Release a demo, if only to prove that the bloody thing exists. Anyway, the wandering around just experiencing the environment and the backstory was probably my favourite part of Deus Ex.

    Waitasec... The bloody exists?
It will when you release it.

    no demo, not for cassandra.

when you've spent so much time being deliberately vague* about the actual plot/content of the game, to present a chunk of this for deliberation would go some way to destroying the unmatchable 'first play' experience.

Certainly, the feedback could prove constructive but the temptation would not only be to change things which were originally set in stone, but also to reveal more of the game in order to gain further feedback.

Recruit playtesters to identify problems with the game, give the gamers the finished product.

Obviously, if you were to create an actual demo level which offers a taster of the gameplay, without raping any of the elements already in place, that could be constructive. A training facility, a previous cassandra mission, whatever.

But this means more work. a lot more work. Personally, i wouldn't want to stop developing the actual game in order to just throw some tidbit to the salivating masses. Better to hold on the demo, and let them eat cake.

*i assume the vagueness is deliberate...

/Phobia produces a serviette with hastily scrawled but Brem looking handwriting on it proclaiming Phobia's right to be a beta tester when the time arrises that they are needed.

Is that a legal document? Well I really would like to help out in some way, and my admitteldly still limited but growing knowledge will help me to identify problems.

Um... there are three missions in The Wind before anything the public doesn't know already gets revealed. And I plan only to release one of them (wb4). You silly boy.

  11. #36

Ah, Yes. wb4. I actually 'forgot' how much the 'public' already 'knows' about the 'plot' of The Wind.

and why the hell don't we ever use our forum? no. don't answer that.

We don't ever use our forum because:

    a) it's crap, and

    b) it's crap.

Not that anyone seems to mind.

So THIS is what Cassandra is. It all falls into place.

(Lucky I didn't sell Deus Ex. Maybe.)

I did think of another reason for releasing a demo. It will mean that I get the opportunity sooner to see how far I have to go before my levels begin to approach the required standard of Narcissus. Presumably the Entity demands infinitly good standards but I would merely wish to produce work that would prove I was worth assimilating, and once joined in the collective... perfection will be within my grasp.
