.

It would appear that the secret item is randomly placed.

This mission was FAN. FREAKING. TASTIC.

I can't believe the quality that's been on display in this contest...this is right up there with the best Thief Gold FMs I've ever played!

And it was a perfect celebration of Thief, as well. You go to a city, a manor, a hammerite cathedral, a haunted crypt, pagan caves-- it's like an entire Thief game rolled up into two hours! Though I feel like a lot of people will consider it their least favorite part, the maze you need the tome to navigate was a highlight for me. Forcing us to go back through it with an unstoppable monster on our asses was downright DASTARDLY.

Question: not far from the graveyard, just before you turn off into the city square where Argeaux is hanging, there's a power station with a really obvious secret door on its second floor. How do you get it? The not nearby makes me think its connected to the pagan tunnels beneath the tower in some way, but I never found out how...

This was terrific, thanks for creating it!

After you've disrupted the ritual, search the outer edges of that pagan area closely. If you're careful, you'll find a tunnel that leads to the other side of that door.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. That particular bit is definitely marmite for players. Really glad you enjoyed the chase!

Finished on Normal in around 3 hours with 2539 loot and 17 secrets. I wasn't able to solve the mausoleum puzzle at first, but with the help of the ancient tome from the lady's mansion, it was easy. Of the TDP20A contest missions that try to include all classic TDP elements (City, Mansion, Tomb, Hammerite and Pagan), this one pulled it off the best I think.

The area in memory of MsLedd was touching. The whole graveyard is dark, except for the candles in that little corner.

Two things that could be fixed after the contest in a new version:
    1. If the player stands in the doorframe of the library where brother Milton patrols, the light gem goes completely dark.
    2. If the player slashes the two hanging banners in brother Darios's former room, the lower part of their remains appear to be floating in midair.

I doused all the mushrooms in monster's cave. Then I stood behind it, took the hand, staying in darkness near wall slowly returned to the corridor and then escaped fast. So the monster didn't even notice me. The escaping route in case of chasing is also very easy and fast.

Wow, that was really amazing mission to ghost. It took me 2 hours 42 min. I got 2242 loot out of 3262 and 11 out of 24 secrets. I could do a mission a little faster, but I had a problem with getting enough loot. Luckily I found some gold vases at the entrance room of Di Rupo Manor. I also skipped wooden chest with loot in it, because pick locking it cause sleeping man to wake up. I managed to ghost everything with exception of story related stuff (KO-ing Anax and unavoidable second alert after stopping the ritual).

I had problem with stationary archer looking at Fishmonger Area when I was taking Anax to the meeting place. But the hardest thing was ghosting ritual. The first time I pickpocket the Hand and the light in the whole area got turn on. And I noticed that even though I stopped the ritual by taking hand, I still need to rescue Anax. And with fully lighted area it was impossible. I reloaded previous save and this time my target was Anax. I used 3 moss arrows and wait until darkness. 1 or 2 seconds before darkness I started my run, took Anax, turn around and run + jump to shadow. This was tricky. Kinda embarassed, but it took me 15 min to find exit cave.

I decided to not free prisoner from Hammerite Compound, because it look like he noticed me and second alert. I have no idea if I should also put back the Hand to Prophet Tomb and Anax back to crypt or his bed.

Anyway it was really solid mission and I like it a lot, but I have 1 question: Is there any hint how to solve the elemental levers riddle from Argaux's house? I managed to do that by trial and error.

Impressive work! It is also possible to douse the lights in the ritual chamber (temporarily or permanently), though whether that breaks any of the rules you're playing by I don't know.

Yes, just search the room a little more and you should find a couple of relevant items.

For some reason this mission tries to load as a Thief 2 mission in my NewDarkloader. Can someone tell me the way how to fix this? Thank you!

This sounds to me like you're still using Darkloader, not NewDarkloader. Darkloader is known to improperly detect Thief 1/Gold missions made for NewDark as Thief 2 missions. I strongly recommend against using Darkloader to launch this mission (or any other contest mission).

With NewDarkloader (as with NewDark's built in FMSel), you should have configured cam_mod.ini for the game to use the loader, then launch the game's exe itself—the question of the loader detecting whether a mission is for Thief 1 or Thief 2 doesn't apply.

Thank you for your reply, but I'm definitely using NewDarkloader. The mission starts to load and then crashes back to Windows, and the warning box says that Thief 2 crashed. Running NewDark 1.26, required scripts, etc., so I guess this is an annoying one-of error.

What a terrific mission, my new favourite TDP20AC mission. Completed on expert in about 4 hours. I spent another hour searching high and low, forwards and backwards which increased my loot by 120 and secrets by 2. I now have 2799/3264 loot and 19/24 secrets. Hmmm... so many secrets (and loot) still to be found.

Generally I'm not a great one for solving puzzles, but had no trouble solving the puzzle at Argaux's (loved the wooden boards) or the horns puzzle. However, I did explore the town first and found hints which helped before I tackled the puzzles.

For those troubled by the loot objective, I think the expert total loot objective is about right. For me the mission is one for exploring not rushing. Enjoy the effort and detail the author put in to create and craft the town and environs.... and with that exploring comes the rewards.

Firstly I love town missions, but to have so many thiefy elements - town, mansion, crypt, hammers, etc - so neatly packaged in the one mission made for a most enjoyable play. Thank you vfig.

Onwards to other TDP20AC missions but will be returning to this one to find the remaining loot and secrets.
