    New Bioshock 2 Trailer

The new footage reveals a brand new villain for the sequel, as well as new enemies, weapons and gorgeous Rapture environments - some of which have been surrendered to the sea.

The footage in the game looks great, but the two things that don't strike a chord with me are a.) the voice acting and b.) the soundtrack, both of which were a strength in the first game. The Penderecki influenced music was awesome, this trailer is basically John Williams lite.

I think it looks like Call of Duty 16

I must have missed the war movies that Bioshock is referencing, or the endlessly spawning squadmates who show up to help you deal with the endlessly spawning enemies, or the part of the game where all you're doing is trying to advance to the next invisible script-trigger line as fast as possible, or the character customization in CoD, but otherwise it looks a lot like CoD16. You gets to shoots stuff.

    Smart arse.

I see shooting with a variety of futuristic weaponry and very little else.

I guess that the main problem with BioShock is that it is a sequel to the game that never needed any sequels.

Well yeah that's what's in the trailer. Except for the futuristic weaponry (hi).

I think the shooting looks more frantic than it did in the first game. Otherwise it would be cool to see what else the game involves, not that shooting stuff is bad in itself.

Gotta agree. The voice acting was overdone and over-dramatic like in a stage play, when what it needed was some subtlety. Maybe that was the point, but that might just be giving it too much credit.

And there's no story in that trailer, just very pretty explosions and electricity and water. It could be an arena battler for all you care. It might even be just that by the looks of things. But then again, the original Bioshock trailer wasn't much better at portraying what kind of game it was going to be.

I hope Jordan hasn't forgotten what made Fort Frolic work. It certainly wasn't the plasmids.

Yes, this was definitely the trailer for the people who like shooting stuff, and as you can probably tell, that's the side of the game that interests me the least.

The water effects and environments again, look nice, but aren't a huge leap over the original.

Come on 2K, you'll have to do more to pique my interest than this...

That actually how I felt about the voice-acting in the first game too. I still enjoyed a few of the performances, in much the same way as you can enjoy a scenery chewing turn from say Jack Nicholson, but I never believed any of them.

That said the action looks to be a bit meatier this time round (I was totally cool with a more action orientated FPS/RPG but the action in Bioshock lacked that punch that a good FPS has) and I'm sure Jordan Thomas still knows what made Fort Frolic and The Cradle so effective. The underwater sections are looking great and well hopefully bring those changes of pace that the original so desperately needed.

Now that I think of it, you're right. I agree that Bioshock had similar voice-acting, and of course there was plenty of enjoyable scenery-chewing. I think what's missing here is the conviction that Ryan's (and most every other major character's) voice actor brought to the role, which makes this new antagonist's little speech sound ever so off.

Yeah, I know. Guess I'm feelin' nitpicky tonight.

But the combat does look like it's going to be a lot more enjoyable this time around, which is something that the original didn't get quite right.

unless its just a demo clip and doesn't reflect actual game play, we got a few of them before the release of the original bioshock.

eg like the clip to get the record from the record shop, that doesn't appear in the game itself.

Trailer is... unimpressive. Some running. Some shooting. Some blasting. Lacks the impact of first Bioshock.

At least I could tell what was going on without hit effects making it look like I forgot my contacts this morning.

What exactly is going on here? Is TF telling Sulphur to get out for criticising the trailer?

I'm guessing that it's a reference to this supposed meme (I had never heard of it prior)?

There's nothing going on. It's TF doing his random 4chan drive-by thing that looks snarkily semi-relevant, but that's usually just down to how you interpret it.

He's like this internet version of Marcel Duchamp, only instead of just ripping out the urinal and putting it on a pedestal, he pees on it too.

Maybe it's commentary on TTLG and its posters. Maybe it's some sort of meta-criticism. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

TF: So avant-garde he doesn't need to flush. \m/
