Simple Tree Creator - Treemendous low-poly tree maker!

Found a great little app for making low-poly trees... Simple Tree Creator

It's meant for Blitz Basic games, so it's output is .b3d but I've discovered a program that can convert .b3d files to .an8 (From Anim8or you can convert to .3ds and .obj)

Here's a screenie of the program....

    More info and download link

xtoan8 Converts .x/.b3d/.3ds to .an8 format! (Place in same folder as your model)

Woot! I assume you can get Thief-compatible textures from it as well? I see a big tree pack coming our way sometime soon! What ya say, Sluggs, you gonna do it?

Why not Yandros? (We could also pool all our trees together and make a huge pack!)

    Here's one I made earlier...

Apparently you have to provide your own textures:

BTW, if this program outputs intersecting planes, the rendering quality/speed will probably be really bad.

    Treemendous!

The trees are pretty small, (like bushes), in Dromed, so they need enlarging at least 3 times before exporting them from Anim8or.

That last shot looks a lot like part of Bafford's Last Stand that was removed due to complications.

    Delicious dendritic deciduosity deluge!!

So nice. Have you named them yet? (Not Fred, Jorge, or Constance, but fir, oak, or leatherleaf? )

If you've downloaded that latest .zip file, (with the 5 trees in it), just extract it to your Thief2 folder, as it's already setup correctly.

The .bin files go in Thief2/Obj and the .gif's go in Thief2/Obj/Txt16

The easiest way to put them in-game, is to create a tree, then change it's model name to one of the following...

    slgtre1
    slgtre2
    slgtre3
    slgtre4
    slgtre5

    Example:

    Add: Shape/Model Name = slgtre1

That depends on which optimization you use when converting to BIN. With the default setting it should split most (if not all) of the intersecting planes.

Oh, and some TGA textures would look nicer.

xtoan8or (For converting the .b3d files to .an8) Place the .exe in the same directory as your trees.

(From Anim8or you can convert to .3ds and .obj)
Only thing Sluggs didn't do already was give the link to Anim8or: http://www.anim8or.com/

And of course you'll also need the 3ds->bin util from NV's site.

    @Phantom0914

What Sluggs ment is that this is one way to get them in to DromEd and that way in the mission/in-game

Oppen DromEd and create a tree
Select the tree you just createde
clik on the properti button, a new window will pop up
    clik the Add button
    clik the Shape option
clik the Model Name option then type OVER what everīs in the box with slgtre1
    clik Done.
You might have to move the object to get to "see" the new tree.

    EDIT: BTW Nice program Sluggs

Excuse me, is it possible to make this quality of tree for "bush trees", you know, the ones you see in Lady Rumford's garden, in Running Interference, or in Undercover in T1 ?

Cuz for the moment, the actual version of these trees looks really crap facing this new version of the standard tree...

Sounds like you're jumping into the deep end.

Not only do you have to place the materials on the trees in Anim8or, but you need to detach some faces, (the tree from the leaves, well you don't have to, but it makes it easier to texture), and flip the normals, resize the trees, center them, then export them. After that, you need to edit the .e file, etc. You can't expect to learn how to do all that in five minutes. You'd be better off waiting a little longer until I've made a tree pack. I have 8 trees all ready and resized, but I'm doing a few more, about 15 of them.

I'm thinking a nice....shrubbery will do very nice.

How about an elven mallorn tree from Rivendell, complete with rope suspension bridges and dwellings pre-built for apebeasts? It's not too much to ask, eh?

Not palms, no. There's actually a palm tree in the newly-leaked content pack. I'll send you the files later via email or link in PM. (No point in downloading a 100mb .zip file for one little object!)

Does anyone have a copy of this Simple Tree Creator? I lost my copy and my backup drive failed. Can someone please upload somewhere? All of the original links to download STC are bad now.

Hey man, try this link: https://web.archive.org/web/20111212...eator_2007.zip

I used the Internet Wayback Machine to find an older version of the link where the file was still available. Sometimes that works, it appears it works on this one too!
