    in readme_hdxp.txt

    you said
-the hand model will look a bit weird. no way around this for now.
did you check "Character Detail" ingame option?

my acquaintance solves weird hand model trouble by just set the Character Detail to High.
but he didn't used your tgfix, i just teach him as my install way.

and have you see this thread?
    http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthrea...36#post1687640

    in your tgfix install.cfg
    you set resname_base to
    resname_base .\mods+.\mods\EP\Thief1+.\mods\EP+.\res
but you should check that thread,
you can see resname_base arrange is different from yours.
as that thread, load EP first, and rest later.
i guess there are reason why set that so.

not .\mods first as your tgfix install.cfg
i think it should be EP first, and .\mods later

    sorry for my bad english
i hope it should improves your stuff.

-the radeonhd_xp hand model not displaying correctly is caused by a bug in the hand rendering. there is no way how to fix this if you are using ddfix 1.5.6 (latest stable version for hradeon+xp users).

-the install.cfg works exactly like I want it to. IT rule no. 1: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Great work with the sky in "Break from Cragscleft Prison", it looks actually nice

Regarding kokobollo's suggestion about resname_base field in install.cfg, I have a small question: right now, do the textures look like in the 5th picture of the indicated thread http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthrea...36#post1687640 ? Because right now all those patches are included in this tafferpatcher and I`m curious if it really doesn`t make a difference how resname_base is written. Again, I`m just asking

there is ton of issues with the hand models - it took me quite a while to get them looking the way I wanted to (and they are still far from perfect. the only real solution here it to make a new model essentially from a scratch, but I lack skills for that). the install.cfg makes sure that everything is loaded correctly from the giant mess of files in the "mods" folder.

Thank you voodoo47, this package is great!

I will offer two problems I experienced and the workarounds I used.

    1) Even using the RadeonHD fix, my PC would not start the game with the supplied patch executable.

Workaround: I had to use the "Thief Gold: Nvidia 5x.xx Driver Fix":

    http://www.thief-thecircle.com/download.asp?fid=727

    ( I have a ATI Radeon HD4650 AGP)

That fix requires that I manually set the processor affinity in the Task Manager. A small price to pay
but I wish that the affinity fix was also included.

    2) The new water renders as lines.

    Workaround:

I had to delete all the new water sub-directories in RES (etc) and now I've got original Thief Gold water.

Altogether this is still a helluva package

    1) affinity fix is included (ddfix). by using the nvidia fix, you are bypassing ddfix completely, but if that gets it running, well, ok..

    2) water will not work with ddfix disabled.

    That's odd?

Perhaps it's placebo but Bloom is working and I presume DDFIX is
    required for that?

Also the resolution changing from DDFIX GUI works as expected (though I admit that may
    just be Cam config changes).

I had DDFIX working with a fresh install but after installing Dark Loader I was getting CTD errors as soon as I launched Thief. Removing DDFIX resolved that problem but left me limited to 800x600 resolution and Software Rendering. I applied the Nvidia fix and was able to launch properly then applied DDFIX and it seemed to acknowledge DDFIX.ini changes...

I would probably try the reverse order (install Dark Loader then DDFIX ) but I'm not in the mood to upset the apple cart at the moment...

I've uploaded a copy and pm'd you a download link. I'd put it here but it's only good for a couple of weeks and I'd forget to come back and delete it. Hope it works for you.

Thank you for going to the trouble to help me. I did download the file and I do have the game up and running. I got through the training sessions and onto Lord Balford's mission. The game runs smoothly and I am a happy camper.
I don't think I have done the Tafferpatcher correctly yet though. Using the 2 new icons to start the game don't quite work. They both give me a small window. I do get the message that I need to upgrade Directx to 6 so I think I didn't do something right. However the game runs well with the original icon and I am ok with how it is. I am not crashing at this point.
I do thank everyone that gave me help I couldn't have gotten this far without you all.

yeah, the dreaded dx message. basically, you should never see it, unless ddfix fails to work for some reason. make sure you are not running the game from program files or some other protected location, and that you have really copied all the files according to the readme. posting your full system specs might help as well.

I used the original game icon as a shortcut on my desktop running it right out of the Thief folder. In that folder is the TGfix 1.06 folder, which contains the movecrf batch file. When I dbl click on it from within that folder I get this:

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\bitmap.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\books.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\default.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\editor.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\fam.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\intrface.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\mesh.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\motions.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\obj.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\pal.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\snd.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\strings.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>pause
Press any key to continue . . .

And if I move the batch file to the Thief folder I get this
    :
    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\bitmap.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\books.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\default.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\editor.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\fam.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\intrface.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\mesh.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\motions.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\obj.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\pal.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\snd.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>move ".\strings.crf" ".\REs\"
The system cannot find the file specified.

    D:\Thief\tgfix1.06>pause
Press any key to continue . . .

The Res folder has a DDfix folder and that has 2 other folders a Fam and t2water folder. This is why I say I know I didn't do something right but I thought I followed the readme down the line. Still the game is running ok.

    Hi !
The obvious problem is that there should be no tgfix1.06 folder at all.
The entire content (or at least the part you want to be replaced) of that directory should have gone right into D:\Thief
But indeed you have not done anything wrong. The problem is that the ZIP comes with that irritating subfolder already.

so.... move everything from D:\Thief\tgfix1.06 into D:\Thief and run the batch file again.

    Code:
    1) extract the contents of the archive to your TG folder, overwrite old files (if you want the old look without all the hires mods, do not copy over "mods" and "res" folders).
    2) run movecrf.bat (moves all original thief crfs to the RES folder. all orginal crfs MUST be in the RES folder for things to work properly). GOG edition should already have the crfs at the proper place (but double check to be sure).
    3) edit cam.cfg and modify game_screen_size line to reflect the resolution you want (the default is set to 1024 768). do NOT do this if you are running hdradeon card under winxp-see readme_hdxp.txt in the hdradeon_winxp folder.
The instructions say to extracte the entire content of the ZIP into your Thief folder, but this is obviously wrong.
What it really is trying to say is to move the content of the tgfix1.06 folder into your Thief folder.

Man I am glad there is such a great group of followers for this game. I did what you suggested and the game runs good. No more Directx6 message just straight to the game. Thanks

will remove the subfolder in the next version to avoid this.

Have you considered creating an installer to automate the process (e.g. using something like NSIS)? It could avoid ambiguities and people count choose which enhancements to install.

yes I did, and even had a look at one or two, but it looked way too complicated for me (my skills in this field are below average I'm afraid). I will try to figure it out when my exams are over.
