Ok, I tried the demo and it works fine. I tried disabling my antivirus, checked that the Thief folder was unprotected, but it still crashes...
hmm.. doesn't seems like anything is wrong. make sure you are not running the game from program files or some other protected location (and that your install was not read only when you updated. some antivirus might have interfered as well during the install). and try running the T1 demo, if it runs, we can rule out a renderer/3D issue immediately. also, there should be a crash.dmp, post that well if possible.
//also, added the fixed T2 binds, and updated the package silently.

are all original crfs in the RES folder (12 files)? post the contents of your install.cfg. that crash dump would be useful as well.
I don't know where to find the crash dump, but here's my install.cfg
Code:;cd_path .\ install_path .\ language english resname_base .\mods+.\mods\EP\Thief1+.\mods\EP+.\patches+.\res load_path .\ script_module_path .\ movie_path .\movies
Oh and my crf's are in the CRF's folder, not Res. I think it's because Darkloader moved them when it optimized it.
yup, that's your problem right there. TFix assumes a fresh Thief install. can't do much with a customized one. anyway, in this case, simply changing "res" into "CRF's" (or whatever place your crfs are located) in the install.cfg should fix your problem.
maybe I should add some popup that would warn about missing/incorrect crf location during the install. perhaps in 1.13 (lucky number).
Alright, it works now, thanks so much![]()
A suggestion for the next version: could you integrate the new Water texture by Vurt? Maybe you could let the player choose between this new texture and the "old" water texture.
will consider it, but right now, the water is work in progress, so let's wait 'till vurt says "it's done" first. then we'll see. and even after that, there are things to consider, for example minimum system requirements - a hires animated NewDark texture might move them up a notch, and I'm not sure whether I want that, TFix is meant as a simple patcher for people who "just want to run Thief nicely, like they used to all those years ago" (seems like quite a big part of users turn off even those few VERY conservative enhancements that are included), and don't really care about the hires HD fancy stuff. and can't deny that I agree with them to a certain degree - I also like my Thief a bit rough around the edges, I'm, after all, a very oldschool and conservative person. the line I'm not really willing to cross lies just one step beyond the T2 textures from oRGy's pack.
but I will make sure all the uber hd pack that are coming will be compatible, and installable with as little hassle as possible.
I absolutely understand your arguments. Itīs still called "Fix" because itīs for solving Problems and not for eye candy. But I like the "all-in-one" solution you offer. Because of your Patch I donīt need to manually install lots of Fixes and graphical Enhancements and thatīs what makes your programm so valuable for me. I want my Thief to look as good as possible with the smallest amount of work. One setup of TFix and everything works fine and looks good (Same goes for the great Tafferpatcher).
hi!
is there a separate download link for TGsky somewhere? If not, which files from 7-zip extracted TFix setup file do I need and how to apply it? Do I have to patch .mis files (like in T2skies)?
Also, there are plans to make a version of TFix for Thief 2 (TFix2)? I know there's Tafferpatcher (and no disrespect etc intended of course), but I think TFix for T2 would be nice to have as well (as it appears to contain some nice unique fixes/improvements, and besides has more frequent releases/quicker development cycle). Or, maybe just join forces (Tfix2 and Tafferpatcher) for 1 ultimate patch/fix/mod tool for T2? What do you think?
1) if you mean the static hires sky (the one that was included in the ddfix version of TFix as well), look for patches/fam.crf (the pngs inside is what you want). with NewDark, no patching is required, they are just straight drop-in replacements.
2) no plans of doing T2 - as I said before, there is no need. Tafferpatcher does the job nicely, and also contains a lot of unique fixes - much more than TFix, actually. the releases are more frequent, because I'm just one guy, and (big) bugs slip in way too easily. anyway, 1.12 seems to be holding up fine, and that's good, 'cause school has already started, and that means much less time for fun projects.
3) 1 combined patch(er) is a bad idea, for many reasons. one game, one patcher is the smart way of doing things.
1) I meant/thought TGsky was an equivalent to t2skies for T2 from http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131652 . Can I use t2skies in T1/TG, somehow (it seems to require .mis files patching, originally)? Or any way to make T1/TG sky look like in T2 with t2skies (or like in 1.19 Bafford HD demo map)?
3) I didn't mean 1 patcher for both games - only to combine (hypothetical) TFix2 (for T2 only) and Tafferpatcher to make 1 T2-only ultimate patcher with unique fixes/mods from both. Tfix for T1/TG would be still standalone and left alone.
ps have you tried reprocessing lightmaps in 32-bit with 1.19 Dromed (for T1/TG, and T2 as well)? Any BEFORE and AFTER screens? Is performance hit big? (I also asked about it here: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthrea...=1#post2146642 ).
1) the NewDark version of TFix contains dynamic T2 skies, as I was able to copy&paste the system used in the upgraded baffords demo. It seems that you can control the dynamic skies and other resources via the dml system, without hard-patching it into the mis file (currently experimenting with it some more). the dml from the demo is quite large, and I'm not going to pretend I understand everything, but most of the stuff there is pretty self explanatory (like alpha, or moon texture), and can be changed without issues, as long as you feed it the resources (from T2 skies package). tried messing with other values as well, but all I got was funky colors, so I left it be (that's why all the dynamic skies currently installed by TFix are so identical, they are basically just one file copied all over the place. but hey, better identical than none at all). maybe the guys over at TEG can figure out more.
2) I've already made some textures and other stuff available to the Tafferpatcher guys, it's upon them whether they will use 'em or not. it's just some tiny stuff though, remember, I'm NOT a modder, I'm just good with my copy&paste (and analyzing resources. I do that for a living, actually - data/error analysis, copy paste the relevant stuff, send to the next team).
3) tried to relight some T1 missions, but they did not turn out too well, I assume I'm screwing something up (never really touched a game editor before, and dromed is not an easy one, people keep saying). had more luck with T2, I've even posted a video somewhere. you just type build_dlg to the editor command window (see the docs), select what you want to do, relight and save the new mission. the performance impact is not big, but if you are running on some older integrated hw that was barely fast enough to play the original missions, the reprocessed ones may slow you down just enough to make the game unplayable (this is true for my hp dc7700). if you have a dedicated gpu less than 5 years old, you have nothing to fear, I would say (unless it's something ultra low budget, those suck at pretty much everything 3D).
Hello everyone!
I got an Avast! Trojan hit when scanning TFix_1.12.exe.
thieffon.exe; Severity - High; Status - Threat: Win32: Downloader-QJN [Trj]
This was yesterday, after scanning the file I found on Google from the beginning of this thread. Is this a false positive? I haven't seen anyone else complaining about this but I'm awful leery of Greeks bearing gifts.

