Raen's not usually that subdued but he was drunk the whole time, so...

pav - I notice you're from Katy, TX. My favorite guitar player in the universe is from there - Ty Taybor (King's X). Every heard of him?

    So what's your excuse fett?

I've only been in Katy a couple years, but I've known about King's X for a long time. I'm from New Orleans, so music has always been a big part of my life. Remember Gretchen Goes to Nebraska? Well, my RL name is Gretchen which is not a name you see every day. A friend told me about the album, so I checked out the music. I've loved King's X ever since. Great music, and yes Ty is a damn fine musician. Are you in Texas, too?

Nope - Arkansas. I discovered them after Faith, Hope, Love and have been a rabid fanboy ever since. IMO they are THE most underrated band in the history of music. It's sad to hear their influence everywhere today and they still haven't really 'made it'. I've become friends with Doug (dUg) over the years and have seen them live at least 20 times. The new album hits May 20 and sounds like it's going to be a killer.

Gretchen is still in my CD player at least once a month after all these years - brilliant.

Also, i should mention that there will be larger 640x480 versions (the ones in the package are 320x240) of the commentaries available for individual downloads hopefully within the next few days.

i watched the entire commentarie of the t2x missions

something i noticed,i agree about the non hostile guards desion you made, but i found one problem, you are able to walk around guards with a weapon out with no reaction that is only draw back i saw, while playing missions

i also noticed you were talking about other project i thought were canned,so are more series of fm's coming out?

super impressed with the over all product

and you also said zaya was not from egypt,i was one of those people who figured she was middle eastern, due to cut scene with egyption markings

i never did like knock out hammer, wont try to explain why,but felt chunky, and as video shows you get misses alot due to feel of it

i did like the garret scene but it would have not been possible to see him there,as we all know in thief when the sherrif was killed and the girls said outloud the sherrif has been murdered was when garret was inside masion trying to get evidence, but you showed him running by outside from left to rightand in map the left side is a dead end if looking from balcony like you had it

over all i think t2x was very good, but i think the plot team got off way to easy compared to the rest of the t2x team,so many simple mistake anyone who played either thief would have seen

also if there is another big community project, please if you have a plot team make sure they know the first 3 thiefs made, nothing worst then to hear a plot guy say i am not even a thief player, and then we expected to belive the plot they put across

dont get me wrong alot of things were perfect like the lack of keepers,in game since we all know that girl would have had no chance to figure that out, like garrett

wow i just want to keep going on but i will wait for a reply to see the reaction i get from other people who saw the commentairys

and since the last thing someone says is remembered most

thank you to the entire t2x team, trust me i loved the mission set over all

Didn't say I wasn't a Thief player - said I wasn't a big 'gamer'. Huge difference. The entire plot team was intimately familiar with the plot of the first two games (the third having not been released at that time). If you read all the in-game texts carefully you'll see numerous references to many obscure sub-plots and characters from the original games. We also tried to adhere strictly to Thief chronology with all the plot details and events. The appearance of Garrett at the wrong place in time - I'll have to blame that on the mission designer.

Were there any other plot details that you felt reflected a lack of knowledge about the original games on the part of the team?

nope,as i said before i loved t2x and feel the entire team went above and byond there calling

all my opinion are from a players point of view

i completely understand i lack alot of the know how in how things are done to create a playable fm,i was not trying to bash the plot team, the story over all and how things played out i liked alot

thank you for fast reply,i had no idea map maker made final desions on released product as far as that garrett scene,i figured one of the plot people would have said -hey that is not possible to happen like that

maybe if we thief players get lucky i will keep my eyes out for the 25th aniversary of t2x,yes i will hold you to that :P

also i want to admit i am guilty of being of of those players who never reads anything,i will open the stuff just in case it is needed to complete mission ,but as far as trying to read all the readable, that is not possible for me,i dont mind small readable i guess like 25% of a page, but when i see pages and pages there is no way i will read all that, yes i know alot of readables contain clues, but i think years ago it was stated by alot of the thief players that readable should be optional,as not everyone enjoys reading a bunch of letters/books to get further in a mission

only readable i like are signs on building where the text appears on screen :P

i sometimes think to define a thief player is impossible since there are so many type of players,i am sure the people who loved all the details in readable love it but for me it was not my thing

but that goes back to the days on text adventure games on my ibm 386 playing hitch hikers guide to the galaxy,or twillight zone, etc. those games in the 80's drove me crazy

ok one last mistake i found in t2x story line

if i am not mistaken t2x is taking place after thief 1 but before thief 2

if that is true then how is it possible then how is it that the beast killed truart, when that time shouldent of happend yet,as you said with uniforms with hammer and mech was differnt,so i am taking it part 2 thief is still in future, unless t2x takes half after thief 1 but the later half would have to be during part 2 in order to see garrett in that one mission let alone even being at truarts place

    i hope thta makes sence

so i guess i want to ask does t2x take place after part 1 of thief but then duing t2x you acculty are in same time line as thief 2 since you showed truart killer, garrett

You've got it right. Zaya comes to the city between T1 and T2, and her story ends at the same time Truart is killed in T2. She leaves the city around the time of the T2 mission "Trace the Courier" and "Trail of Blood."

As for the mechanists - we assume they splintered off from the Hammers between T1 and T2 but hadn't risen to power yet as they did over the course of the T2 storyline. Therefore their uniforms and colors still reflected their Hammerite origins moreso than they did as the order progressed over the course of T2. (We also thought the Mech uniforms in T2 looked gay. )

Generally the plot team looked over all the missions before release (I personally looked at them all at least three dozen times in the last month), but there were certain things left up to the designers imagination and at the time, the appearance of Garrett didn't seem like a big deal. Since so many people have noticed and commented on it, maybe we should have left it out. We had an earlier cameo of Garrett in Mission 10 that I personally liked better, but after all - the project was a democracy and not everyone agreed on every little thing like that.

ohh ok i think i understand,so from what i am hearing i take it zayas time between each mission was a good amount of time that pasted? in order for hammers and mechs uniforms to change

I don't think anyone is making T4 right now.

Also for future reference, try to post all your thoughts in one post, instead of multiple replies to yourself.

No - that's only a rumor based on a vague hint from Eidos. Nothing has been confirmed yet.

Mad props for the commentary. I've listened all the way through. It's good stuff.

    A few things:

Raen touched a focal point of Thief's brand of passive stealth, and that is the peeling back of the facades and leering into the naked truths. There's definitely a sense of empowerment to be had there. It's a game's take on voyeurism with some highly satisfying instances.

The other thing is I was reminded of something from Mission 9, "Into the Fray." A dead hammerite is pinned to the wall overlooking a well, and there's a crate underneath him with some hidden loot in it. It didn't look natural. I thought that was over the top and stood out like a puffy eye.

    Question,

How can I make use of all these .MIS mission files in the "Making Of" download? Apparently they contain the early versions of a few missions in Thief2X, and I am highly interested in playing them and seeing what were the rough drafts for these missions.

You need to load them in dromed. Instructions are in the readme file. Basic knowledge of dromed would be useful though as the readme does not give instructions in its use (for obvious reasons). You'll need to search the editors guild if you want to know about the various commands.

But, to simply play the maps, load them in dromed and press "ALT G" to go in-game. To return to dromed press "ALT E" (i think).
