I can't even remember how long it was since I saw it.
... since you guys keep comparing it to SS2. Better late then never. Wow, everyone is so young like Morpheus! :P

Crappy flick! I was expecting more from EH to be like SS2.![]()
The setting is somewhat similar to SS2. The story, not so much.

Story is more Silent Hill than System Shock, other than the FTL bits.
Or Hellraiser in space. Oh wait that already happened.
I'd say it's heavily inspired by Warhammer 40K.
That's a bit silly -- you can't call a film crappy on the basis that it wasn't what you mistakenly thought it was going to be. I think you're actually disappointed that someone implied that EH and SS2 were similar. Personally I was disappointed with Event Horizon as well, so I won't argue that it's a great film; but SS2 has no bearing on that.
They rather overdid it with the weird pointless jump scares.
Yep. The film starts out feeling like sci-fi, but then abandons the sci-fi for vague horror tropes. It was a waste of a strong cast and good FX budget. They should have been able to make something smarter with the black hole premise.
I actually saw this in the theater. I loved the production design, and the clever handwave for how you could have a fog-shrouded spaceship, and the now-iconic audience-friendly explanation of how hyperspace drives work. But once plot started happening... ugh. I was reduced to sitting there ticking off every scene or shot or line of dialog that it ripped off from some other, better movie. It's like the writer put his top 10 favorite horror movies in a blender, added his top 10 favorite scifi movies, hit frappe, and dumped the result straight onto the page.
I can see why it's achieved cult favorite status, since it's basically fanfic with a multi-million budget, but make no mistake, it's not good.
pretty bad film but it's the best you can possibly expect from paul w.s. anderson, who is responsible for AvP and Resident Evil.
Now, Event Horizon as directed by Wes Anderson would have been something.
Heh. Fun to think about... Event Horizon as directed by:
Spike Lee
Al Gore
Joss Whedon
Kevin Smith
Zack Snyder
How about Paul T(homas) Anderson instead of W.S.? That should make for an interesting movie!![]()
Fantastic Punch Drunk Master of The Grand Event Horizon Hotel?
