TDM FM: Business as usual (14/01/2010)

    ______________________________________________________________________________________

Have fun, Vote for the mission on the TDM forums if you liked it (or you didn't), and please read the release notes, below!

    Build Time:
5 weeks (300+ hrs, this is my first ever Fm), starting December 13th.

    Thanks:-
Huge respect to the Dark Mod team for such a great mod and for all the hard work they put into it and continue to put into it. Special thanks to Fidcal, Serpentine and others for their help on the forums and to my beta testers: Serpentine, 7upMan, StiFu, Nelson, FFox, Acolyte, Chiron and others who did an awesome job.

    Known issues:-
    # This mission will have less than optimal fps at a few points on the map.
    # Enabling bloom on low end PCs will drop off 5-10fps
    # On low end PCs I recommend, V-sync is off, AA is off, Aniso is 4x or lower.
    # Additionally, on low end PCs you may have to disable player shadow - bring up the cmd line in tdm (ctrl-alt-`) and then type the following line ' g_showPlayerShadow 0 '

    FAQs:-
    # "I cant put a book down/away" - to put a book down in tdm you simply turn away, or You can also hit your attack button

    Review's:-
Fantastic waste of 1.5 of my hours BD! A bit enclosed feeling, with little city-ish architecture to spare, but well worth it due to the great layout and gameplay style. I loved the whole idea of getting out and "taffing around" the neighborhood.
Hahaha! This is great fun. Lots of idiosyncrasies and quirkiness. Tight narrow alleys and rooms, more doors than a door shop, more nooks than a nook sale, and more crannies than a crannie convention. How can I get lost in a 5-week build FM? Oh well, got turned around a few times and almost robbed myself. Lots of interest packed into small spaces and humorous little touches abound.
This mission is completely nonlinear! The space is rather small and compact but it is all filled up. At the beginning it is even difficult to choose where to go There are many places that have no loot and no items. It makes the proper feeling that money isn't lying around in every corner.

    Business as usual

"Got a new place in the old quarter, but as the saying goes 'the more things change the more they stay the same...

...Tiss the holiday season and the first snows are upon us, bah bloody humbug. As usual there is a local thief who needs taking down a peg or two and some noble boasting about his wealth down the local tavern. Thankfully this part of town is free from the likes of the Builders, but my 'old friends' the Guardians are as usual keeping an eye on things..."

    Downloading

(Though I haven't been able to play TDM for a couple of weeks as I haven't got home from Xmas due to weather and Doom randomly froze, wants a keycheck and my serial# is back at my gaff. Tried lots of "solutions", no joy , roll on next week)

I had a permanent fix that had my fov 110% in game but installing the mission set it back to normal, how can i fix it permanately without having to type it in?

This is what i did to load the fov without adding the command to console but now it doesn't work.

[EDIT] note the format is different to doomconfig - no quote marks.

uninstall the mission, then open the business.pk4 file. You'll find an autoxec.cfg file in there, then reinstall the mission..

[update]I didnt notice until after I uploaded it, but had to replace missing items (DR is a little sob) - so I recommend everyone re-download the mission...

    heh, thanks.

I'm already building the extension for that map, so I can start a new story - sort a 'another in the series' sorta thing.

I am not sure what you want me to do. I found a autoxec.cfg opened with notepad but there is a chaos iside.
Tried to uninstall and reinstall but the 110% fov comes in when i frob and hold an object if i release it it comes back to normal 90%.

Can you describe the exact steps i must take to make it work?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. it only have one live of text in it, and secondly just delete the autoexec.cfg from the business.pk4 file. Then just copy the modified file to the fms foler in your tdm directory and play.

If you still cant get it sorted, drop me a pm with your email and I will send you a copy of the business.pk4 with the autoexec file removed.

Inside my doom folder (C:doom3/...) there is only a file "business" after uninstalling the fm.
Inside this file there is "business.pk4" which is 4.61mb in size and a complete chaos inside when opened with notepad. There are some other files like doomconfig.cfg, config.spec etc.

I am a bit confused and I am not sure what I should do.

edit: i have sent an e-mail

    wow, congrats Biker!
this is a pretty small FM, but with so many twists and turns I couldn't always tell where I was going. some very nice little touched, too, like the screaming cat outside the tavern

    some odd things I noticed:
-the diary of the noble at the hotel got stuck to my screen, I had to reload to get it off.
-there was no bedroom in the former Builder's house across from hotel?
-the metal stoves (in the hotel at least) can all be walked through.
-there were two doors I couldn't open: one by the rival thief's new hideout, and one past the sewer stairs door. or were they the same door?

very good start! although some rooms are very small and narrow, it looks like a real city in general. There are many doors, ways at the begining of mission, and they confused me on choosing my path. That's the kind of mission I like. Finished all objectives in one hour, but it'll be better if there was a hint for hidden chest's key (maybe I didn't see). thanks!

I laugh very hard on "thief fidcal" btw

    door?
    • some people have been having issue with the readables, its partly myfault and will be fixed in the version.
    • yeah my fault again, forgot to un-noclip them.
    • there is a key to both doors, you just have to read the thiefs journal and have a look around his hideout for the other key
    ..
