    T2 FM: Bonds of Mine - 10/31/09

A "gold" version of this mission has been released as part of a mission pack in this thread:
    http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131383

Happy Halloween, Taffers! This level began soon after I created "Mine Affairs" and was meant to focus on creating an interesting and organic feeling outside environment with a convincing atmosphere. It evolved from several basic test environments as I experimented with what I felt worked to create the best environment and gameplay I could, using my own custom textures. In fact, all the evironment textures are custom, created from either pictures I personally took, or free textures I downloaded, and several I recreated based off of some very low quality Thief I textures. (The Object textures are pretty much all original). I must say though, I learned almost as much about the dark engine and dromed making this level as I did making "Mine Affairs".
The story evolved very slowly, but I tried to integrate a consistent theme in all the readables and somehow I ended up creating some back story to TMA in the process. I hope you enjoy the level and the gameplay, but most of all I hope I that the theme of the story is thought provoking to you. Bonus points if you can find the readable that relates to "Mine Affairs". =P

    Mission Description:
Thirty Thousand. A tidy sum to say the least, but that's how much my enigmatic benefactor offered me for this job. About a week ago I received a letter from a fellow who only identified himself as "L". He wants me to find a relic called "The Onyx Crown". Apparently it was last owned by a mage who lived in a secluded tower in the northern moutains and helps to focus one's magical abillities, making it very valuable to the magically inclined.
If it still exists, it would be in the mage's tower, but if the location was ever known, it is most certainly lost now. Over a hundred years ago the mage attempted to wipe out a group of Hammerites building a monastery nearby, but only succeded in getting herself utterly destroyed. That monastery is thought to be Saint Tothale's, which lies at the pass that leads to several small mountain settlements above a small garrison that protects the monastery and pass.
"L" included a map of the area and has provided a cabin to stay at not far from the monastery. The best place to start would be to sneak past the garrison, into the monastery and see if I can't find any records about the battle between the Hammers and this mage...

    New Version - 10c
    Changes:
Italian Language support added (Very Special thanks to Krenim!)
    Added a friendly patrolling frogbeast
    Fixed lodge doors height
Destroyed laughing ambient sounds after the wraiths have been destroyed
Made it so you fall straight down when teleported to the chasm
Some other stuff I don't remember, because it was so insignificant

New version Bonds of Mine 1.0c, with English and Italian Language Support
    Filefront
    Rapidshare
    DarkLurker & TTLG (Thanks Pavlovscat!)

    Tips:
Just drop into your missions folder, and use darkloader
Turn up the sound, and play in a dark room
    Ghosters will probably enjoy themselves
The Thief enhancement pack makes things look pretty nice

    ENJOY.

Has there ever been a day in the history of Thief with four non-contest missions released simultaneously? Wow!

Congratulations on the release of your FM Antimatter_16

When I walk from the house (frontdoor) to the dark path on the right, I can't get onto that path. I keep jumping back. Is this meant to happen?

I assume you mean the path in front of the Garrison or the north path at the monastery, yes, the teleporting back is meant to happen. Some dark forces are at work.

You'll also find dewdrop waiting for you someplace. =P (There's also an outhouse someplace, for those who are less fond of the doll.)

Try searching the library for clues, as the first objective suggested.

Hint 1: There's a red book there up on a shelf that describes the battle between the mage and the hammerites. It indicates that the mage's tower is someplace near the chasm.

    Hint 2: Follow the wisp

Answer: You can reach the mage's tower by jumping on the cliffs in the chasm and going north.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I'll have to get to a translationbook very quickly, because I can't understand what you are telling me,(the wisp?) but I'll get there ....
Thanks for letting me now, that I WILL find Dewdrop somewhere

    Gloria Creep

BTW: I allready had found the red book in the library .

    Will-o'-the-wisp.

That glowing ball that moves around about the chasm, with the eerie bells sound.

WOW AM_16, I totally dig the dark blue ambient light and moonlight! What a neat visual vibe you have going with that, the atmosphere is definitely creepy!

Thank you! Glad you like it. Sure made lighting the outside areas easier. =P The ambient sounds are really what make it creepy though. Just had to import some of my favorites from Thief1.

Anyone notice you can see through the keyhole in the health shields? Or that you can break bottles and vases?

I agree. Everything is amazing about the design and ambient. Very good job on this FM. A lot of dark places so ghosting is not such a big problem, but still a challenge with the invisible beasts.

I'm playing on expert and missing 15 loot and also I cannot find that damn frogbeast egg. I turned the map upside down and still I was not able to find it. Probably it is in an obvious location, as always.

Anyway, congratulation on the release. Maximum rating from me

Some loot: Did you found 2 crystals in the fire elemental caves? They are not that easy to be found.
The Frog egg: Search near the river in the beginning.

If it's 15 loot, you're looking for, it's probably the statue outside the garrison along the west wall.

Thanks. I've found some loot that I missed elsewhere, obviously in plain sight. I happens all the time.