It's a false positive on Font Tool by Telliamed which is a part of DromEd Toolkit. I've sent them a report about it, linked to the page on thiefmissions.com where it can be downloaded along with the source, but seems like they don't give a taff.
correct, that is indeed a false positive, just as DJ Riff said. don't install the editor, if you want to keep your antivirus happy.
Thank you for the quick replies and helpful advice.
I just bought the Thief trilogy combo pack and I wanted to get the most from it on this newer system. I bought the original Thief in the truncated pyramid box before "Gold" came out and my Thief II got a little scratched up when the kids were younger. Now I'll have new Thief missions to look forward to before THI4F gets moving again!
Ahh... I remember playing this game as a kid, and never understanding how to play it correctly without always sword fighting with the guards. Good times.
The fix works like a charm, and I've done level design/development and am dipping in to modeling as it is, so I think I might explore the DromEd you packaged with the fix. Thanks!
once the game is installed and patched, go to options/customize controls, click load and load the "Thief classic" control set.
Sorry one more question...
What exactly is TFix changing in the gamesys file? I cant find a complete changelog here and there is no readme in the download.
Iam want to run this together with the Ultimate Difficulty mod, is there a way to do this without problems?
EDIT: Well i just noticed that the Ultimate Difficulty Mod is not a gamesys file but a dark.gam file. Is TFix changing this file too?

dark.gam IS the gamesys, and yeah, TFix changes that, and as a result, a TFixed install of Thief is not compatible with any other gamesys mods. the custom gamesys fixes a lot of things, but no readme is available. there is a way how to make this work, but for that, I would need a dif (or what exactly has been modified) of the difficulty mod. then the changes could be moved into a dml, that would in return, add those changes into the custom TFix gamesys. I'll look around and see what I can do, but don't expect the results tomorrow.
