July 21/06 - Chronicle of the Metal Age - Chapter 1 ver. 2.0

    Hi Friends!

After months of struggle with university stuff (but now I have a biologist Degree ) and job hunt (will work as a Clinical Research Associate) I finally managed to finish and upload the v2.0 of Chapter I. I skipped beta testing as I had no time for that, but I believe I removed all the annoying bugs. Hope you like it!

    Have a nice day!

    -Balazs "Sir Balu" Vagovits

PS: Gloria, I hid a dewdrop for YOU, did you find it?

I am replaying it now. The new texture placement is very evident and the mission looks much richer now.

Best wishes on your continued work for part 2 and congrats on earning your degree!

i remember that orginally there were missing textures in a few places and a lot of red brick, did the room brush issues get fixed? i'll have to check it out. and on a side note, with a science degree myself, good luck in the job hunt, i had a heck of a time finding something good paying and enjoyable.

    help! my 2.0 won't run

I have never had a problem with any fan mission before (and I've played them all), but for some reason this one won't go past the objectives screen. When I click "continue" the screen goes black and freezes there. I have to ctrl-alt-del to get out of it. Any suggestions?

Congrats on the degree and job hunt. Working pays the bills so you can build missions.

Uh, I have no idea. I've tried it on several configs and had experienced nothing similar. Sorry.

    My only complaint:
    spoiler:
If you fall behind the hedge across from the mess hall (the one you enter via the window), and if you've forgotten your rope arrow elsewhere, you can't get out. At least I couldn't.

Otherwise, an interesting and fun excursion with great narrative consistency (that is, things made sense).

Very nice work Balasz Your mission looks much better now,
Area's like the library and the church look really pretty with the new textures, objects and light beams you've included.

The only things that dissapointed me were some bad looking Thief 1 textures that were not, or couldn't be, improved (chests, some doors and the warrior skins), and some brick textures I didn't really liked in certain areas (but thats of course a matter of taste). Overall, nice update!

I also find out somthing new in the thief world: The tower near the church has a locked door and I tried to blow it open by dropping a mine before the door let it explode with a fire arrow. With no result I expected, but the door was blown open . I can't believe I never tried that before in all the years I play Thief. Of course I know this is possible with the sun burst device in Life of the Party but never expected this would work with a mine as well .

I have a question: where is the key to unlock the chest inside the house of Brother William, Engineer. Can anyone tell me where it is?

    Statistics
    Difficulty played: Expert
Time Taken: 2 hours 6 minutes 7 seconds
Loot found: 2923 out of 3473
Secrets found: 4 out of 2

I paid attention to bugs during play and I found several. Some new, as well as a few old ones that weren't fixed. I'll send them to you soon.

It was a pleasure to revisit this FM. I enjoyed it a great deal when it first came out and it was still fun this time but much prettier. :-) Thanks!

I have a major problem here. I downloaded the mission, placed it into my Darkloader map as I do with all other missions, but it seems to have disappeared Does anyone knows what's happened here?

How did you copy it ?

Please dont be offended by this as I do not know the extent of your computer knowledge and no insult intended.

A very common mistake when doing a drag-n-drop is to accidentally drop it into an adjacent folder by mistake.

Another ( but unrelated here :P ) is copying by mistake to the same directory.
Nothing like Copy of Copy of Copy of ..... couple hundred times sometimes

Hi Thelvyn, I'm nót at all offended by your answer but this is nót the case! I know it can happen, so I was extra carefully .....the second time ... and third ... and fourth time, trying to put it into my map. It just doesn't work!
I there another link I can try to download from?

BTW: I downloaded two other missions and they worked allright!

    Still stuck? Let me know!

About the textures not changed: yeah, I know there are several old, ugly textures, but I'm not that great artist to redraw all the stuff. The chests were designed by my comrade and I didn't want to exclude them, neither redraw.(He is not available to do the job, sorry.) The mercenaries with the wolf crest are the same, old design made for Thief 1. Aaand I don't know how to put and axe into the hand of an unarmed character to use it as a weapon. (The original guy is a Thief 1 model with mirrored, low quality skin, a Thief 2 model would be better, but with an axe) Any idea?

Can you open the file you downloaded ? Before copying it to your fms directory that is.
If you can open it try extracting it to a temp dir to see if the zip file is corrupted or not.

Or you could just try downloading it again.

Argh I forgot to check there this time , I've been in that secret crypt before
But do you mean the key is in there? I've read in the hammer's journal about a key, but there is none to be found in that room.

It's no big deal about the old textures. They're very notable in comparison with everything else, but I understand it's difficult to fix these.

No, sadly I'm not very technical, but you should be able to find out how to do this in the Editor's Guild forum.

Just finished playing this and I have to say it's a great mission. I had nothing but fun playing it. My one criticism would be that the storyline bridging this with the canonical mythology of the original games seems a tad forced. At least, I think it would be wiser to divorce yourself from that as you might interpret, or imagine, the city and it's characters in a manner that disengages players who've different ideas about Truart, the Hammers, etc. The story that unfolds in the mission is plenty engaging and the themes could be explored without tying yourself down to the established LGS characters, and your story would probably benefit from that divorce.

Anyway, great mission! I will play this one again! I look forward to the next installment.

    Still can't find key

Same here. No key to be found.
    spoiler:
I thought that maybe the chisel you find and can carry might be it, since Engineer William has one next to his body, but that didn't work either.
Maybe I still need to find another area,
    spoiler:
I think I haven't used the Hammerite key yet.
Any hints where that's used? All I've got to do now is finish the "Exit by Underground Tunnel" objective. Thanks in advance for any hints!! Cheers, Wink

If you mean the key to the chest in the Engineer's house, have you found your way into the secret room in the mines? If you've been in there, you won't just find the key. First you have to release the spirit of the dead body there by shooting him with holy water. Then the key will appear. The clue for this is in the book found nearby.
