Didn't know you were a DT fan Stitch - I've got the whole catalog. You should really check out LTE - especially the 2nd album. Also of note are the two Platypus albums featuring John Myung and Derek Sherinan (DT), Ty Tabor (King's X), and Rod Morgenstein (Dixie Dregs, Winger). Great post-beatles/prog stuff. They also did two albums under the name The Jelly Jam minus Sherinan that are phenomenal. All available at Inside Out Records.

James LaBrie's "Elements of Persuasion" also gets honorable mention, but only if you thought Falling Into Infinity was half-decent (features Mike Mangini on drums. Sacrifice your children to him NOW).

Are any of you DT fans into Spock's Beard? I have the Snow double-album which is fine if I'm in the right mood, but I'm not sure where to start for a more normal album given the whole Neal Morris pre/post issue. Suggestions are welcome.

That's the 3rd most played track on my iPod.

Anyway, I'm listening to Devotchka's "How it ends". I just saw the TV-spot for Gears of War 2 where that Devotchka track is played and it's pretty much the most brilliant use of a song in a gametrailer ever.

Hehe, same here. Actually, the first time I heard Elizium I didn't like it at all, and went back to the Nephilim album. I blame the fact that I had a nasty cold then. I only revisited the album a few months later, and this time I fell in love with it

Incidentally, I named my Fallout 3 character McCoy. He's wearing a cowboy hat and is a post-apocalyptic preacher type (the GOAT test decided he was going to be Vault 101's chaplain).

I would like Dream Theater a lot more if they would get rid of James Labrie. His vocals send dogs running and I feel an urge to kill whenever I hear that fucker sing.

Anyway, just listened to Ulver's Teachings in Silence. Amazing, wonderfully dark little EP.

Honking Antelope from Serj Tankian's Elect the Dead.

Goddamnit, this album may actually be better than SOAD's Toxicity, and that's saying something.

Been listening to Katatonia's Tonight's Decision. Damn fine album, as is typical of Katatonia (though nothing tops Brave Murder Day- anyone who likes Michael Ackerfeldt needs to hear that album immediately)

Brave Murder Day is great, but it's also the last Katatonia album I can really listen to. The later stuff is just... Well, it just doesn't work for me.
Also: If you like early Katatonia I recommend you check out October Tide, most importantly their first album.

In any case what I'm currently listening to is Skepticism - Aether and I'm going to see these guys live on February.

It's funeral doom, so you might be in for a ride if you don't know the genre.

As I like to irritate everyone else with all manner of doom metal, I'm familiar with it.

Do you listen to drone doom at all? Because I simply must recommend Asva- particularly their song "Fortune".

It's too bad you can't enjoy Katatonia's later stuff, because it's really quite good. Not br000000tal enough for ya?

It just pales in comparison to Katatonia's earlier style. I've tried to listen to some of their newer albums but they simply don't hit me as particularly interesting. I guess the br000000tality factor is also involved.

And yeah, I listen to drone as well. I haven't listened to Asva, though I've heard the name mentioned a couple of times. Should probably look into it. Right now my drone and similar collection includes bands like Burning Witch, Khanate, Nadja, Sunn O))), Earth and Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine.

Are Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine any good? What kind of drone are they? The usual, Earth/Sunn O))) style bass explosion or are they more understated?

Also, some Boris albums are droney- Feedbacker is one.

What do you think of Earth's new stuff from Hex: or Printing in the Infernal Method and later albums? Their new album "The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull" is acoustic beauty defined, IMO.

Also if you like Burning Witch or Khanate, check out Khlyst, featuring Runhild Gammelsaeter of Thorr's Hammer (the former band of the guys in Burning Witch.) Pretty good stuff.

To everyone else: like metal? (doesn't matter what type) Like reasonable attempts at reasonably intelligent discussions of such? PM me and I'll link you to a community for such a thing. I'd link it here but it'd get clipped by a mod for certain reasons ;p

Well I'm currently listening to 10,000 Days again and I suppose that's metal, of sorts.

    Also Unkle from 1998.
