    The Temple of the Tides - update v1.2 - 30 Aug 2020

    I've released an updated, NewDark version of The Temple of the Tides.

    The main change is replacing the ancient and problematic version of NVScript (that often failed to load on modern PCs) with a more recent version.
    I also added some scripting to display an error and prevent the player from continuing if NVScript fails to load for any reason.
    Some of the textures were replaced with the original high-res versions (though not all, as some looked worse / out-of-place at higher resolutions.)
    A full list of changes is below.

    The new version of the mission requires NewDark v1.27 or higher.

    This was mostly inspired by watching Garrett TMT's Let's Play, where he had to restart halfway through when he realised that all the scripting was broken.

    * Update 1.2 fixes *

    • Replaced old, outdated NVScript module that sometimes did not load on modern PCs.
    • Added warning if NVScript does not load for some reason.
    • Tweaked floor flame spout puzzle to be less unreliable, and also added a hidden way to bypass it.
    • Re-lit the level with NewDark 32-bit lighting.
    • Upgraded the resolution of some of the textures.
    • Fixed bug that could produce an infinite number of loose pages from the diary.
    • Tweaked evil ladder to make it much harder to fall off and get hurt.
    • Fixed bug where fire elementals would shrug off any damage which wasn't instantly lethal.
    • Added sound effect to sliding tile puzzle.
    • Added some water crystal pickups to the level.
    • Adjusted pre-game shop to sell water arrows.
    • Compass no longer needs to be purchased on higher difficulty levels.
    • Fixed splashing footsteps in some dry areas.
    • Some very minor tweaks to architecture.

    I did too! I did things a bit differently in a few areas. Lets just say, I forgot to check my key bind for the black jack, which was replaced by the torch. I never used the torch. I lured the fireball down to that area, to light that stand, for lack of a better word. Of course I died a few times. Crouched and backed into the room/s, once the 3 doors opened. I did it! But. Really well done, enjoyed it a lot.

    That was a pretty intuitive method! I did much better this time, and it would be nice to see more missions like this one.

    Nv has done a lot for the Thief community, but I'm happy when anyone releases new FMs.

    I just replayed this newer version on hard and had zero issues with the nvscript. I did have to look at the map as a cheat to find one last mirror mask. I also spent 15 minutes on the tile puzzle, just sort of in a trance, then gave up. I came back to it after a rest and solved it in about a minute. And just for fun, I experimented with the water elementals. I tried to beat them with my torch. Uh, not a good choice Best just to avoid them. Fun FM to replay and recommended if you haven't played it for a while.
