    install.cfg reads:

    ;cd_path F:\
    install_path C:\Thief2
    language english
    resname_base C:\Thief2\res+C:\Thief2\res
    load_path C:\Thief2+C:\Thief2
    script_module_path C:\Thief2+C:\Thief2
    movie_path C:\Thief2\movies+C:\Thief2\movies

    darkinstall.cfg reads:

    ;cd_path .\
    install_path .\
    language english
    resname_base .\res+.\
    load_path .\+.\
    script_module_path .\+.\
    movie_path .\movies+\.movies

    darkinstallREAL.cfg reads:

    cd_path E:\thief2\disk 2\
    install_path C:\Program Files\Thief2
    language english
    resname_base C:\Program Files\Thief2\res+E:\thief2\disk 2\thief2
    load_path C:\Program Files\Thief2+E:\thief2\disk 2\thief2
    script_module_path C:\Program Files\Thief2+E:\thief2\disk 2\thief2
    movie_path C:\Program Files\Thief2\movies+E:\thief2\disk 2\thief2\movies

As for dromed I get the following message when clicking on the shortcut:

    Error

Trying to use thief 2 extensions, but the exe version is incompatible

I replaced the broken CD Thief.exe with the one you linked to.

P.S. the above pic was originally screenshot1.BMP, because all the screenDUMPS.pcx I took came out completely hot pink.

EDIT: hang on, I just changed DDFix.ini to "1" for extensions. Dromed is working now, I'll see what it looks like.

EDIT: dromed working now, objects are rendering PROPERLY in dromed, just not in Thief.exe

Somehow something got mixed up as I can see. Do not worry about that, we can fix it. Just tell me, what's the real path the game is installed in?

    C:\Program Files\Thief2
    or
    C:\Thief2

    ?

So the darkinst.cfg should read like this

    ;cd_path E:\thief2\disk 2\
    install_path C:\Program Files\Thief2
    language english
    resname_base C:\Program Files\Thief2\res+C:\thief2\disk 2\thief2
    load_path C:\Program Files\Thief2+C:\thief2\disk 2\thief2
    script_module_path C:\Program Files\Thief2+C:\thief2\disk 2\thief2
    movie_path C:\Program Files\Thief2\movies+C:\thief2\disk 2\thief2\movies

    install.cfg like this

    ;cd_path F:\
    install_path C:\Program Files\Thief2
    language english
    resname_base C:\Program Files\Thief2\res+C:\Thief2\res
    load_path C:\Program Files\Thief2+C:\Thief2
    script_module_path C:\Program Files\Thief2+C:\Thief2
    movie_path C:\Program Files\Thief2\movies+C:\Thief2\movies

9.4 works well but only with DDFix ver. 1.1 for me.

I think you'll have to reinstall the game. Don't use the hack this time. Full installation with Tafferpatcher (old version 0.6 http://www.southquarter.com/downloads/TafferPatcher.exe). Edit user.cfg (skip_starting_checks) and darkinst.cfg (";"). Put the game in C:\T2 or something like that. It's always bad to have long paths

I recommend to use catalyst 9.3 or 9.4

    Hi Fib,
Followed all this exactly, including installing Catalyst 9.3. Worse than how far we had gotten. Now after the objective screen, I choose start and a dark screen, a pause and "Thief blablab has encountered a problem and needs to shut down.....blaubalbau SEND---- DON'T SEND

Still as ever though, I can load up miss1 in dromed and play without crash and the vine decals and bunkbeds render properly.

You're talking about new rig/old rig. Is this a multicore/hyperthreading issue then? Please post more informations. You can also use Tafferpatcher on your "old rig" (which is probably single core)

You can always patch thief2.exe with image.cfg (Tafferpatcher actually should fix that already but you never know)
    http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/hyperthreading/
same goes for a multcore-fix like FlipTIB
    http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127533

Since Tafferpatcher 0.6 has ddfix v. 1.4.4. (which worked well for most people), it might be the wrong version for your system.
    Older versions are available here

The "old" rig is the much older rig. This rig is still old. Both are single core processors.

just to keep this in the minds of those who may be able to reason out the problem, why does Thief.exe crash, but the game run and render fine through Dromed?

Does the shortcut have the 'working directory' set ?
If it is not set or you try to launch the Thief-exe from another directory then the install-folder, it will crash.

OK gnartsch! You're on to something good I think! When I started Thief2 from the exe in the program folder, it ran and rendered fine.

I just created a shortcut from there and dragged it to my desktop. It almost crashed, but ran without the decals showing at the beginning, so I know the rendering problem is throughout.

So please tell me, what steps do I take to get a well running shortcut on my desktop?

The easiest way would be as follows:
Rightclick on Thief2.exe (keep the right button pushed) and drag it to some random place
(to the desktop or to some blank spot in the folder).
Release the right button and Windows will show a menu, where you can choose 'Create shortcut here'.
Like this for sure the 'Working folder' will be set as well.
Now you can move the new shortcut whereever you want it to be (e.g. to the Desktop)

As an alternative: rightclick the shortcut you had already and select 'Properties'.
Not sure if this looks all the same for all Windows versions, but below the line that shows the name & path to Thief2.exe (e.g. E:\Games\Thief2\Thief2.exe)
there should be a line reading like 'Execute in' or 'Work directory'.
Make sure that the path to the install dir is shown there (e.g. E:\Games\Thief2)

Not sure if it was just a fluke, or if it was because I loaded the game just previously in Dromed, but running direct from the folder makes no difference once again. Only Dromed renders properly. Man, this is getting old...

Somebody on the german forums got the same problem: DromEd worked, T2 didn't or rendered badly.
So she changed the settings of her video card (Radeon HD 4200)

    Standard Settings: Use custom settings
    Anti-Aliasing: Level 4x, Filter Wide-tent (8x)
    Adaptive Anti-Aliasing: Enable Adaptive Anti-Aliasing
    Anisotropic Filtering: 16x
    Minimap Detaillevel: Performance (2.Position)
    It worked

Just wondered if there was any progress on this, I'd love to see that 97% FM released.
