Want to play or make a Dark Mod Fan Mission? Start here.

If you just want to play Dark Mod FMs then you need a Doom 3 installation (search for a cheap copy) then go here http://www.thedarkmod.com/

If you want to make a Dark Mod Fan Mission then you must presumably already have Doom3 installed and played a few of the existing FMs. If not, see here: http://www.thedarkmod.com/

To begin with you need a game editor and, no contest, you want Dark Radiant, professional but completely free: http://darkradiant.sourceforge.net/

Next you should follow the simple A to Z guide to make your very first tiny demo FM to get the basics: http://modetwo.net/darkmod/wiki/inde..._Start_Here%21

After that you are good to go to start making your first real FM. To make this easier, it is recommended that you use Startpack. This is is a set of components to start any Dark Mod map with all you need to both start and finish your FM packed ready to share. This leaves you free to focus on the fun part - building: http://modetwo.net/darkmod/wiki/inde...ppers%27_Guide

And of course, the complete Dark Mod wiki is there for reference with
    An editing section: http://modetwo.net/darkmod/wiki/inde...tegory:Editing
    A Dark Radiant section: http://modetwo.net/darkmod/wiki/inde...ry:DarkRadiant
Including a Dark Radiant must know intro: http://modetwo.net/darkmod/wiki/inde...ow_Basic_Intro
And a complete guide to all Dark Radiant controls: http://modetwo.net/darkmod/wiki/inde...k_Radiant_Keys
    Need help? Go to: http://modetwo.net/darkmod/index.php...editors-guild/

Finally, when you've made your FM, you'll need to get some guys to test play it before going public. I recommend you get a private forum here: http://shalebridgecradle.co.uk

    Good luck! And enjoy!

Excellent collection of information for new mappers, Fidcal! I recommend this post get stickied, at least until (and if) a more general "TDM Editor's FAQ" type thread gets made.

Thanks Yandros - yes if anyone thinks of anything else that should go in there I'll add it to that first post. I just dashed it off quickly.

    Maybe also add something like:
If you have any questions about editing, you can either check out the TDM Editors Guild in the Dark Mod Forums, which already contains a huge amount of technical knowledge or just post in the Editing-Questions thread.

A thread like that would of course have to be opened here.

Dunno, Dark Mod forums (and/or the mods there) are dysfunctional. I registered there about a month ago, and I am still in a "no posting" mode, despite trying all reasonable ways to resolve that -- like resending the activation code and sending messages to the mods.

This seems to be a common complaint as of late WRT Thief-related message boards:

    Interesting.

I didn't receive any messages about this. What's your screen name at the Dark Mod forums?

    CheeseshireCat, as usual.

I was sending e-mails to addresses listed in admins profiles, not PMs there, as I *can't* send a PM due to the same permissions problem.

There is no account with that name. Are we talking about the same forum (http://modetwo.net/darkmod)?

Yes, we are. Maybe they expire or something, though it seems to be pretty quick -- I last tried on April, 5th. If that helps, user ID was 3737 and the validation key was exactly the same the few times I re-requested validation link.

Might be the modetwo issue, though, as I had a registration problem with at least one other forum located there.

Sorry, that user ID is not known to the forum.

The newest user registered on April 25th, so that forum feature is not broken or something. Please try registering again.

Just did. Same crap. "You cannot reply to this topic", "You cannot start a new topic", &c.

(When I use either the auto validation link or the manual validation link, I am sent to main forum page, so it could be that validation fails -- but I can log in/out, etc.)

I can see your account now, I'll manually approve it, so it should work in a minute.

    Can't load saved game

I can start a game and play until I get kiilled without concern. When I go to load a saved game just before it looks like it's ready to play I get an error message saying DOOM 3 encountered a problem. Is there a fix for this? Am I the only one having this concern?

Dell dimension 8800, pentium 4, Win XP SP3, gb ram, nvidia 7800GS video

    Thanks,

    Rich

    Win 7 64bit

Does the Dark Mod work with the 64 bit version of Win 7... The patched Doom 3 works beautifully. I just can't get TDM to work at all. I read on some post that 64 bit Linux needs some kind of 32 bit libraries. Where would I find those for Win7 ?
