TDM FM: The Caduceus of St. Alban: Vertical FM Contest entry: Aug 24th, 2010

    Morning Taffers!

My entry for the Great Summer Vertical FM Contest:

    Game play:

    Download links:-
    - SkyDrive
    - Filefront

    Intro:
As usual it's the end of the week and I'm down my local tavern, enjoying the charms of Jessica... I make gratuitous remarks about the size of her, juggs and she assertion's on the size of my, blackjack.... I thought my luck was in, that was untill we were interrupted... Some taffer in a drunken stupor managed to knock my ale, all over Jess. That put Jess in a right mood, which meant my blackjack and I would be sleeping alone that night..."

    Build Time:
2 months, starting Middle of June.

    Thanks:-
Huge respect to the Dark Mod team for such a great mod and for all the hard work they put into it and continue to put into it. Special thanks to Fidcal, Serpentine and others for their help on the forums and to my beta testers: Jdude, Fids, Serps, Grayman, nbohr1more, Melan and others who did an awesome job.

    Info:
    # Like Thief, some things that look climable are. Also most of the keys in the mission can be dropped. Oh and do explore, you wont be able to escape unless u do..
    # Due to TDM being a lot more of a resource hog than T2 I have been forced to limit the number of Ai in the mission, this unfortunately means some players wont feel challanged, sorry but that's the way it is.
    # On Expert the player starts with no weapons - if you think your a master thief then you don't need any. There are weapons to be found, but they are for other purposes.

    Known issues:-
    # This mission will have less than optimal fps at a few points on the map.
    # On low end PCs I recommend, V-sync is off, AA is off, Aniso is 4x or lower and that any and all background apps are closed.

    Voting:-
Please go over to the thread on the darkmod forum.

    update:

I have updated the mission to fix the following bugs:
    # fixed corrupt brushed giving node warning in console.
    # fixed floating geode.
    # the impassable tunnel.
    # the light source on the wall gate
    # move one of the wall guards to the guard hut.
    # corrected the inner vault door, (should have been unpickable to begin with)
    # removed pointless optional objective (blame jdude, his idea to add it in the first place, lol)
    # missing door from cell block.

This is a great FM, with superb visuals and a distinctive T1/T2 feel. Don't miss out on this one.
    Thanks a lot Biker!

Love to have it on thiefmissions, but as usual, none of the horrible free download sites works for me.

    Found it elsewhere. http://thiefmissions.com/info.cgi?m=CaduceusOfStAlban

As a lot of people complained about it not being hard enough, I will be releasing an update for it, but this will be for people with higher end machines as it will include more Ai etc. This was down to the simple economics of performance, more Ai equals less frame rate. one of my testers on a AMD 3500+ and a Geforce 7150 was only getting 6-10fps in some area's with the mission as it is..

I played the earlier mission version with the impassable tunnel. Is there any way to use my savegame from that (I had done everything except leave) with the new fixed version of the mission? I tried what I thought should work and got an error/crash. All I want to do is end the mission. Is the cave the end?

    Artifact ?

I love the views, especially looking down from the top of the water tower & the lay out is great, but that's why I need some help... The castle has too many places to go...again... Can someone point me in the right direction of the artifact? I've killed everybody, but ALL the doors won't stay open so it's hard to plot any courses

that is a really cool preview shot, I'm impatiently downloading now!
why does the title say "August 8th 2010" if the first posts are today (the 24th)?

The artifact is in the lower basement, in a vault behind two metal doors and a guard post You will need a key from the high priest's bedroom, which is on the top floor of the central tower. The HP is carrying the key to the bedroom.

I would have thought so, but if you cant be bother to go through it all again, Just noclip through it.
Just press (ctrl-alt-`) the (`) key is just the left of the number 1 key. This will bring up the doom3 console and then type noclip . But be aware use no clip mode with caution, when in noclip mode you will be able to fly into the void, so will be able to view the whole map = very low fps.

    no weapons ?

Edudrekib, this look like a nice mission.

A very annoying bug though, I have to launch the fm 4 times (more or less) before I can have any weapons!
Even after a second install of the fm.
It's the first time it happens to me.

(2 more small things: a framerate that dropped to 4 3 2 1 0 fps when exiting the chapel through east door, and a door handle floating in the air at the entrance of the cellblock)

I've just checked the latest version and it works fine.

Ive only seen this happen once, and none of my tester mentioned it so it must be a bug.

uninstall the mission, restart TDM and then re-install.

I was about to remark on the floating door handles in the jail, but it seems those have been noticed.
I had a crash to desktop while trying to pick the prison guard's pocket, but a second try was successful.
I'm now stuck in the cave under the prison; I can't climb the side of the vines closest to the ledge, and can't make the jump because of the stalactite. any advice?
also, can I have a clearer hint on the key to the artifact? I've been all over the priests' quarters, roof, and top towers, but can't find it.

thank you, Bikerdude, this is a cool outpost!

Wow, there are weapons in this mission! I played two versions and didn't have any until I tried the above. I just thought it was some kind of ghosting mission.

On a bookcase or shelf near the door [in the priest's room] as I recall there is a jewellery or cash box. You have to lockpick it and the key to the chest is inside.

Figured I'd report my latest bugs. Had to uninstall/install 3 times before I had weapons this time, then had another big bug appear. Blackjacked the first guard near the start, then went to get the guy patrolling the wall and even though I can select weapons, they don't show up on screen (except the sword, which does the pull-out animation then goes away) and are unusable. Loaded up Business As Usual and they all worked normally.

I DID reinstall, but still get weapons randomly.

Also the journal of St Alban in the vault gives a "loot" picture in the inventory and not a "book", and is not readable when used

    nice mission

I enjoy playing this one, a nice looking mission you´ve built Bikerdude , i liked the skybox with the sunset side, also the tower and other areas are nicely done, just a few narrow in some places, but apart from that you´ve created a beautifull hammerite closteir

    I´m looking foward for more.

Love the design of the whole mission
