The Dark Mod Grand Christmas FM Contest!

You've had a week or two to get familiar with the Dark Radiant FM editor so we are now running a fast build FM contest. Deadline will be the week before Christmas but with a grace period of two weeks so if you start a bit late or not quite finished then the final date will be New Year's day. Hopefully this will mean a sprinkling of tiny fun FMs over the Christmas period. Even if you don't finish in time you can still submit your FM for voting to get an assessment.

    Details HERE

You should have posted this in the FM forum I believe.

Possibly. But it's aimed at FM-makers not players so I was unsure. Also didn't think it should go in the dromed forum. The moderators are free to move it if they think it's best in the FM forum. On reflection probably yes.

Sharga: Is that a 'I love playing contest FMs' or a 'I love entering FM contests'?

Hey, enthusiasm is what I do best.

I'm hoping to see more people get into the spirit of things here. Doing a nice little contest is a more than fun way to learn the engine and get some neat stuff done while doing it.

So why ain't we hearing more hulabaloo here, people?

Probably because I posted in the wrong forum.

Maybe I'll have to hurry up and get on top of those "video tutorials" I'm planning...
The Keep for Thief 1 and 2 FMs, Shadowdark for Thief 3 and Dark Mod FMs

It would be great to have these... But, please, remember about us, non-English taffers, and think about adding subtitles (or clear pronunciation).

I'm gonna be in the game too. Have a current project to finish by Thanksgiving. Then I'll be working on an X-mas contest release.

I've already got a 3 story place with moat/outside/backyard done. Still have some details to add, storyline stuff like books and loot placements.

But in a (solid) week I've reaquainted with an editor I haven't used much at all (and last time was a year ago), got layout done, most soundscapes, 4 AI's doing patrols, half the rooms sparsely decorated, water and have dabbled in every part of the editor (made furniture with moving doors/drawers in editor, used patches for ground and pillars/arches, used the tex alignment tool, learned patrol paths and soundscapes, got good grips on lighting).

So I think 2 months is plenty of time for anyone who has mapped to learn the editor and get a nice small mission at least almost done by then.

The more the merrier I always say

I do intend to participate. In fact, I have laid down some preliminary brushwork to get some of the basic shapes. Just got to avoid overreach with this one; TDM kinda lends itself to that if you aren't careful.

I have a feeling that there will be quite a few entries...new engine and all. If I could get DarkMod to work, I'd consider entering.

well if you lil tutorials are anything to go by I image your fm would be awesome.

one thing I will say to all authors though, bar the Dark mod Alpha - thus far all DM fm's have been far too 'clean' looking.. and the footsteps too loud..

Dirt costs extra - in time. There might not be enough to do much before Christmas. I've been griming up my FM today so there'll be plenty of filth next year.

My fm is going to have a doormat and a stiff letter from the property owner about muddy footprints. Problem solved.

oh! how did I miss this topic!

I'm in the contest and want to finish it before new year.

btw. there is still more than a month, so if anyone want to attempt, it's still possible to make it

You know, I'm still fully well intending to stomp everyones asses here.

COMEON PEOPLE! STEP UP! Most of you have been doing FMs for years! Gimme a run for my money!

edit: preview. This is the focal point of my new FM. The MacGuffin, if you will. Took me 2 weeks of constant modeling to do this, and I'm kinda proud of the thing.

It's a pot for a plant with headphones on.
