There is indeed a lot of new stuff, and all of it looks excellent*. I'm really looking forward to this mod.
*well, everything except bob the scientist, but that one's not from this update
Just in case people haven't noticed, the black mesa teams website is finally back up with a lot of new changes. All I can say is, new bullsquid![]()

Even if the voices aren’t real, they still have some good ideas.

Damnit, does it have to do a stupid flash effect every time I view a screenshot?!?!
But yeah, I'm really looking forward to this mod. Can't wait!
Excellent screenshots, fan-fucking-tastic music (topside gives off an almost SS2 vibe and the main theme is excellent, really good quality), I can't wait. It'll be like experiencing it as a new game all over again.

Yes I'm absolutely impressed. While the overall quality is very high anyway, it's obvious that some mappers of the team are better than others : some of these screens (Inbound, Blast Pit, Residue processing...) ooze awesomeness. The enemy models are also really well done : the gargantua, the new zombie... wow I just can't wait
Oh, and to ChickenMcOwnage : if you open them in new tabs, there is no flash viewer. Website is very nicely done.
EDIT : oh and as scots said, the music is great. It may even be better than the un-surprising, generic tracks from the original game.

It looks great and meh at the same time.
I did not find them bad per se, but I think that parts of the soundtrack were stock music from cheap soundbank CDs (I especially recall hearing two of them in stupid TV movies). While they were great during the action, they were not quite really impressive as standalone songs.
I refuse to acknowledge mods untill they are finished.
It's kinda hard with some though. Like this one.
I have been keeping my eyes on this one for a while, if they pull it off to release the whole original HalfLife updated; woah.
Looks beeeeeeautiful by the way.![]()
Looks fantastic. Hope they finish the mod.
Wish those hackers attempting to eliminate the mod from existance would just fuck off honestly. Most likely one or so losers who`ve never got a speck of attention from a woman in their lives and rightly so.
If anythings a lesson from these things though, its to always keep backups of everything on a cd/dvd.
I've learned the backup lesson the hard way. I surely hope the BMS guys learn it earlier.![]()
I've been keeping track of this mod since its inception and I'm amazed at the level of high quality work they're producing on it. This will be the mod to own them all, I'm sure...
Ever since I learned of a team remaking Half-Life I refused to play HL or its bastard son HL:Source. It's been years since I last played HL so needless to say I'll be in some kind of shock (positively) when this comes out.
Upon drooling over the screenies, I noticed I had a hard time comparing the new reworked levels with the originals. I don't recognize them, but like I said it's been years battling through BM. Of course their design will come back once I play through them.
I don't even care if they charge full price for this mod. With the work invested in it, it's the least I can do.
It'll be like a totally new game, yet familiar at the same time... It'll be like 1998 all over again!!!
I think this is a new interpretation of HL, so while the levels will have the same theme and be in the same locations they'll be rebuilt with different layout and stuff. This might explain why you don't recognise the locations.
I think.

Not so much, Moi. At least I remember reading a Q&A or FAQ somewhere that asked how faithful they were going to be and their answer was along the lines of "90% faithful" with gameplay additions, innovations and embellishments.
Like DarkElf, I too avoided replaying HL or HL:S when I found out about Black Mesa. It'll have been three or four years since I even touched the game now.
Everything about the mod is really great, except for the piano in the music tracks (main theme especially) they're good, but don't fit in all that great. Half-Life isn't an uplifting drama about the life and hardships of a misfortunate family, it's a shooter, not saying it's an utterly completely brainless shooter (maybe 90%, not really deserving of 'thinking man's shooter') but still, gimme a break.
The piano track might work though as it may be used for the opening credits/tram ride - in which case, it's fine. In either case, it's still very well done.
I agree with TF. Piano music to connote TOUCHING MOMENT is a technique that has been rubbed into the ground. It's so cheesy and generic that I can't take it seriously at all. The piano is such a wonderful instrument but it's usage is almost entirely derivative in soundtrack music.
See: Casino Royale.
Remember the music in "We've got hostiles" chapter as you go up the elevator in HL1? That music would be great with remade quality.
Not to derail this entire thread, but I think that's tangental bullshit. You may be reading "touching moment" into that but I don't - I think your overexposure to movie soundtracks that plumb the depth of cliche is perhaps clouding your judgement here. I listen to that and the piano combined with the ambient background just paints a very solitary picture - if this is used in tandem with the tram intro sequence I can see it being a very desolate and even mildly haunting introduction to the game.
Let's not go overboard here just because the music is not what it's supposed to be. Fact is we don't know what music will go where, so stop judging prematurely already. Oh and just so you know I played HL originally without any music, so I am totally unable to compare. I couldn't care less if they sound out of place. I'm just going on good faith that the devs will do the best they CAN do.
I'm sure that when you're actually playing the game (and letting your jaw drop to the floor) and that music kicks in, it'll be awesomness squared! Who cares if it doesn't seem to fit right now? We'll have to wait to judge upon release, won't we?
Too many tv shows and movies use that style of piano in melodramatic scenes - not my fault it's become a cliche. The progressions here are no different than the average drama soundtrack - it's not impossible to use piano in this style and be successful, but I don't think this mod team has, regardless of where the music will be placed. I have no "overexposure" to movie soundtracks - that'd be like saying I'm overexposed for thinking of horror when I hear high strings. It's a fact that slow minor piano chords accompany melodrama. As far as I'm concerned, they should never be used, except for parody.

The website is a little misleading as each weapon & model has a different set of screenshots, some ingame. Don't forget to check them.
