Thread: Thief 2 Fan Mission - A Pirate's Downfall - 2006-10-02

    I'm also having trouble running this FM in NewDark. Whenever I open the door leading to a brightly-lit room on the ground floor next to the library, the game crashes. There were also some stutters previously that I couldn't find the source of.

    However, unlike Wronschien, I don't have a clue which part of the darkinst.cfg I should be editing to disable the EP. Note that I'm still running 1.19 of NewDark, haven't tried it with the latest version.

    So far this is the only FM I've found that doesn't work properly under NewDark.

    I'm having exactly the same problem at the same place.

    Inside that room, there's a book lying on the ground. One of the textures of that book is causing New Dark to crash because it's sized by 129x128 rather than 128x128. Here's the correctly resized texture. Add it to the FM's zip file and overwrite the old file. Make sure the gif is put into the obj/txt16 folder.

    Alternatively, if you install the base Thief 2 game with Darkloader, thus removing the files temporarily loaded with the FM, then pop the correct .gif into your Thief 2 obj/txt16 folder, I think it will work as well the next time you load the mission. I don't think it will overwrite the correct gif image you just put there, but I'm not certain. But it worked for me when I just tried it. And you don't need to go mucking about with the EP.

    Thanks Xorak. I did a right click on your link, saved it into my Thief 2 obj/txt16 folder overwriting the existing file with the same name, loaded a saved game and could get into the problem room and read the book. The FM worked fine after that.

    The obviously right thing to do is to contact nicked about this, get his permission, and then send me a fixed and tested version of the mission. I don't think any author would mind someone fixing big problems with their missions but the info file does prohibit distribution of modified versions, so....

    It's absolutely fine by me. I don't have time to update and test this mission myself at the moment as I'm currently squeezing in Sturmdrang Peak betas between real life commitments, but if it's just a file that needs changing, and someone can verify that that fixes it, be my guest.

    Sorry, I wasn't trying to do anything malicious. I just figured instead of telling someone that the file needed to be resized and leaving it at that, I went the next step and resized it myself, potentially eliminating any additional frustration.

    I reported the problem the second time, and I followed the instructions and tested it out using the fix. It works perfectly. Now there are no crashes and no stutters like I previously noticed.

    For what it's worth, I consider this fix tested and approved. Xorak deserves praise for finding and squashing this bug.

    Unna, the queen of using the least amount of possible words.

    The above dml prevents players mantling over the o/s mansion ground walls, fixes the switch to open the crypt door (you used to have to frob the switch twice confusing players to say the least), fixes the final 2 objectives on expert (you used to have to back track after dropping Lord Smith before returning to the end room for the last objective to complete), the dml also fixes a number of misplaced or incorrect sized objects.
