Can you send me your DarkInst.cfg?

Also, try doing a manual install; does that fix it?

I got the same thing, after I did the install, I got exactly what you got, a big crash, no load..

    here is the fix, correction.

After it installs, open up the Darkinst.cfg file, I opened it with notepad. The line, which is my 4th line down read this

    resname_base .\EP+.\program

The Program at the end makes it crash.

Just delete the program and use this instead,

    resname_base .\EP+.\Res

That is the fix, or correction, you dont need to un-install thief 2, just make sure this reads as RES and not PROGRAM.

It worked for me without having to un-install anything.

All right, this is getting to the point of my being incompetent now.
When I 'fixed' installer for Thief 1 / Gold, it looks like I fixed an old version, which had a serious bug which I had fixed. The installer will not happily break any Thief installed to a long filename path!

The properly fixed installer is here. If you installed with this version and it makes Thief crash, restore your darkinst.cfg.epbak and run this new installer instead.

I'm updating the archives again now, for anyone who downloads it later.

Thus is the mess you get when you try to give people a New Year's gift!

They shouldn't have, and if they did, not by much. I made sure of it.
I can't vouch for the loot pouch, though - that was Eshaktaar's work.

It works fine in TMA, but seems to have busted both TDP and TGOLD. How do I unistall it?

Step by step if you will please.

Put EP.crf and InstallEP.bat into your main game directory (eg c:\thief2) and run then double-click InstallEP.bat. Simple as that.

The patch places its files in obj.crf in the root of the Thief2 folder. If you have an \obj\ folder of your own in there, that .crf is never read, so the model is never found.
This is not the fault of the EP, since it does not create an \obj\ folder. It happens because you are using your own custom content.
On my install, I fixed this by placing the patch crfs into \res\patch and changing darkinst.cfg to point to those files before the ones in \res\. Something Darkloader really ought to have done to make the game mod-ready.
Another alternative would be to merge the patch crfs into the main game crfs.
So, should my darkinst.cfg look like this:-
    resname_base .\EP+.\res\patch+.\res
    or this
    resname_base .\EP+.\res+.\res\patch
    ???

    Thanks in advance.

The first one. Read patch resources before main game resources.

When you ran the installer, it copied your Install.cfg to Install.cfg.epbak before modifying it.
To uninstall: delete the modified Install.cfg, put Install.cfg.epbak back into its place, and then delete EP.crf.

NV, the 2nd fixed installer crashes Thief 2.

Here's my darkinst.cfg before EP is installed:-

    cd_path .\
    install_path .\
    language english
    resname_base .\res\patch+.\res
    load_path .\
    script_module_path .\
    movie_path .\movies

    After EP is installed:-

    cd_path .\ %B
    install_path .\ %B
    language english %B
    resname_base .\res\patch+.\res %B
    load_path .\ %B
    script_module_path .\ %B
    movie_path .\movies %B

Reference to ep.crf isn't even added to the resname_base line.

Well, someone would have to redo the textures first.
Once you had 256x256 versions, you'd need to go through every map and resize and realign every suface that used that textue. I do believe Telliamed wrote a tool to help you automate that process, though.
Well I guess id better get started then, Ill hed on over to the Guild forum to get some help

Great. I almost begin to think I should get a new batch of beta-testers just to test the installer (amazingly, none of the beta testers had any problems with it.)

    Try this version.

Your .exe is fine; it's surely a problem with your darkinst.cfg, which the installer seems to be in the habit of breaking at the moment!

I think I'll remove the download mirrors not under my direct control until this installer issue is sorted.

  18. #93
Hmm, none of the installers worked, although modifying that one line in the darkinst to resname_base .\EP+.\res\patch+.\res allows saved games to utilize the resources. Selecting a new game crashes TMA, however.

That's a new one. Either the resources are loadable, or they are not. There should be no middle ground like that. Are you sure you don't have another problem with your install, such as the movies crashing it?
Also, make sure there's one extra blank line at the end of darkinst.cfg. That could also, theoretically, cause such a crash when trying to play a movie.

  20. #95
Is that blank line in the form of a small box? It's there.

    cd_path d:\
    install_path c:\program
    language english
    resname_base .\EP+c:\program
    load_path c:\program
    script_module_path c:\program
    movie_path c:\program

That's just before I added the resname_base modification.

Weird, mine installed just fine for thief 1 and thief 2. But for thief 1, I used the first patched installEP.bat I'll have to test saving and see what happens. Oh, and thief 2 I just used the original installep.bat from the original archive IIRC.

oh, and Nameless Voice, perhaps an actual installer would be easier (using something free like NDIS or something)

Weird, revert back to your previous thief2.exe - is this the one that asks for disc, or is it after you used the one the dude posted above?

@Nameless Voice: I have to ask, why use Darkinst.cfg instead of install.cfg? Thief 2 has one of those too.

Here's my darkinst.cfg for thief 2 after installation for comparison:

    Code:
    cd_path E:\
    install_path C:\games\Thief2
    language english
    resname_base .\EP+C:\games\Thief2\res+E:\thief2
    load_path C:\games\Thief2+E:\thief2
    script_module_path C:\games\Thief2+E:\thief2
    movie_path C:\games\Thief2\movies+E:\thief2\movies
Btw EvaUnit, it is not a good idea to be posting about nocd on these forums. Just a warning incase you get attacked by a mod

What do you mean by busted? Could you be more specific? Also, post your install.cfg files' content

And I should ask, did you try manual install?

Just trying to help you out NV - I'm no expert but I try to help if possible. One man shouldn't have to help everyone alone.

Thanks, I've deleted the offending post.

I have managed to get T:TDP to work flawlessly with EP, Daemonoite's models (mesh) pack and Orgy's textures pack. EP doesn't add T2's higher poly-count arm meshes, T1's ones are as ugly as sin IMO.

    1st = TDP vanilla
    - 2nd = TDP+EP - 3rd = TDP+Daemonoite's - 4th = TDP+Daemonoite's+Orgy's - 5th = TDP+Daemonoite's+Orgy's+EP

Simply unzipping Daemonoite's pack wholesale into your thief directory will just override EP's i.e. new sword model+skin and arm skin (etc), which we don't want.

What I did was drop the original zipped Daemonoite's 24-bit colour TGA version pack and Orgy's hardware version pack (But for the latter I had to first extract it all to a temporary location, move all of the directories into a new directory called fam and finally zip up that fam directory.) into my T1 directory, renamed the zip files to crf and finally modify the appropriate line in the install.cfg to look something like this:-
    resname_base .\EP\Thief1+.\EP+.\texturepatchhw\+.\dtmp10_tga\+e:\Thief+E:\Thief\RES+I:\thief

    Sneaksie, and Nameless,

It caused both to fail to run either through Darkloader or on a direct call.

I fixed them by removing EP and then re-installing.

I can't/won't post the .CFG as my editing changes the system to No CD, which same is not allowed in the forums as information.

But at the moment all is well.

I did a automatic install, then tweaked both manually, using the updated >2.Zip, and they both crashed to black screen.

TMA is working well at the moment, but I need to run a couple of FMs I know intimately to double check.

Thanks for the interest and the help.

    Dusty
