theImmortalThief presents: Bane I – Keep of Deceit 19/08/2007

The events of the story take place during Thief II – the Metal Age. Truart has been elected as the City's new Sherriff. Karres is the High priest of the Mechanist Order. But while the Mechanists and the Sherriff are involved in their sinister plots, the Keepers are occupied with a new threat, a threat with roots in an ancient evil, hundreds of years old…

    theImmortalThief presents:
Bane I – Keep of Deceit
Part 1 of the Elemental Banes series

Two nights ago, I received a letter from Keeper Troy, a friend of mine from my training days as a Keeper acolyte. He had written of some alarming incidents in Daleville's Keeper Compound where he serves. He sounded almost desperate. As much as I hate to get involved in the matters of the Keepers, I decided to look into it for the sake of an old favor I owe him.
He set a meeting place at the Daleville docks but once I got there, I found that the City Watch had gotten there first. I fear the worst for Troy. Tonight I must find out what happened to him. If there is to be any hope of me finding out what's going on, I must find him. I somehow feel like this is about to become a lot more complicated. I smell trouble. A lot of it.
The mission can be downloaded from these links: (10.7 MB)

Part 1 is a heavily modified version of my previous mission, A Keeper's Betrayal. Those of you have played "A Keeper's Betrayal", will find many changes in this mission, some being quite major, with many new areas, new secrets, modified story and ending, new objectives.
Bane II – Cult of the Damned is in beta right now and will hopefully be released pretty soon.

Very special thanks to: (in no special order)
    Phil Dispenza
    The Phantom
    Avallon
    Silent_Warrior
    Dafydd
    bikerdude
    Tiper (my Brother!)
For patiently testing this mission and who without their help this mission would contain many bugs and problems.

Also special thanks goes to Dafydd for his efforts and ideas for making this mission ghostable and much better in the process.

I also thank everybody at the TTLG Editor's guild that helped me by answering my questions.
And also I need to thank Sliptip, for allowing me to use some of his beautiful textures.

I hope you all enjoy playing this mission as much as I enjoyed making it.

    Just Finished the mission.

Very good work! I liked it from the beginning to the end. You placed the hints very good, you always know where to search next.

(And before you people think "Wow, he is playing FMs SO early in the morning/night", it is 11:21 AM right now for me. )

Thanks for the mission! I like this mission, (I think you've done a great job on it), but unfortunately, it's not without it's bugs!

Still, they haven't spoiled my fun with this.

Thanks Elusive One, I added the link to the first post. I've contacted Komag and BR. Hopefully I'll have a couple of new links up too.

Sluggs: Sigh... As much as one tests a mission, there always seems to be one last bug the escapes notice. Could you please PM me the bugs you found.

New mission! I just begin to play, nice and big FM so far. Thank you
There are quite many narrow passages where you can meet a guard face to face.

I'm playing on Expert. The key to the scrolls store is to be found in a room in the sewers. I think I got into the sewers down a passage beside the mechanist cathedral, I certainly didn't have the sewer key at that point, I acquired it later, in the sewers themselves I think.

I also have Malvyne's Key and Bouran's. I have completed all objectives except two: taking the sea bane and ensuring Bouran cannot use it. Got all 4 secrets but have no idea what to do next.

    flying_hope:

Sewer key can be found in the water at the docks beside a large stone

    Marbrien:
    spoiler:
In the basement underneath the library after the cages there's a storage room. Look for a hidden lever which opens the way forward. Ohh and remember the breath potions found in the same room!

I remember your Keeper's Betrayal FM, IT; I also remember that I loved it! The changes that have been made are great; i.e. textures, architecture, and more extensive layout. I am having one problem, though; in the original version the dockmaster's safe wasn't enclosed by bars (which I can't find a way to open). I've got the key to the safe, now how do I get the bars to go up? Thanks!

Dia, glad you've liked it so far.

    As for the bars:
    spoiler:
There is another building in the dockyard. It's an engine room. In it you'll find a way to lift the bars and get to the safe.

Ermana I would like to first of all thank you for your link, it worked fine for me and was able to use my old copy of Accelerator Plus to hurry it up a bit My main machine is still in my friend's shop so unable to use my DSL line...took approx. 1/2 hr. not too bad considering.

Secondly, ImmortalT. Happy belated Birthday first then to say that for some reason I can't remember playing the first ver. although I've had it for quite awhile and finally have been playing over the last couple of days. I've been playing Hard mode as I'm not capable enough nor patient enough to ghost, etc. This mode is quite enough for me and hope you haven't made this newer ver. harder yet ??? There's always Expert for those who think some things were too easy as such. If you play Expert and have to ask too many questions of how to and where is...then I consider those kinds of questions as to making things too hard...I think you understand my thoughts in this regard. Some folks are more clever than the majority and need to bare in mind the masses and not the few who say they want more difficulty, etc.

Thank you very much however for wanting to take the time and effort to update this one and will get your second part in time for a try as well. I'm in the last stages of the current one and I guess the Bane is somewhere near Bouran? Have had to do some reading of old posts for some of the locations (Skull, Weapons roof to get at arrows...bashed way into Jewelers even though I figured that one out much later but wasn't sure even then at first due to boards not highlighting for me to actually know if it could be done...and would have been OK for no alerts as I had taken care of others around, but door on Inn disappeared so guests heard and came running out looking for help...so just had to wait a bit for things to quiet down again). Having to travel back and forth as much also makes it more difficult to ghost as some places you really couldn't anyway just to get certain items, Church, Compound as just a couple of examples...so again IMHO, there was quite enough challenge provided (although I may not do final stage since I don't care to duel with bosses anyway). If I can get Bane without risk of facing him first, then I will have completed all others and that will be fine with me.

    spoiler:
When I got his key I saw directly underneath a green pool of water...do I need to go there and swim somewhere to get something? Is this the area below of the so-called platform around it (I could hear someone moving down there from time to time but couldn't see or someone going in and out from somewhere to go inside that area?), I have found sound comes through walls quite a bit from other locations...i.e. I could hear apeman and guard downstairs from upstairs after Library in hallway on way toward kitchen. So I'd like to know what do I find after going through secret panel in stock room and downstairs to next lower level? Please don't try to email as it goes to my DSL addie, just in case. Thank you.

Edit: correction/misc. in text above. Additionally are there other rooms between first and second key to find book? Please anyone who can help is welcome to reply..I'm playing V.2. Thanks

Fire Eater! If you haven't finished yet please stop right there and play "Keep of Deceit" instead!!! I've made many changes and added a few sections and changed the ending.
    spoiler:

Unlike "A Keeper's Betrayal", "Keep of Deceit" CAN be finished without killing anybody, Even in the ending!!!

    Has anybody managed THAT yet?

Thanks Brother Renault for the link.

    Thank you ImmortalT.

    spoiler:
I don't really like to kill anyone...I'm a BJ happy Garrett
(or whoever)... OK...I'll do it your way...will delete old game and try to figure out new version. Talk about modding...from an approx. 3plus meg to over 10...oh my goodness!!!

I did add a small bit to my previous post before I saw your reply...so I guess it doesn't matter now (
    spoiler:
except I still would have liked to know where Bane was actually located?
