    bottle room key

any clues as to where the key to the bottles room is?

  3. #3
A little bug: going around the landing in the hallway, on the first floor, there seem to be some invisible walls near the corners (close to the double doors that go outside). The dining room's open fireplace is also just that, very open. Look carefully and you can see outside. :P

But otherwise not bad so far. Anyone know where the switch for the secret door in the bottles room is?

Edit: Blow, have a good look around the dining room.

Great, another new mission that appears to have not been tested. Will people never learn? Authors - please read the Best Mission Release Practices thread at TEG!

As for the huge WAV file, there are several problems with it - it's in an uncompressed format, and it also isn't credited in the Readme. Unless the author is a very talented ambient music artist and it's original, then he needs to give credit to the source. I will email the author and ask if he minds if I upload an update of this mission to Jason; with the WAV properly compressed, the mission ZIP is just 8.5MB. I'll also offer to add a sound credit to the Readme if he can tell me who the artist is.

    Update: Email sent.

What is the bottles room? Not asking for it's location, just what that means. I THOUGHT
    spoiler:
I had done all 5 switches
but still have two locked doors to open.

Missing two of the five switches. I know I've done these: reading/living room, entrance hall, the loft, but I'm not sure which rooms are the "gear" room, and the larder.

I still have one locked door on the first floor - the one next to the double doors. Where is the key for this?

Couldn´t find a key for the loft, therefore broke the window and jumped through .

In the entrance hall, i found a invisible button behind a banner next to the bottles room, at least there is a clicking sound, but cannot find the switch. Can someone give me a clue, please?

Edit: Found it. Posting here almost everytime helps finding things in the next minute

Okay so it's not the loft I did, it's the larder. So which one is the gear room?

As for the loft - I cannot for the life of me jump through that window. There's a smaller "frame" inside it that probably shouldn't be there, and I wonder if that's stopping me?

Edit: If the gear room is the crate-filled room with three shelves, there's no switch in there.

@ chis: From outside, i used a crate. The frame was no problem.

If you wait long enough, you might get to download a file that's 75% smaller.

I'm wondering whether I should pull this from thiefmissions pending a more tested version.

It's a bad idea to remove it from the database. This is the first lesson I learned after publishing an untested mission, and it was a good lesson.

Chris, I could not jump through that "frame" either. However, just found a music room key to open the door to that room.
    spoiler:
Had to jump on a bed to find it.

Still wondering what is meant by the bottle room.

    Gear room:
    spoiler:
There's a small room with a chest and various equipment in the bedroom furthest from the stairs, that's the gear room. Switch is up high above door.

    To get to the loft:
    spoiler:
There's switch under a desk in that same bedrom, which open's a painting allowing you to get the music room key.

Now could anyone please tell me where the entrance hall switch is? I simply can't find it.

i´ll see if i make another mission, because working with Dromed is so
    dull and frustrating. :-(

Well you really have to have a passion for designing the mission. Dromed has it's quirks, but for the most part it runs pretty good and there is almost always a way to make things happen.

    I knew it wasn't tested,
    spoiler:
the physical dimensions of the railing, the broken window set to the default window size, etc.

I usually don't complain about an author's first release, but with beta testing those little bugs would have been cleared up. I'm not saying I am not enjoying the FM, even though I have only been in it for two minutes, but mayby with the compressed audio file the author could fix the bugs and rerelease the FM after some beta testing.

Edit: I made an mp3 format down to 1.5MB with no noticeable loss in quality.

I agree with BT. The author's gotta learn.

    FM Authors:
I don't care how many times you've run through your mission yourself. You've got to have a few other people test it for you. I've tested many a mission by some very fine Dromeders and have NEVER seen one that was without at least a few troublesome bits. Take the extra time, it's always worth it!

Having said that, congrats on your first release. We really want you to make a great mission and many more after that!
