Remove the semicolon in front of the string and edit the path to point to your texture replacement folder. For your setup, it should look like this:

    TexturePath=c:\games\ThiefG\RES\ddfix\

I have tried using ver 1.5.11 but when I try to start the game with my own patched thief.exe, the game doesn't start at all
It's probably because you have the widescreen mod installed. DDFix 1.5.11 is not compatible with it as it makes all widescreen rendering by itself. So you need an .exe file that was not modified by widescreen to work with ddfix 1.5.11.

Thanks, for the suggestion. I tried it and no luck. Would it be anything to do with the fact that the water textures folder in the folder ddfix folder is called t2water? I have tried renaming it to water, twater, tgwater, t1water and waterhw but I still just get the PCX textures rather than the DDS ones.

OK, that certainly makes sense. I do have the widescreen mod installed. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I did download the pre-patched exe that is supposed to work with 1.5.11 but when I ran it, it just kept prompting me to insert my CD#2 (even when it was in the drive).

Anyway, getting the replacement water would just be a "nice to have". At present, I can get the original water graphics and if that's all I can get, then so be it. It looks acceptable to me anyway.

If you have any more suggestions I'll gladly try them out but, if not, thanks for trying to help anyway.

new version (1.02). added workaround for hdradeon+winxp, made sure TGfix is compatible with the GOG release of thief gold.

I think it's time to look for a decent installer.

Nice work. I'd be happy to rig up an installer for it, but last time I approached Inno Setup with the idea of doing something like this, I put a handgun in my plan's mouth when I saw that scripting it would require writing Pascal and pulled the trigger.

I could take a look into doing something with Windows Installer, time permitting.

basically, it's a collection of fixes and improvements for thief gold. it should allow anyone to run thief gold on a modern computer with minimum effort. in the latest version, I have added an older version of ddfix that will allow users of hd radeon cards and windows xp to run the game (as the standard version of ddfix does not work with this combination of hardware and software).

use it.. or not. as always, the choice is yours.

Does this apply for T2 as well? I haven't been able to run it since I switched to a Radeon card last summer. If so, which version of DDFix should I look for?

yes it does. tafferpatcher has the option to use ddfix1.5.5, which addresses this issue. the last "oldschool" release (no widescreen support, runs on linux and hd radeons under xp) should be 1.5.6.

fixed. forgot to update the link after I threw in some custom WASD key config by ZB.

    TY

EDIT: Okay I downloaded the file and followed instructions, but any widescreen resolution set in cam.cfg crashes Thief.exe. 800x600 1280x1024 etc work fine.

EDIT: Also it could just be this horrible Intel integrated graphics as it has like only 1 MB of dedicated and 8 MB of system memory to play with.

yeah, that's probably it - ddfix assumes at least a bit decent graphics card, and an 8MB intel will not cut the job.

you should just use the default thief renderer, that one should work fine (you will have to reinstall the game if you did not back up your thief exe).

Worked for Windows 7 with widescreen and Thief Gold! Thanks to the OP. Will make notes if any problems show up.

    Thanks again!

I'll have a look, and if I can integrate it, I'll probably do it, the readme looks promising.

It would definitely be a good thing. Back when that patch was first introduced I don't recall anybody having anything bad to say about it. It's literally just Looking Glass's original textures at a higher color depth.

Playing through the unmodded GOG version of Thief, I'd forgotten how cartoony some of those original 256-color textures were. The Keeper training level is possibly the tackiest thing in the entire series.

turns out it fits in nicely, no conflicts at all. expect the 1.04 to pop up soon (going to run around some levels to make sure). the lava is great, finally looks like lava and not something from doom or heretic.

Hi, guys! It`s my first post here on the forums and I don`t want to come up with stupid questions, but I`m curios about one thing: why don`t the other fixes for T2 like t2_skies, Gas Arrow Model Fix, Vine Arrow Model Fix work for TG as well? I thought that both having the same game engine, they should fit in.

Also, this tafferpatcher is one awesome tool, great job with it!

T2 uses an advanced version of the Dark Engine. Thief Gold's engine does not even have the framework for processing a lot of T2 elements.

Also Thief 1/Gold doesn't even have vine arrows.

As well as coloured lighting, and even more T2 elements.
