Excuse me Lightningline, I am just going to step outside for a moment.
    To bloody kill myself.
Anything is better than playing that mission again.

I really can't remember what this FM is like. It can't be that bad can it, surely not! I'll have a look at the screenies first, if there are any, to jog my memory.

Bah, it's for TG! I don't have DP/G installed just yet. I guess i'm saved!

No really, come on, tell me why it's so bad, i'm too curious now! Are there any screenies for this anywhere?

I am only joking of course.
I like the missions that JIS makes, though I have never finnished any of
    them.
I think JIS has a lot of talent with the editor, but because JIS is from japan and we are not, maybe that is why we find them not too easy.?
    If only we were japanese.................

    sluggs- Elevator for Thief 2

Haven't played it through myself yet, maybe I'll give it a try to see where all this difficulty comes from.

Hmmm, how could an FM for T2, that's over 100 mb, be updated, for TG, and only be 6.5 megs? I'm hugely confused!

Back when the Keep was very young I diligently scoured the whole vast internet, and I discovered JIS and a few other Japanese Thief authors, and the old Elevator Mission for Thief Gold was one of that original batch of rising sun fms. JIS later made a large campaign for Thief 2 and called it Elevator T2.

Now (the readme says Dec 25, 2005) JIS has apparantly re-released the old original Elevator Mission for Thief Gold. Perhaps he's fixed a couple bugs (I remember something about it not being possible to finish on Expert due to an underwater section without a breath potion or something like that).

Jason will have to let us know if there is any other reason for the "re-release", but for JIS to call it version 2.0 I have to assume he's fixed some things or maybe even changed or added major sections.
The Keep for Thief 1 and 2 FMs, Shadowdark for Thief 3 and Dark Mod FMs

Elevator Mission T2 is more disturbing of the two.
The mind twisted events and non-linear, but solvable puzzles, will challenge you to muster up everything you would never expect to use in some of the most unpredictable ways, for surviving through the FM.
There's no hint in many cases as what your expected to do.

It's like being presented with some intense "face slapping" design:
Welcome to the chamber of horror's MR GARRETT! Here, You will need to use your utmost abilities to survive, there is little time for thought for what you are about to face! Ready Your Bow!
    If you got one!

And it never seems to END....Or does it?

In the beginning there is metal floors...enemies and light with no moss arrows...as a matter a fact I dont think you get crap for weapons for awhile.I remember someone saying that JIS being Japanees designs his missions authough you are a Ninja...not our humble mideval Garrett. This mission is also huge....very massive for such a small file size. It wasnt terrible just very challenging...mabey to challenging. I gaurentee anyone who braves it will be buisy for hours upon hours.
I found Elevator 2 for T2 much easier. Elevator 2 is different than 1...it is not a remake and like the Kepper said he must have just redone 1 for TG.

Well Im definitely going to play all the way through it again. I seem to be all alone on this, but the original FM is one of my favorite missions ever. And expert is achiveable in Version 1.
So JIS is back? I hope so
He had uninstalled Thief Gold and when I finished his Mine Shock, Peter Smith had to help him get his Thief Gold working in XP. He got it working and played it.
Liked what I had done and gave permission for release.
But yeah, where did this come from. Did JIS himself upload to thiefmissions?

13 downloads Hope his work pays off more than that, but it just came out

Just FYI, I have decided to take on a big project for myself by translating the Japanese FMs' readables into English. It may still be a little longer before I can get started when I have more free time, but I think it'd be a fun project for myself that would help open these quirky FMs (and their authors) to a little better reception around here. Wish me luck.

No I did not see that post Looks like I'll be finishing F2 then, but Ive got my "Small stock FM resource contest" to work on first. Strange thing is, I was building my contest submission in his style. (levers that open doors far away, etc...)
Maybe I shouldnt have said that since were anonymous until contest is over

The original version is 5.8Meg the new version is 6.8Meg so therre have been some changes.

I'm stuck (as per usual for this mission).

    spoiler:
In the church part of the Haunt section. Where you hit the button to be shot up the ladder. I've opened the door behind the iron grate but I can't seem to find the switch for the grate.

I made it all the way to the haunt area of this mission and I am ready to give up!

