T2 FM: "The Quiet Heat" by MotleyCat 2006.05.07

It's at Thiefmissions. Go get. Play it, etc.

By the way, Mots, am I correct in assuming that the Cliff Pinkwater reference is a tribute to Children of the Future?

I was one of the COTF authors in the beginning of creating that mission. No pointless cotf threads please, those are my characters, Freetown is my town too, and this is The Quiet Heat. Enjoy!

I was cross-referencing; and how were you also an author of COTF? Was it a team project? I'm just curious.

By the way, I just started. I'm liking the foreign look of place.

    EDIT: Finished. Very nice work.

are there any rope arrows and where is the key to the actors entrance?
And by the cafe in the same area there is a female guard and noble upstairs. Is there a way up there.

I was rather enjoying this till the crashing started. Not updated yet, I downloaded this afternoon, but hope it isn't too long. I like the Mediterranean feel - I'm so darn cold at the moment - it actually warmed me up!!

    Ditto bob_doe_nz question re:
    spoiler:
    rope arrows and key

I also liked the atmosphere, nice use of teal especially
couldn't get up into any balconies or anything either... is that why I'm 500 short? or is it because of the unfrobbable loot (bottles/vase/urn)?
also: is there anything worthwhile in the church tower?

Key to Liberty Arena is on Silver Benson's belt. He is chilling at the casino building.

    spoiler:
No rope arrows, unfrobbable items at upper shelves of bars.
    ehh

Also, which temple tower do you mean? The white near the beginng, or the beige-darkblue in the outer city?

I absolutly adore the atmosphere of your FM! Thank you It's like a little holiday, you can imagine the people lying in their hammocks, waiting for the heat to pass, small sounds of cicadas in the air. Nice!

I'm just wondering why you used the ropey Thief 1 models for the guards - they look a bit out of place. It's interesting, but I'm finding that hiding in small shadows next to full sunlight to be a little unconvincing, especially with the high ambient light levels.

Thief 1 models are part of the style. It gives the mission a bit old-school feeling, and it is also a tribute to Thief 1. I don't like dedx's thief 1 models. About shadows and sunlight: It's the dark engine. Putting omnilights there would kill the atmosphere. Also, in Stowaway and Midday Escape you can meet these things too. I put work in this level, and also think that you highlighted ONLY the bad things about it.

I liked this mission, not very difficult, but I did have a couple of problems. The game crashed when I BJ'd the thief in the courtyard and the one upstairs, and then tried to drop them.

I've downloaded the mission on the 9.5., one day after the update, but had the same problem with the crashing game after I tried to drop the sleeping archer in the gambling complex. Maybe there's still a problem with some of the AI? It was no big problem, I simply let them lay around where they diceded to fall.

    Stuck

    spoiler:
I have achieved all objectives except finding a ticket to Cliff Pinkwater's upcoming show. Where is it?
    - prjames

Nevermind. Figured it out on my own.

    spoiler:
The ticket in the alcove behind the openable door at the back (or near the "public entrance") of the open-air concert arena (near where the guard with the key to the office also hangs out.
