Thread: What have you watched lately?

Spent the past few days watching all of 'The Thick of It' because I needed more Malcolm Tucker after 'In the Loop.' I imagine if I actually knew much about British politics I'd probably rupture myself laughing, but even not knowing much it's still one of the funniest things I've ever watched. And it still made me feel for the characters, which is something. It's practically a non-stop assault of amazing profanity (I'm still looking for a way to work 'useless as a marzipan dildo' into a conversation), and I was still kind of upset at what happens with Nicola and Malcolm in the second to last episode of the most recent series. I still need to watch the specials.

And on a lark I watched the premier episode of 'Spartacus: Blood and Sand.' It is awful. It is one of the most tremendously fucking awful things I've ever watched. It's trying to be '300,' 'Gladiator,' and 'Rome' all at once, and it fails utterly (and the 'Spartacus passionately fucks his wife' sequence is cribbed shot for shot from the 'Leonidas passionately fucks his wife' sequence in '300.' Not to mention all the dialogue lifts). I have honestly seen porn with better production values and acting. The only things that make it apparent that a premium cable network was involved in producing this are the tits and swearing.

The bit a couple of episodes before the end were Malcom Tucker takes Terri to one side and starts ranting about Egyptians is one of the most painful, brilliant bits of television I've ever seen.
Nothing has highlighted the pain of political death so perfectly.

I saw the last episode of Dexter season 4 yesterday.

A couple of minutes before the end I was thinking, why bother doing season 5, there we go, he's reached some sort of understanding, he's had his thing with Debs, how can this go any further?
    And then...

Watching 'the Kiling', bit of a Danish 24, highly recommended for political thriller junkies. What is it with vikings and awesome television. My top 5 of consists solely of Scandinavian-stuff.

Big Love, season 4, polygamist melodrama at its finest.

Yeah Namdrol, the end of Dexter season 4 was kind of special in a I hated it because I have the hots for Rita way. But then it seems its perfectly placed for a "reboot" with him going a bit back to roots for the next season.

Also, I find it weird that Dex and his sister are married in RL. That's like some weird messed up incest right there, only not.

It was an interesting choice only in so far as they've now created the ultimate potential for a truly monstrous Dexter without any of the normalcy that's kept him grounded for over 3 seasons. We've watched as his code has been slowly eroded, at first through error and then choice, and moral ambiguity creeps into Dexter's thought processes regularly to make him question everything about his code. Arguably Rita and the kids was the only thing that stopped Dexter becoming the monsters he hunts... that's really the only place left to go from here, his descent into becoming a true monster and the end of his run when his sister finally discovers the truth before putting an end to him.

I'm at least hoping they've got the balls to go all-out for season 5 and stop it there. Season 4 lacked punch.

"Demoni" aka "Demons" . Best 80s style horror movie ever. Best movie soundtrack ever. Best collection of hot Italian female actresses in a single old movie-house full of scary demons.

    Another YouTube gem:

"me and my friend watched this movie and we like screamed are heads off.this movie was like freaken creapy."

Putting YouTube comments on DVD covers would be "freaken" brilliant marketing move in my opinion.

Yup, it took me a while to get through season 4 and its what I meant about how I wished they were going to finish it, (until that ending!).
1 and 2 I just binged on and watched em back to back, 3 less so and then 4 dragged.
I still think it's better than 95% of what's out there though

What I am watching at the moment is Breaking Bad, I'm on episode 5 of series 1 and it's one of the most uncomfortable things I've seen.

Well that is a bit too much love, it isn't scary or anything, but you can feel the maker's joy in making it sipping through every crank of it. Great stuff that you will forget all about the second it ends, but until that moment it's just a fun movie, if you like this kind of thing this is just the thing you like.

edit: oh and if you like the more obscure, go watch 'Let the right one in', SWEDISH VAMPIRES. This is by far the best movie I have seen in a long, long time. If this isn't getting stoned to death with awards...

Off with the flu for the past 2 days.
Sadly yesterday I stayed in bed.
However today I dragged myself into the living room and settled down with the following:

Frequently Asked Questions about Time Travel - not bad
I Hope They Sell Beer In Hell - fucking hilarious
GI Joe - i actually like this film

While I realise this means I am officially dead to people on here with those choices; I actually rather enjoyed them - so there.

I am being pestered to watch Human Target - and as a man who hates Mark Valley with every ounce of my being - this may not be wise. However anyone on here watched it?

Oh yeah, Community is a genius show - rivalling Scrubs.

I don't think you understand the issue at hand here. Scrubs is the cancer that is killing funny. Judging by your statements I'll be skipping Community as well.

Comeon now. The first three seasons of Scrubs were pretty damn funny. You might be bitching about it now, but secretly you love it for what it was.

No. No I don't. I've wanted to punch Zach Braf in his stupid pouty face since day one.

Care to explain why you think it isn't funny instead of just keeping bitching about it?

And yeah, Scrubs was for me one of the only series that actually made me laugh.

What, you want a fucking chart? It's a load of egocentric wash that mixes "drama" and "comedy" extremely poorly. The writing is terrible and the show only marginally improves when Zach Braf isn't on screen.

Maybe this is your problem; you aren't supposed to laugh at that, it isn't funny. What it is though, is fun.