This mission is great, but extremely frustrating.

I was hoping to announce this one, but I did not hear about its release, as Jason had it on ice for a few days and I didn't hear about it until now. Anyway, here is my belated introductory spiel.

    Elevator Mission, Version 2
    file: em.ver2.zip
    Thief Gold

This is a revision to the original Elevator Mission for Thief Gold, once reputed to be one of the hardest missions made. Others have surpassed it in difficulty, but it remains a cult classic. Elevator has lots of keys and switches to find, some of which operate doors remotely, so their effect is not obvious. It also has some challenging encouters with AI that require as much brain as brawn. Good sneaking and fighting skills are necessary.

The revised mission has ambient light set to reasonable levels, whereas V1 was totally dark in unlit areas. The ambient lighting does not affect the light gem value in most places, just Garrett's ability to see. In a few places, however, V1 is actually darker and easier to sneak through. The revised version has some new textures in a few places. One area, a hub between sections, has been totally redesigned to be more realistic. A few areas in V2, near the beginning, are slightly easier. The revised version also has less loot, in keeping with JIS' minimalist approach. Several areas in V2 are harder than V1, including the ending.
    spoiler:
I suggest that you save some weapons and health for the end.
You will know when you get there.

And for all you die-hard JIS fans, I have two more waiting in the wings, one of which needs a little work. I did not release them all at once because I would not want you taffers to suffer from JIS overload. One at a time is enough.

Vlad, I am not sure if JIS is back or if he is just cleaning house. Communication with him is difficult unless you speak Japanese (I don't). Anyway, JIS has sent me links to two revised mission and one new one. I am shepherding them through the system. I'll be contacting you about some work on the unfinished one, Vlad.

It is not completely clear to me where you are. I assume you have reached the top of the ladder in the chapel and are referring to a barred gate at the end of a long passage with a fire elemental in it. If not, post back with more information. A hint:
    spoiler:
The switch for that is a weighty issue.
    More precisely,
    spoiler:
    Apply weight to the pedestal.

Elevator for T2 is not at all the same. EMT2 is a nine mission campaign. In that set, there are a few good ones and a couple that are slightly boring, depending on your taste. Mission 2 of EMT2 was borrowed from Elevator Mission for Thief Gold, but it has many differences.

I suggest that you try this one before tackling EMT2.

That would be a worthwhile project. FYI, many of the texts in the English versions of JIS' missions are simply missing, which he did to avoid confusion. In elevator, for example, V1 had some poorly written hints that could be deciphered. In V2 they are all wiped clean. I think the books texts are not even incluced in the zip, which stated to be for English only. Send me a PM or an e-mail, and I can put you in touch with JIS, who may be willing to hook you up with the Japanese version. It is possible even that there are some objects (books) missing in the English versions.

ok, thanks for letting me know. I'll get back to you on that. You can go ahead and tell him now that I'm interested in translating for him if you want, and you can find my email in my profile if he wants to talk to me ... but it probably won't be for a little while yet, anyway.

Fortunately, most other Japanese FMs have kept their readables.

    spoiler:
The area with the pedistal is correct. Only when I operate the pedistal only the door behind the barred gate opens. How do you operate the barred gate. All of the haunts are dispatched. I need a key for the lock behind the painting in the beginning of the haunt area. I assume its behind the door which is behind the barred gate.

Ah, yes! There is a hidden switch. That caused me a lot of trouble a few years back before I found it, but now it is so ingrained in my memory, so routine, that I had forgotten what it was actually used for! So I went back and verified it.
    spoiler:
The switch that opens the metal grate is located in the small "office" above the chapel, to the right of the small table that has the candle on it.
You cannot see it unless you go out of your way.
    spoiler:
It is a blind frob in most cases.

You are correct about the key. This is a bad sign. You are starting to think like JIS.

I think I maka da boo boo

I have only the sword objective ticked and
    spoiler:
I've thrown the jumper switch behind the double doors at the beginning of the haunt section. All that happend is an alarm sounds but no gate or door opened and I'm trapped in the haunt section. Is this the last thing your supposed to do in the mission.
As it has taken 3 hours + in saved game time just to get to this stage.
