    Strange Meetings July 29, 2006

Ok, here I am, the silly german guy who organized the Germand DromEd Contest (I think you heard of it...we had only two missions at the end...:P)

One of the missions (which one the contest...:P only in points if you ask me) is now available in English! Many thanks to Dinksmallwood and Nightwalker for the translation and to SlyFoxx for the English voiceacting!

Ok, then a part of the storyline...
Unbelievable but true: Masterthief Garrett was captured a few weeks ago and arrested. Luckily you escaped torture. Now you're in search of new equipment. After all, a lock won't pick itself. How nice that there are noble donors, like the local arms dealer. A short visit will surely be worthwhile because this guy not only has an arsenal of useful items but also a nice collection of antiques which is not bad at all. The best way to get inside is through the sewers, as the front door is too well guarded...

    And some pictures:

    More at Christine's homepage!

    Ok, then some excusing words:
    1. This mission was build in 2 or 3 weeks! Ok, I had 2 months or so, but lazy as I am most of the mission was made during the last week (and hours...:P)
Christine made a little update of the original mission, some bugfixing and styling work...Thank you!
What I want to say: Even after the update the mission is not 100% what I wanted to create. The basics are simple...too simple if you ask me, not the right depth...
    2. The idea is not as simple as it seems...I'm insane I think (the last days made me feel this more and more). So the mission is...uncommon I think, some may like it, some may hate it, but that is what I wanted to build: Something strange and new...

Hm, ok, let's end with this...
You can download the mission at www.thiefmissions.com!
    Hope you like it!

P.S.: Yeah, my English is not the best...:P It's enough to make you understand what I want (and to make me happy with my marks in school;D)

[edit]: Yeah, I even repeated two "introductions"...:P

I did some bugfixing on Ar-Zimrathon's mission and now I'm helping Kamon to finish his campaign.
But it's only Ar-Zimrathon's fault, that I opened Dromed again....

    @ Ar-Zimrathon - congratulation's to your release

Great that you fixed the bugs. Unfortunatly I wasn't able to finish the first version of the mission*, but I'll give it another try!

*this room with the robot still makes my heart race - I don't know how many times I died there.

It was (I don't know if it's still possible in the new version) only a matter of the right timing:
    spoiler:
don't rush into this room immediatly, instead wait a short (well, very short) ammount of time, the bot starts it's launch procedure, proceed forward, dropping onto the floor while it shoots. If you managed to time it right, the shot will go just far enough above you to not harm you. Now be quick and while the bot is reloading its cannon ball launcher, throw the floor lever and climb out of the room again -- and be ready for the next hazard.

    OK, I give up.

    spoiler:

I got out of the sewers and triggered the new objectives. I was walking around in the "forge" room just to check things out and I got teleported to a cell with a zombie on the other side (the room in the 3rd screenshot from your posting).

I have picked up a broken chair, a blunt knife, a plate, and a spoon. I used to spoon to open a panel in the floor where I got the "Hand of Death". I also picked up a piece of electric equipment by reaching outside the bars.

So now what? I am totally stuck here with no idea what to do. I cannot open the cell door. I have no lockpicks and neither the spoon nor the knife will work. Looked all over for switches but cannot find any. Please drop me a hint or an outright spoiler....

Thanks... that got me a little further ... still stuck though
    spoiler:

I got the oil flask by bashing the light. I figured out how to start a fire using the electrical equipment, the flask, and the broken chair. I put the dead hand into the fire and it produced the Hand Bone.

I thought for sure now that the hand bone would be a lockpick replacement so I could open the door but no such luck. I guess I am stuck again!

Still haven't found a use for the blunt knife or plate yet. Tried using the knife on the big rock in hopes that maybe it would "sharpen" the knife...anyway... need a solution.

BTW, I have also started to play another instance of the game where I just don't go into this room at first and explore the other rooms I have access to after the "thief" dissapears. I can always continue with that game but I have a feeling I'll be forced to come back here at sometime so I'd like to figure it out.

    spoiler:
You're not ready with the bones yet. Smash the hand with the rock to get a finger bone. Then find out what its purpose is.

    Maloo,

    spoiler:

There is a red key in the small pool of water in this room. Take that key and open the other cell that has the unconcious girl in it. Carry the girl back into this room and throw her into the fire. .... I know ... diabolical!

After this you can pass through the teleporter.

Well I just finished it. To be honest, I thought there would be more to it, but thank you for your efforts. Those who enjoy "puzzle" type missions might like this one.

I am a bit curious though as to why

    spoiler:

...you feel Garret is a "cruel slaughterer". Are you referring to the way we had to truly activate that 2nd teleporter by burning the unconcious girl? Was there any other way to solve the puzzle.?

Disturbing, I love it. I tragic, yet very authetic look at our friend Garrett. In the back of my mind I think that could have happened to Garrett (suicide or going insane); in fact, it probably could have happened several different times.

    Allow me give my interpretation.

    Elkston,

the mission appears to be psychological & metaphysical in nature. Garrett in fact never have left the prison...or he may have lost it in the sewers, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

About the objectives, I've always thought they reflected the thoughts of Garrett himself. His constituions have probably weakened to the point where his past has now come back to haunt him, though he is slow to realize/accept it. He probably blames himself (or holds himself partially responsible) for the vicious cycle of death that has followed him all his life. The part with the zombie and prison, perhaps it can be asserted that Garrett thought he was both a prisoner and a monster (I'm trying here, give me a break).

Though most deaths around him were not directly caused by him (the Mechanist's slaughter of the pagans, for example), he probably felt there was more he could do to prevent it, therefore his soul is tainted with guilt (the increasing present bloodstains). With there being no other way to pass through the portal without burning the girl, Garrett may have believe that whenever he tried to help people, more people ended up getting hurt because of him.

So...that said, I'm convinced most of the mission was going on in Garrett's head...or mind. I'm kind of lost.

    This isn't my game!
It lacks too much of playing information
I mean: WHY do I have to learn to [SPOILER]"hammer" a handbone with a rock till I get a fingerbone which I can use ....... [SPOILER] Duh!!!! ER] THÁT on the forum?!!!!???

    Furthermore: the
    spoiler:
key in the water, near the second teleporter, has no use, as I also can use the fingerbone .....

BUT NOW: and THIS IS IMPORTANT! I hate throwing an unconsious child in a fire, so I didn't ..... I just wanted to take her with me ..... through the teleporter .... but nothing worked, so .....: OK: I once, twice, three times then tried to put her in the fire ) ..... and the game went off to my desktop.

Do I get to take her anywhere else? I hope I do .....?????????????????????

Wow. That's deep metal dawn. I guess I never thought about interpreting this mission symbolically. I mean yes it was strange that the plot did like a 180, but I figured I was getting into some kind Constantine's Mansion sort of thing. Bizzare, yet still connected to real events and our world.
