MY STICK IS FIGHT: A Thread about Fighting Game Controllers

    Anyone else use these?

Joyfriend has gotten me into fighting games and while I was using my 8bitdo M30 (modeled after the Sega Saturn controller, so it has six buttons) I'm a hopeless button masher, so for an early birthday/Christmas gift they bought me a Qanba Crystal. It's huginormous, too big to even keep in my bedroom in fact, I have to box it back up and keep the box out in the hall when I'm not using it (my bedroom is very small and space is at a premium).

Came in yesterday and I set it up for a few rounds. Found that with it I've got the opposite problem of using a regular pad. While I find myself executing combos much more consistently and cleanly, the joystick is proving very difficult to use. Any tips? Suggestions? Got a fight stick of your own to show off?

how the fuck small is your bedroom?
I used to play Street Fighter online with a friend, and he has a proper arcade joystick/button setup, and I was using a regular controller. He always beat me very easily, but I just dont play enough fighting games to justify owning one.

Small enough that I can't buy a frame for my bed and have to keep it on the floor so I can step over it to get to the second half of my room.

I did buy a fightstick for SFIV, and it was definitely nicer to use than a pad.
But it's been boxed away for years now, as I just don't have the patience or reflexes for fighters any more.

That, and they're best when played against another person on the same couch, and all my friends who played couch console are back in my home town.
