TDM FM: Trapped! by RailGun: Dec 30 2009

This mission was supposed to be released for the christmas contest but i didn't like how it turn out when i finished it. Still i thought it would be a waste to drop this FM so i made a few changes and here it is.
Thanks for Fidcal and Baddcog for taking the time to beta test this FM

    Link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/nog2eyjmzyn/trapped.pk4

Briefing: "I was hired to find a gang of thieves which have been stealing from some very important and wealthy merchants, the watch haven't been able to find them so the merchants have hired me to do the job.
Searching for them wasn't easy, i managed to track them down to an abandoned sewer system but it looks like they were expecting me and knocked me out. Now i'm locked up in some sort of basement, no doubt the reason i'm still alive is that he wants who hired me and how much i know about their operation.
I need to get out of here while i still can."

Note: You start the map with no equipment, in addition to the loot objetive the difficult levels change the location of the sword and blackjack, so expect forced ghosting on expert (if you don't like ghosting, play easy)

    Congratulations on the release!

Could you please edit the thread title so people know it's about a TDM FM?

Thank you! Really had a great time with this mission. My review with screens can be found here for anyone interested.

The Dark Mod is looking better and better with each mission released!

    Loved this little mission.
The first guard was easily dealt with once I locked him into the cell with the key. After I found the blackjack I returned back and bj him
The overall atmosphere was very good, everything looked used and dirty. I wonder what this place used to be before it was abandoned and claimed by thieves.

I don't know why, but this mission keeps crashing on me. Never had a problem with other missions.

awesome mission! It has a tension in patrol areas especially you don't have any weapon. loved the broken saint lucia statue under blue lights. It may look better if its head wasn't near of it imo. I couldn't see any poll of your mission btw. Is it out of contest?

thanks for this great mission and merry christmas

maybe it's the fate that forced you to post a first comment in tdm missions. Don't take it personal, many people post only if they have a trouble

Crashes for me too, shortly after getting out of the cell. Do you have a Radeon graphics card? Seems I need to restart runtime after the game has crashed. Shame, I really like the looks of this one.

I have a Radeon card and experienced no crashes in two playthroughs - missions were crashing on me way back when TDM was first released but after updating my drivers I haven't had a crash since.

This was a cool little mission, I liked the location.
Also, the rats are awesome - wonder what these fellas are talking about:

I completed the mission with no problem at all.

To Railgun: I just want to say WOW and you truly have a gift at making TDM missions this was a pleasure to the eyes! The statues and all of the other textures were GREAT!! Please make some more and THANX!

Nice mission. I am really enjoying the dark mod. I know some people say that it doesn't feel like the original thief series but I disagree. It is similar enough and yet still has a different feel to make it unique. I think the main issue is that there isn't a story or main character for people to sink their teeth into. Anyways.

As far as the mission goes. I like the use of the manipulate feature of the dark mod. I escaped the cell then tried to put the bricks/boards back the way it was. I wasn't able to get everything back perfect but enough so the guards wouldn't notice anything. The top bricks wouldn't go back. I think the equipment placement could have been all together and earlier in the mission. Missed only 50 loot. No KOs. Enjoyed the readables but more story would be nice. The atmosphere was great. I felt like I was really there and this was a thieves den. At the same time you could tell that it used to be something else.(the library room/statue gave this away...unless they were educated thieves) I can definitely see a sequel to this mission.

FYI, I had AI issues where guards got stuck either on each other or objects. I also got stuck where I couldn't move when jumping in/on the weapons crate and moving up one of the fallen pillars. I had to reload both times and avoid moving on them.

Loved the rats as well! Though one got stuck as a thief closed the door on it and it kept running like it was trying to escape. I let it free.

I ended up doing the opposite and deleting the newer Radeon drivers and re-installing from the original disc and was able to play the mission with only a couple of minor problems. In the bunkroom on the second floor, after unlocking the last two chests they became unfrobbable.

Great little mission though Railgun, hope to see more. Thank you.

Great little mission . Some rooms where maybe a bit too blocky but textures and lights were well used.

Here's a little hint for future FMs: surfaces with big stone blocks are greatly improved with a bit bumpy geometry. This shouldn't have much impact on FPS but it will make stone corridors look more natural .

Glad to hear you liked the mission Willie.

The missions coming out over the last few days were part of the 'quick build' Christmas contest, which is why they might not always be quite so detailed, but rest assured...future missions with more time spent on them will have lots of detail.

It seems that some textures do not play well with some cards or drivers. My home PC has a newer ATI card (can't tell which), while here, I am using a Radeon 1650. I experienced no crashes at home, but Trapped! crashed on my current PC.

The same happened with my own mission; I narrowed the error down to a single texture, stone/flat/smooth/tiling_1d/marble_trim01_brown. Once I removed all instances of the texture from the FM, the crashes subsided (I still get a freeze sometimes, but they seem to be fairly rare). There may be others which have this issue - answers are probably found in this thread.

Hmmm, quite curious. Seems very odd that a texture would cause that to happen. We'll have to look into it.

I keep getting assertion failures in the file ./game/physics/clip.cpp, line 797.

Thanks for the mission. Finally won my first TDM melee fight after two guys on the top floor got stuck on each other. I killed one with an arrow and had a sword fight with the other.

When I played, any of those chests that I opened then closed became unfrobbable. The ones on the top floor didn't do this though.

this was a great mission, the "run down and re-purposed" feeling came across very well.

I got the "unfrobbable chest" issue with one in the barracks, and one of the thieves in the first room on the top floor by the blue statue repeatedly walked in tight circles like his path was broken.

kittykat, the item you're looking for should be in the head thief's bedroom, upstairs and down the hall. at least, on Easy.

    Yep, in a chest IIRC.

Can you please tell me where exactly? I have looked all over the place with no luck. There are two chests upstairs that become FrobInert after I unlock them, I hope it is not in one of them. The forced ghosting and very frequent assertion errors don't help either, the mission stopped being fun a long time ago. Thanks.

EDIT: I used an older gamex86.dll and the chests are not frobinert anymore, found the blackjack. Thanks.
