And I'm on an "Arthur (Or The Decline And Fall Of The British Empire)" kick again for some reason. At some point when I'm not utterly lazy (i.e. never) I'll get around to doing a Thief machinima video for Victoria.
Supernature - Inkubus Sukkubus
Some good ol' Pagan rock

aaah too many great albums from 2008 that I didn't hear in time for my list
next up: Atlas Sound, Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel
The first track (or rather, the one that comes after a ghost story) is so simple and beautiful:
i walked outside
i could not cry
i don't know
i don't know why...
damn, this why I listen to music so much.
Daedalus & MF Doom - "Impending Doom"
Ahh, that's some mighty fine hip-hop.
MF Doom fucking rules, I've been listening to a lot of Madvillainy recently, what album is this from?
King Crimson "Starless"
I had forgotten how much I liked king crimson, I can tell what I'll be listening to for the next 6 months probably (if trends hold).
Son Lux - "Raise"
This track is fantastic, from the polyphonic vocals to the violin+turntable break three and a half minutes in. The rest of the album's pretty great, too. Possibly my most pleasant surprise of 2008.
what the hell are polyphonic vocals
Cansei de Ser Sexy - Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex
I <3 their poppy nonsense so much it's ridiculous.
The irony of his asking that is that polyphony was created specifically for vocal music (i.e. organum).
Bear, can you give any recommendations for Crimson records? I've been meaning to dig into them for awhile and haven't actually listened to anything besides In The Court, Discipline, and Vrooom/Thrak, all of which are fab.
King Crimson is a mixed bag for me, the only other album I could suggest that I like right through is Red (album starless is off). I like most of Thrak too but after that there are just a lot of individual songs that I really like. It took me a long time to figure out which those are, so if you want some song suggestions from other albums I could do that too (though not knowing your preferences it would be hard to say what you would like).
My hard drive with my music crashed so I've only got 3 king crimson albums right now, red trak and the power to believe (newer one but still good).
Temptation - Leaves' Eyes
Death growls FTW
In response to the Polyphony thing:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphony
I know quite a bit about it because tradtional singing in my native country of Georgia is mostly polyphonic and one of my parent's friends(who is also from Georgia) has a doctorate in Music and has written a few books on the subject.
King Crimson - Into the Frying Pan
This is one of my favorite songs ever by them, cant find a video link to it. Given what I've been listening to for the last months (almost a constant stream of the most hateful music I could find) it seems totally out of character to go right back and forth between the two, but I totally dig this shit.
How's this version? "In [sic] the Frying Pan"

Rather good actually! I'm surprised they can pull it off that well live with all the voice distortion and general synth stuff they tend to do, but it was pretty much spot on (minus a little perfection obviously from the studio version)
Good find! I typically look on youtube/googlevid and if I cant find it, give up
Pantera - Floods
One of these days I'm going to make a Katrina montage video to this song (I mean, I won't, but I really should)
Art of Fighters - Earthquake.
Track with guard voices from Thief: The Dark Project.
Viva Hate in it's entirety has been in random rotation since reading through the Morrissey thread earlier...Dial a Cliche' is playing ATM.

When the levee breaks
This one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs, and ironically another song I had it in my head to do a Katrina montage to (video is exactly that done by someone else). I guess its a little obvious given the name, but its fucking awesome anyways. This video is basically a picture montage, I had all kinds of crazy ideas but it would require doing some actual filming and I don't have the gumption (not to mention it wouldn't be half as good as it is in my head).
Clock with No Hands by The Roots
Traffic - Walking In The Wind

I've been flipping between Actionist Respoke by Mouse On Mars, Travelin Band by CCR, I Feel Fine by the Beatles, and...er, Free Bird...this morning. Not sure what's up with that.
