Merry Christmas to all you taffers! And a huge thanks to Gummie for giving me a nearly complete mission! You can see screenshots in the Preview Thread.
The Mask of Agamemnon
Setting
A long lost underground temple and cave system, just after the events of Tomb Raider I.
Story
Lara discovers a fragment of an ancient Greek manuscript which suggests that there is an extension to the area known as St. Francis’ Folly, inaccessible from the area she had previously visited and difficult to get into, but home to an artifact known as the Mask of Agamemnon. Mythical accounts claim that Agamemnon wore the mask during the Trojan wars, and its powers are what prevented him from being slain by an arrow. Whether it has any real powers or not, it would surely be an incredible addition to her collection, so she endeavors to find it. And some extra baubles and trinkets along the way would also be nice.
Difficulty Levels
Easy: Fewer enemies, more cash to spend and more equipment
Normal: Average numbers of enemies, less cash and less equipment
Hard: More enemies, and even less cash and equipment
Total Loot: 4945 Secrets: 5
All areas, secrets and loot are accessible/available on all difficulty levels.
Tips (no real spoilers)
There is little about this mission which is similar to most other Thief missions you have played.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Lara Croft has many talents, but stealth is not one of them. While you can still use shadows to your advantage much as Garrett would, you lack the ability to judge how well hidden you are. Thus, there is no light gem.
- Due to lack of time and difficulty of implementation, there are no guns as in the original Tomb Raider games. You have traditional Thief weaponry, plus one new grenade at your disposal. Maybe if I do another TR-styled mission it will feature more modern firepower…
- Tomb Raider features frequent camera cutscenes where you get a ‘preview’ of the area you’ve just entered, or get to see the effects of frobbing a lever or button when they control something that’s not nearby. The style of those brief cutscenes is replicated as faithfully as possible in this mission. Note: When you see bluish lights during a cutscene, they serve as a hint, so heed them.
- Tomb Raider features a great deal of acrobatic running, jumping and mantling. Since many Thief players find this style of play overly difficult or tedious, there is some but hopefully not too much of this style of play required in this mission. When in doubt, try a running-jump-mantle by running and then pressing and holding Jump down until you mantle up.
In case you missed it in the Preview, it's based on a real artifact.

Downloading now, can we expect large boobs?
Thank you for the Christmas Present Yandros!!!
A nearly complete mission ?? I dont want it unless it is complete. Please explain.
Looks really fun and a seems to be a good change of pace! Thanks for this great Christmas release!![]()
WOOOOHOOOOOO![]()
Yes, it's complete and a lot of fun to play! You'll all enjoy it, I think. I certainly have!![]()
OK...Thankyou.
I need a hint please. After I picked up the mask a room opened. I don't know what to do in there unless it was a trap.
I also need help finding my way into the pool room. I see a gate underwater.![]()
john 9818a That room is where the mission ends. I presume you still don't have one of the other objectives completed yet.
Question 2 Did you read the message on the wall at the beginning of the hallway with the spike pits? Go back and check the ceiling above the center section of that hallway.
Well I finished it and it was great. The only question I have is why was it necessary to push thespoiler:Also how do you open the locked chest in theblock over each pressure plate to open the gate to the mask. I mean it seemed like alot of work for no reason. I mean no puzzle at all just push it over each one.spoiler:Thanks for a lot of fun and can not wait for the sequel.secret area ?

Great atmosphere and visuals! But hint please, stuck near tall central pillar.spoiler:Can't find any other route.Doused fire elemental. Frobbed small round wall button stone. Saw preview? but forgot it! Resaved later so can't see it again. See another balcony and ladder above pool but can't reach.
Hey Stingm !
Pushing the blockspoiler:around lit the torches. Once the torches are lit, then the gate blocking the mask opens.
The chest is easyspoiler:just whack it a few times.![]()
Fidcal, I'm not sure where you are
spoiler:The pool with tha balcony ? Are you referring to the long drop into the pool ? You can eventually get back there if you want to. It will take a while, though.
Are you talking about the room with the tall center pillar ?
spoiler:Go up both flights of stairs. There should be a medallion in a square on the wall in front of you. Push that medallion.
Moghedian: Yes, that's what I frobbed. That's the problem. Now what? I should not have saved after that but I guess I just assumed I would find an opening or something after. I may restart the mission and get back to it and try again.
spoiler:I had the same problem with the event not triggering correctly. What is supposed to happen is you push the medallion and then go back downstairs into the side room with the sarcophagus and a tile moves out of the way to reveal another medallion you can push. It worked on my second playthrough anyways.
Fidcal and Gish:
spoiler:The door covering the button downstairs closes again after a little while. If you don't make it down there in time, just frob the button upstairs again. You won't get the brief cutscene showing the panel sliding open again after the first time, however - I didn't want to be annoying that way.
First of all, Thank You Yandros for creating such a good mission, and giving me a great xmas pressie. A great mission overall, with a refreshing change to the thief missions.
However, some minor quibbles/improvements:
Make the breath bar a blue decreasing bar (as in the original tomb raider game)
Menu screens blue a bit hard to read tbh (or im blind)
There are parts of the game (pillar jumping mainly) that will put people off full stop. But others will love.
I didnt quite understand why TR7 pictures, yet TR1 music / sounds... Maybe its just me
A wee bit too short... but im sure they'll expand, with biggger and better puzzles and more badguys and more cool stuff.
spoiler:
spoiler:and no big boulder to run away from!![]()
Keep up the good work!!![]()
Just returned from the annual christmas-diner with the family and found this as a very welcome gift.
Thank you, Yandros, for this gem.
And merry greetings to you and all the other taffers here. Thank you for everything. I love it. [tm]![]()
Got it now. I restarted from the beginning and saved just before so I could see the preview again. That one is tough unless you recognize it immediately else have saved just before. I'll make multiple game saves from now on. But the next bit... phew! Didn't even look possible at first but I nearly did it. I saved half way in the middle but suspect that was a mistake from a standing start. But this time I do have an earlier save. I'll make some more attempts tomorrow or after. I find I miss the light gem for lining up centre somehow and was skewing off to one side. Great music ambience and haze. I can smell the ancient dust.
I didn't think of that; it should be possible. I'll give it a go if I do an update, or in the next TR mission at any rate.
They were darker in the first Beta, but I lightened them as some testers saw them as pitch black!
Because the TR7 piccies are so much more lovely, that's all. And the Map pic is from TR5.
Gummie's original mission was small, and I didn't have time to expand on it very much. I basically added the pit trap hallway, the mask room and the exit room. Future TR missions will be larger most likely.
Argh I'm useless at these sorts of puzzle-heavy missions.
Right in the first room, I realise that I have to pull the lever that's high up on the plateau... but I've no idea how to get there.
Perhaps I should just quit now?(I wasn't too bad at Tomb Raider, um, 10 years ago
)
No no, keep going. It's one of those classic TR moments where you see something you know you need to get to, but don't end up getting there until much later in the mission.
And this mission really isn't puzzle-heavy. As StingM pointed out, the main puzzle is kind of lame. Sorry about that, but it's all I could come up with on limited time. I promise there are some much better and more intricate puzzles in Realm of the Bone King for those who choose to dig deeply into the mission (they're all optional).
