I drove to class and then drove home with this on loop in the pouring rain with lightning flashing and thunder rolling and the streets empty.

    It was an experience.

Animal Style is awesome. He takes real guitar and filters it through a Gameboy soundchip to create some seriously awesome stuff- check out his Open Air EP, especially.

Pity What Is Species seems to be unavailable.

Yeah, the files seem to be borked. Good stuff, otherwise.

You should check out Puss if you like this kind of stuff. Also, they're called Puss.

    YEEEES YEEEEES gawd

Yeah ok, they're good. I like "It fit when I was a kid" best from that Drum album.

I'm currently listening to some old Ry Cooder song and not really enjoying it. I like the stuff from his last 3 albums a whole lot better than his old stuff.

To each their own, but Savage has no company..and for that very reason it should not be so cut and dry as chalking it up to bad taste.

The Savage Nation is the only place where you can hear anecdotes on life as a botonist with primitive tribes, Cuban jazz and reflections on Dostoyevsky all in one show.

Also, he's better described as a fiercely independent charlatan than a "right wing nut". He is a consistant supporter of the pro-environment and animal-rights movements, and he's easily as hard on the Republicans as he is the Democrats. I don't think one show goes by where he doesn't attack Rush, Hannity and O'Reilly as harshly as politicians/mouthpieces of either stripe.

Obviously if you've only heard a few of Savage's rants I can certainly understand how that would be off putting, but that's mostly because you don't suspect that an awful lot of what he does is satire and schtick. Still, I do tend to tune these bits out when they go too long, but I still catch a show when I am able. Love him or hate him, he has a lot of great stories when he's not frothing at the mouth.

Michael "Savage" Weiner was not Timothy Leary's friend and 'Gate keeper' just for being a rube. He's a Berkeley grad that used to go nude bathing with Alan Ginsberg and is a long-time resident of San Francisco. Taking such things into consideration, given his public persona, how is this not funny?

I know most of you don't care to know about his actual history or depth of character, and that is fair enough. It's just not honest to base your opinions and views on choice bits and pieces chosen for your consumption by others. If that shoe fits, tune in now and then and you will find yourself surprised if not amused.

Do stay away from his non-anthro/botanical/nutritionist books. I will stop far short of defending his recent writing as it is truly god-awful.
Thank you. I knew his history but I haven't read any of his books. He's a really smart guy who makes good money by entertaining people, and I respect that, and I'll listen to his show when I can. But enough of that.

Right now I'm listening to Alberto Balsam by Aphex Twin. Love the electronica.

The worst thing is that Savage is basically Godwin-proof by dint of being Jewish. If someone called him a Nazi (or neo-Nazi, as if the "neo" prefix somehow makes the term less of a Godwin) they would look stupid.

    Fucking asshole.

Savage is a reprehensible piece of shit. heretic's defense of the guy essentially hinges on "but he has a colored history and interests other than slurring gays and inciting racism, and that negative stuff is just satire anyway."

less politics more music (a lot more)

Been playing around with that yooouuutuuube thing, here are some more videos that work rather well in it:

    Battles - Tonto
    POS - Drumroll
Multicyde - Not for the Dough
Familjen - Det Snurrar i min skalle
Junior Senior - Move Your Feet
The White Stipes - Seven Nation Army

Fiddled around with the rows and columns on all the videos a lot but I found out it's pretty useless after I changed resolution and the videos didn't sync any more the way I had intended. bleh

    The Sound - I can't escape myself

How I missed these fine purveyors of post-punk goodness is beyond me, especially given some of the music nuts I've known (the sort of obsessives who can not only tell you albums, dates and personnel but even equipment used).

Listening to the new Riverside album, 'Anno Domini High Definition'. I really like it, but I liked all of their stuff so far, so no surprise here.
