This is a fantastic mission! So nice when a sequel lives up to the original. Stuck on a side-quest in the first mission, though. I've completed all objectives except return to my room. I've searched, but not found the answer to this question (with apologies to whoever is offended if the answer is here and I missed it.)
I have the saw dust, and the ritual dagger, the horn of Quintus, the rosary, and I've used the sacred hammer to fill the water basin in the crypt. I can't get into the casino or cathedral. What now? How do these loose ends relate? This seems like a puzzle for which I should have found a readable with hints, but I must have missed it.
Eigenface i can give you a little hint:
to the casino, go behind it and look up, you need a rope arrow.. but it is not so important for the game reach that place.. anyhow i'm glad to help you in someway...![]()
Eigenface: Regarding the casino, that's fairly straight forwards.
Hint: Look up
Spoiler: You need to use a rope arrow
As for all the other stuff, just leave it alone. There is absolutely nothing you can do with it right now. Let's just say that opportunities may open up later on where that knowledge may be helpful, and remember that any items you have that are useful carry over to the second mission.
Oh, wait, except for the one of those items, which is involved in a secret side quest. I'll only give you a very vague hint for that, as it's more fun to find it on your own. Hint: Look around the general area where you found the sewer key (near the casino, the bridge, and the passageway to the square with the locksmith's shop).

Thanks for the hints.
im stuck with the musical puzzle with the victrola, cant make the same sound , I do not have any talent in music, lol , i have 4 hours trying but nope nothing ,,, i need direct help , can any one help me![]()
JonesCrusher: I forgot that one can drop down that area without a rope arrow, and I should've placed one in there. I'm sorry to say, but in this case you're in a dead end.
I sent you a PM.
Garret- son: Take a look at your Thief 2 directory: there's a folder in it called BT_TonePuzzle which contains a picture of the solution. I included it for players having trouble with the puzzle.
4 1/2 hours in on the first mission and I still feel like there's plenty to do (plenty of certain types "doors" are still locked) into the thick of things. I've reached a mission milestone, but I feel like the real MEAT is just starting. This mission is epic!
Thanks Eshy!
still on part 1, read about punchcards, but cannot find any machine in the inventor's tower. been up both elevators, found a fire arrow. spoken with the keeper and looking for a way to find the dagger so I can follow the recipe and purge the demon.
a little nudge please.
thank you

"To live in the light is to see everything, to live in the dark is to see everthing you missed in the light."
safriend: Go back into the inventor's tower and take a good look around the area where you found the fire arrow. You're not quite on the top floor yet.
safriend
Look up in the broken goods elevator
I followed the clues through the sewers to get into the crypt. I can't find a way out? I see the place that is frobbable with a hammer but I don't have a hammer. Never found one either. No way back out through the sewers either.![]()

Vandoe: Look for a sarcophagus that is out of place then look up.
I finished part 1, but there was one door I never got open and I was curious:
spoiler:
In the living quarters area of White Cathedral (near the chalice), there is a locked door with blood seeping out from the bottom. Its not pickable and I never found the key.
Is there a way to get in there?
P.S. - My final time for part I was 6 hours, 10 minutes.
canetoad: Via the sanctuary.
elkston: The key is in the crematorium.
Its amazing how a few high rez textures, a great story and some well built architecture can breathe new life into an engine thats more than a decade old.
Between this mission, DrK's third chapter of NiR and me somehow not discovering HoC: A long way up by Sterlino until early last month - this has been the best month for FM's for me since I started reading these forums years ago.
Now if we can just get the three of you to pool your talents together to make Thief 3: No, Seriously This Time![]()
Anyway, starting mission 2 now after having explored every nook and cranny in mission one.![]()
My game keeps crashing when the Keepers engage in conversation. The furthest I've gotten is just before the Keeper encounters the unconscious Garrett in the cathedral.
Is there something wrong with my system?

Thanks. Aha, it turns out I had the key in my inventory all along. I must have picked iit up during my escape and not even realized it. Considering the circumstances I wasn't paying much attention. I was rushing out the door, actually.
I have finished first part and I'm at the beginning of 2nd part now. I'm speechless, simply speechless, Eshaktaar. All is excellent, absolutly excellent !!! Graphics, story, new objects, ... all.
Man, I spent over 5 hours on finishing the first mission and the stats screen tells me I only got 3 out of 8 secrets and 1725 out of 2010 loot? That feels so... incomplete. AWESOME, yet incomplete.
Any hints or downright spoilers for the remaining secrets would be appreciated. Normally I wouldn't have bothered and just went on with the 2nd mission, but the secrets here are so great...![]()
The ones I got are:
1. The Unnamed Riddler tomb
2. The secret chamber in Garrett's basement
3. The secret "huge emerald" chamber in the museum (used the staff)
I also got the gem out of the tube using the bellows and broke into the casino
List of secrets for an incurable perfectionist?![]()
Here are a few pointers to secrets in mission #1:
The building south of the casino can be entered.
Remember where you read the note of a mechanist? Search the room a bit more.
One of the dioramas in the museum could be hiding something.
Alarius' jewelery shop might be worth another visit.
Yowsers!
Just completed the first level.![]()
One thing I could not do is open the door opposite the museum front doors.
In fact that was the only one I could not do.
Any ideas?
Anyway, shower and sleepsies call.
