    Mission testing forum

    Hoi,

I made a thread about this in the fan missions forum, and someone recommended that I also post this annoucement here.

As a thief fan with no dromed and limited art skills, it's difficult for me to give anything back to authors who spend a lot of time creating missions for the public to enjoy. I do try to help out with beta testing whenever I have the time and I get there before the queue.

As epithumia's Thiefmissions.com is sadly on long-term hiatus, the site's mission tester forum is also no longer in use. I recently tested a beta and set up a little forum so we can discuss things easily. I got thinking of the availability of such as service, and I decided to set a proper forum using a spare forum I had used but no longer.

Therefore, I present a forum dedicated to mission testing:

    http://shalebridgecradle.co.uk/testing/index.php

If you're a fan mission author with a mission currently in beta, or upcoming, give me a bell, and I'll set up your own forum for testing & discussions that you will be able to manage by yourself or with support.

I hope authors find this an ideal solution particularly with a group of testers.

    Bravo, Dussander!

I think this is a wonderful service to provide to the FM author community. I urge all authors who currently handle testing via email or other limited methods to try this out, you'll never go back! It makes the whole process much, much easier.

I registered even though I have my own forums to test my missions with...

Rather than requesting someone test my fan mission, is there somewhere I can volunteer to be a tester for someone? When I finally get enough of a mastery of DromEd I'll be building fan missions of my own and will require testers, so it won't hurt to build up some credit first so to speak.

I had inspiration last night. I made a usergroup in which registered users can freely join and part. Mission authors can view it to see if there are people available to test their missions.

(People can join usergroups using the user control panel)

The email system went a bit potty, so you're account was manually activated

Thanks, Dussander! Nice forum. I'm registered & have joined the Available for Testing group. I think this will be an excellent tool for putting beta testers & FM authors together as well as providing a special forum for beta testers. I also like that you've given a place to list which FMs have been previously tested by each user so authors have a better idea of each tester's type of experience.

Dussander, I wonder if you might want to add a place for testers to put their computer specs. That would make it easier for authors to get a better variety of testing equipment.

Alexius probably confused your forum with mine, Dussander. They're testing HI at mine (although if they want to move to yours it's OK with me).

A small question: Is this forum also aviable for non-english missions and testers? This means, there a also non-english threads and so on...

    Is this okay?

Probably, although the forum software itself might not support non-English languages. You may want to email Dussander about this.

The default language for the forum would be English as is the FAQ, but this wouldn't stop a group of testers speaking entirely in their own language while testing, if they (the author) wouldn't mind speaking to me in English when needed (like when testing is done and the forum needs locking). There are language packs about for the forum and from what I've seen they're easy enough to install, so they would provide links and everything in that language.

I'd like to announce that pavlovscat has joined the 'admin team' as a forum setup admin, due to her hard work in the beta-testing scene and on the Circle. She will be able to do any setup work necessary for when people need a new forum.

Please congratulate her and include her in on any requests.
