As far as "serious drama"-watching goes, I still got one last season of The Sopranos to watch before I can get to this, but would it be alright if I skipped True Detective S2 and went straight to S3? Whadayasay, internet?

Yeah. Yup. But that last season of The Sopranos should deffo take priority. I have a love-hate relationship with that show, but I can't deny it uses its characters well.

Season 2 was just terrible. It would have been terrible if it had been standalone. But after season 1, it became really really disappointing. I recommend nobody watches season 2. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it minus 10 (-10). That's how bad it was.

I'm really inclined to not watch season 3. Maybe I should wait until the last episode and then see how reviews are.

I'm looking for something (a series) to watch. Maybe I'll watch Twin Peaks season 3. The good thing about that is that I'll rewatch season 1 and 2 first. That will be 8 + 22 + 18 = 48 episodes. That'll keep me busy for a while. Anyone seen all three seasons ? Is it worth it to watch season 3 ? (I'm asking here because I don't want to dig up an old TP thread).

From what I've read so far, it seems that season 3 is massively improved over the disaster that was season 2, but it still falls short of the high water mark that was set by the first.

And Twin Peaks? If you remember everything that happened during the first two seasons, then you're pretty well set up for the 3. I wouldn't say it's absolutely necessary to watch them all again before diving into the new season, because it's is so tonally different than what came before. It's almost better to think of it as a totally different show that just happens to have the same characters and plot points of Twin Peaks.

S1 was shit the bed in the last episode or two imo. The climax was a real letdown after all that buildup, and it left me uninterested in seeing more of this show.

Gryz, IMO season 3 of Twin Peaks is the.. well, peak of the show. It's a full on 18hr Lynch film, if you're into that sort of thing. Don't expect everything to go somewhere, but it's all consistently entertaining.

Thanks for the recommendations about Twin Peaks. I've watched both series when they were originally broadcasted. (I've been a Lynch fan since I saw Eraserhead when I was 19). I've good a pretty good memory (I thought). But I have to admit that after 28 years I can't remember all the plots and twists and details of the first 2 seasons. So I'll rewatch S1 and S2. Actually, I've had the plan to rewatch those since the late nineties. A friend of mine had all episodes on VHS-tape. I never got around to go sit and rewatch them all (even in the digital age). Looking forward to do that. (Even though S2 was not always exciting).

About True Detective. I agree with Froghawk that the last episode of S1 was a real letdown. It changed season 1 from "potentially one of the best tv-shows ever" to "pretty good, worth watching". Still worth watching though.

I started watching the new episodes of True Detective last night, and just now finished the most recent.

It's not half bad. Already, it's better than what little I saw of the 2nd season, following more closely to the style of the first season. That said, it's not nearly so openly existential and surreal, feeling instead more grounded, like a true crime case with a lot of mysterious implications, rather than the down the rabbit hole craziness we saw in season 1.

Based on these first three episodes, I'd say its worth watching.
