Anyone have trouble starting this one? I see disappearing doors and cant seem to find where I need to go. Unless I need to go to the left of the starting balcony which is impossible for me. 10 restarts and counting....
I am sure that it is a nice contest entry but just help me get my old bones started. I used to be able to mantle like that in me younger years but now this old Garrett is just that...old

Me too, I dont seem to be doing very good today. I need help here to. I can't seem to get out of the area that has all the shacks and the church with the graveyard behind it. I managed to get further into the graveyard place but still dont see any way out except back to the church. I have also tried jumping to mantle up on a wall from the shack rooftops but to no avail. I would be greatfull for any help. Thanks.

I am working on deleating my other post

    To the guy above
    spoiler:
climb the cloths line over the waterway.

OK..I found it right after my post which usually do....thanks

This mission has an insanely frustrating number of invisible barriers in it.
I lost track of how many times I fell to my death because of it.

When I see a ledge, I expect to be able to jump on it, and will risk my life to do so, because I don't expect it to be blocked by invisible solids.
This mission pushes the word 'linear' to whole new levels.

Lightningline: you have to climb up the ladder behind the broken door.

I was able to get to the first room of the guy's hideout, but it seemed like a dead end after that. Also, down the road the hideout is on, it seems the author forgot to put roombrushes.

Just started this mission. From the readme: " And a special thanks to Saturnine for //not// entering the contest, thus giving everyone else a fair chance."

    lol!

I'm incredibly stuck in the kidnapper's hideout. I have no idea where to go next. After exploring everywhere, I finally found two sets of keys behind a metal door after I climbed up a ladder. One key opened the door and returned me to near the start, while I have no idea where to use the other. Can someone hit me over the head with a spoiler?

Look around more in the room you found the girl in

By the way is the end of the game
    spoiler:
after you get rushed by the watch when you have the girl?

The next screen says continue and I thought there would be more but there wasn't. It just seemed judging by the huge file size that there would be more. I have played bigger 3mb missions. Nice mission but come on. And the "Misfits" song was a nice touch. Metallica re did that song on Garage Days too.

TNT: backtrack from the bottom of the ladder and go down the other corridor. You'll need the keys down there.

Antialias: the combination is in the room with the girl. If you haven't found her yet, you need to open the door near the combination lock with the key. On Expert at least, I had to flash bomb and knock out the abductor to get the key.

just finished this one. Very atmospheric, and good fun, although some of the traps were a bit frustrating! Some very nice technical effects, like the spiders scuttling down the walls! However I didn't feel that horrified when playing it... maybe I'm just too desensitized! I also didn't quite get the need for black & white. Sure it's pretty, but it didn't seem to add much to the mission.

Overall, a very fun little mission with a few niggles!

I like B&W missions, makes them atmospheric.

Not quite sure what to make of this one, as horror missions go. I don't find loads of deadly traps horrifying, or loads of body parts strewn about the place. (They just lie there, doing nothing exciting!)

It was a good attempt. Not a patch on "Torn Apart" though.

PS. How did everyone know that Saturnine was supposed to be taking part? I thought that was a secret? OK, who spilt the beans?

He did, he said it himself over in TEG . . .

If it was a secret, wouldn't he have saved himself some embarassment if he hadn't mentioned it at all?

Interesting mission, overall I enjoyed it. I think some creepy/moody music really would have been a good accompaniment to the B&W setting. Maybe that's just me.

The traps didn't bother me but I didn't like having to lure the killer out of his room just to get his key. Took me 10-15 minutes 1) lure him out, 2) whack him a few times, 3) repeat, very annoying.

There are several spots where you can get into areas you aren't supposed to. A beta test would have solved this, hard to believe people still skip this step. Especially when it's so easy to get help from taffers in the forums

No one ever answered me. Is the part
    spoiler:
after you save the girl and get rushed by guards really the end?
The mission just seemed so short for it's size. Sooo??? There is only one mission file in the zip so I would assume so but???

    WARNING MAJOR SPOILER...maybe ??

That's the end as far as I know.
    There's only one mission file.

This mission has 37MB of speech files for that one NPC.

Suddenly I'm glad I don't have dial-up anymore . . . that's just insane! Even I can compress sound files better than that!

Agreed, especially since I had to pay 1c/minute back when I had dialup...

Looks like they just copied the whole voice set for one of the guards from TDS. That really strikes me as just plain unnecessary, bordering on irresponsible.

(for some reason I originally assumed the mission size was due to the briefing).

Not only unnecessary, but many are wasted, even if the author carefully wrote a new schema file, as many of the T3 voice parts don't have corresponding triggers in T2; they also have more lines per trigger than T2 in general, and you really only need 2 or 3 in some cases instead of 4 or 6.

I speak on this from experience, having written T2 schemas for T3 Hammer voice parts for the HMDK - I probably used less than half the available lines. In his/her defense, though, sorting them out and copying just the right ones out of T3 was a pain in the ass. I did it once and then wrote batch files to do it for the other two voices.

It's a shame really, this is a very atmospheric mission from what I've seen of it (it should be obvious that I like B&W missions ), but suffers as BR said from an absence of testing - I understand the pressure of the deadline, but you have to plan the testing into your schedule. I had two alphas and three betas on What Lies Below, and I'm sure it would have really sucked if I hadn't bothered doing that.
