    Sorry, I didn't tell you that I have completed all the objectives. I enter the room with the four mages, but as I try to put the diary on the table they kill me..

    Many thanks to jiansonz for the tip! I tried that before, but with the wrong piece of equipment - doh!

    Got all the way to the end, tons of loot, found secrets, and can't finish. The mage wouldn't take my keys, so I used them myself and got the goods - but he still won't pay any attention to me. I clocked him once out of frustration. He doesn't even blink. And I did what I needed to do to expose him to the other mages, but nothing came of that, either.

    I guess I need the patch. Which means starting over. Normally that would really bug me, and I wouldn't bother. But I liked this level so much, I'm going to give it a rest for a few weeks, install the patch and have another go.

    I think the building of this thing was brilliant! I wanted to try and use objects as cave walls in a mission to rid myself of the scene complexity errors when too many irregular surfaces overlapped (I hate square caves). But the contest wasn't allowing any custom stuff, so pffft went that idea.

    Might it have worked?

    R_G: I guess you have to run and dodge, then.

    Redleaf: You don't need to restart to use the patch. It's a gamesys-only patch.

    I have managed to put the diary on the table without being spotted by the mages, but what is supposed to happen then?

    Go back to confront him. If nothing happens, make sure you're using the patch.

    He's dead! I guess I have to restart the mission now.

    I went back to the mage but nothing happens. Please note I have re-installed and patched the mission before playing again.
    Great mission anyway! I enjoyed it very much!

    Are you sure you have all the keys?

    I killed him after I have got three keys: he is no longer invincible after he reveals Garrett his plot, right?

    Then I started the mission anew, got the three keys, talked to the mage, and as he tried to whack me I fled to the library on the third floor, got the diary and the mage's key, went back to the four mages, put the book on the table and finally I went back to the mage's bedroom. He's still set on killing me...

    But doing that before he is dead should have some effect - which in my case did not.

    You have to do it before you talk to him once you've got the three keys.

    I've released a small update to this mission which fixes some of the long-standing bugs.


    Changes:
    • Updated lighting with 32-bit NewDark lightmaps.
    • Adjusted location of dumb waiter key to make it more visible.
    • Gave all keys more descriptive names
    • Fixed wall with incorrect physics in gallery room, and patch of floor with wrong material sound.
    • The hidden objective is now optional.
    • Adjusted mages to not go up to alert 2 when dousing a torch,
    • Fixed timing on fire mage's reaction to torches being doused, if triggered more than once.
    • Tweaked stairs to prevent accidental landing-from-jump sounds when trying to walk down them.
    • Made the "Hmm" hint about the bridge easier to trigger.
    • Fixed missing material sound on broken bridge.
    • Fixed Vince's patrol route to make it less likely for him to get stuck walking into the mess hall table.
    • Rewrote Edmund's diary to be a less silly (and to use proper spelling, as the intentionally-bad phonetic spelling is very unfair to non-native English speakers.)
    • A few other minor tweaks.


    Note that the mission now requires NewDark v1.27 or later.

    I realised, after releasing the v1.2 update, that I forgot to fix one of the biggest complaints that people had with the mission - not being able to understand my poor voice acting!

    So, I've made another update which adds full subtitles for all the spoken exposition lines!

    Changes:
    • Added subtitles for all spoken exposition
    • Fixed thieves sometimes walking through walls
    • Fixed the drop button not working with flash bombs

    i got two keys and i'missing the firekey. i got the ruby but what should i do with the ruby to get the fire key?

    Have you been to the Lost City area and read all the readables there?

    Bigger hint: Specifically, the scroll about summoning the fire?

    Outright spoiler: you need to summon the fire elemental and get the key from him. There are three possible ways to do so, one involves giving him the ruby.
