TDM FM: The Parcel by Xonze: Dec 24 2009

After lots of beta testing (thanks guys) and fixing I think I'm ready to release my Xmas Fm, The Parcel. Its your standard get in, grab something and get out.

Briefing: "I was expecting a package today just in time for Christmas, but it never showed. The runner never appeared either and I began to wonder what may of happened as Dave has never been late before. I did some digging and I finally found where he is, and where my parcel is as well. This, John Randell, has crossed the wrong guy. It's time to go to work."

Build time: This was built in a little under two weeks. Started December 6th and finished on the 16th before beta testing.

Known issues: Lights look lit even after putting them out. This seems to be a texture bug with the lamp itself.

    TDM Thread

Hope you have fun and Happy Holidays!

For those of you not yet on the Dark Mod bandwagon - you really should start playing these missions... they are only getting better and better as each one is released.

I can't load the mediafire page where it's hosted.... will try back later or once it's mirrored somewhere. The screens in the review thread look fantastic!

    TDM?

Perhaps an odd question, but what is a TDM mission?
    T1, T2 or T3 ???

This is a short mission and perfect for anyone starting out with TDM.

It is relatively easy and the guards are not too twitchy-aggressive, so you can actually get used to the controls and movements of TDM without too much frustration and reloading.

Thanks to Xonze for a good little mission.

finished it in less than half an hour on hard with some missing loot. Snow was so beautiful! when I blackjacked the guard in garden, I though he'll get cold if he lay down on snow and loved the idea of hidden button on fireplace Although it's short and small, it's a great map. thanks!

    As for hidden switches...

In the 2nd floor bathroom, the bathroom sink faucet turns to the right & I hear something open, but what is it opening? I checked all the other rooms too, but I can't see any change. Maybe I'm just blind...

Gloria Creep: By the way I PM'd you about TDM...

There is one more, well two hard to find rings. One is outside, look for a rock in the grass, there is a ring under it. The second is check the left nightstand in the room where the parcel is.

    Thanks for the comments everyone

    Nice mission.

Ghosted my way through, the main challenge was the loot.

    Thanks

I couldn't find 1000 loot on my first go, I got to about 750 without having KO'd anyone then got stuck, so I went blackjack crazy and still had to come here for hints! I'd failed to find any of the three cleverly hidden bits - the rock in the garden, and the secret compartments in bathroom and sitting room. It seems finding all of the 'obvious' loot plus one or two of those hidden bits will get you the Difficult loot requirement, which seems like good balance to me.

OK, almost ghosted with 100% loot in 22:12. I say "almost" because I couldn't do the chest in the kitchen without dousing the torch - anyone managed this? Plus, I got out of the house clean only to hear "I see that!" as the screen was fading to black, haha! I'm pretty sure it was the boss fella's voice, and I'm perfectly happy with that final insult - for him to catch a glimpse of me the moment I escape, having reclaimed my runner, with the thrill of discovering his house has been totally ransacked still to come

Incidentally, it seems that alert was worth 3 stealth points, as I reloaded and did it again unseen for a full score of 10. A fun little quick-ghost challenge. Oh btw, I liked the notes - they seemed to be completely handwritten?

It would be nice to see a bonus objective for rescuing Dave. But TDM doesn't show the objective list at the end of a mission (just the stats), so I don't know if this is possible. One niggle: the patrolling 2F guard goes in and out of the master bedroom even though it's locked and he has no key.

    Hey Piln,

I'm glad you enjoyed the mission so much I was hoping people would be okay with how I did the loot, I always figured if you were going to play on expert then you should have to hunt a bit to find all the required loot. I don't know if you can really get the chest without putting that torch out as the guard has a three point patrol there, but let me know if you ever do.

I really, really wanted to have getting Dave out as an objective, but could not get it to work. Even asked on the TDM forums and even with their awesome help it wouldn't work, so I removed it. I still left the mention in the notes and it seemed to have worked in getting people to want to get Dave out, even if it's not an objective which is very cool.
