Sorry for seeming overly emotional about that last night, I had a serious headache going on (still do) and I can be one cranky doofus when it gets bad.

    I literally did a face/palm when I re-read what I wrote today.

But yes, I do believe that tomb should be a bit closer to the original color scheme. That tomb is one of my favorite levels, you could paint any one of the manors all kinds of different colors and I wouldn't mind one bit, but that tomb is HOLY to me lol.

After my rant last night though, I wouldn't blame you if you made it tutti fruti just to tic me off... sorry!

When I click on that link I get an on access scan alert for a trojan virus... not sure if it's legit.

Do you really believe Gecko wants to infect your computer?

I just saw the discussion here and downloaded the alternative "bigblock"... As chance would have it, the bonehoard is my next level.

I guess, I agree. Have to play the mission first. But keeping it close to the original sounds always good.

By the way, Gecko, thank you very much for this awesome mod and all your hard work. Vielen, vielen Dank!

But another thing: There are still a lot of objects floating in mid air. I guess the floating bodies are still the problem of new dark, right? But floating loot and floating barrels ( )... can really break the immersion for a moment. You may fix that in your future updates.

    @ Kronox

    no problem it's okay.

    @ Another_Taffer

    which version do you use?

have you installed patch 0.9.2? That should fix most of the "flying" objects!

can you post a screenshot? so i can fix it then...

No I don't think he is trying to infect my computer, that's why I said I don't think its legit. I meant I don't think the threat is legit, not the file. I should've been more clear. Just made me nervous because I am on my work computer.

Gecko, since I am at work, and I am literally crawling out of my seat with eagerness to see the new color of the big block texture but am stuck here for several more hours, was wondering if you could post a screenshot of it in use in the level.

I know, I have the patience of a rabid hamster on crack...... sorry!

It should be the patch version 0.9.2, yes.

I was looking at some screenshots of the Halls of Echoing Repose in their original old pixelated glory and noticed that there was indeed a little pinkishness in the the stones of that big block texture...

The stones looked as if they were painted and the paint was rotting off. pinkish fading to off-white with gray stone showing around the edges.

Perhaps I just remembered the gray more? I re-installed your original texture, it may be a bit red for my tastes but I suppose that is more accurate than having no color at all.

    http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guide...pel/Bonehoard/

One actual potential problem I found in the level.. The door that leads to the Mystic Heart cannot be opened... That is why I went to that guide as I thought I knew how to get to it but couldn't find a way. The door in the back of the crypt leading to it cannot be interacted with.

One other thing.. where can I donate.. this has to take a lot of work and to be honest... I would rather fling five to 10 dollars at something as glorious as this to keep a masterpiece looking GREAT than pay for a lot of the crap games coming out today (at 60 dollars a pop no less even if digitally downloaded, no production cost as in hard copies but the price doesn't drop?)

Kinda wondering Gecko, are you the same person that did that awesome retexturing of the original Quake in the Darkplaces mod a few years back? I see a similar level of awesomeness.

This is only possible on the difficulty "expert"

    I'm surprised to hear that.
But yes...over three years of work...
    Thank you!

regarding vsync - yeah, a lot of physics stuff is tied to the frame/refresh rate, and will not work properly when you disable it. for example, jumping will get weird. so unless you want to experiment or achieve something very specific, you better leave it alone. if you really need more than 60Hz/FPS, see update timings in cam_ext.cfg, those settings should allow you to have correct physics with vsync/frame capping disabled.

The problem is that the HD mod, in certain places with extensive fire effects, makes the framerate drop way below 60FPS. So the last thing you mentioned sounds very interesting. Can you say exactly how the update timings should be modified to have correct physcis without vsync?

just read the description/documentation. I assume that disabling vsync and enabling phys_freq 60 should/would have the desired effect (some framerate capping would be advisable though, you don't want to jump to 400FPS at certain places suddenly).

the fire effects are probably slow because of a) too many particles, and b) using bitmap particles with a very hires texture. as soon as this is toned down (map edit or dml), the effect should stop hogging the engine so much.

Did one of the texture packs change the shape/size/appearance of the cameras in Thief Gold's Cragscleft Prison? I seem to remember the camera being much bigger and obvious when I played it than it is in this play-through.

This poor guy spends almost an hour trying to figure out what is triggering the alarm If the camera is, indeed, smaller in this video than LGS made it, it might be worth taking it back to its origins more, as it being so small and non-descript didn't help his plight. (I think there are a couple cameras like this in the level.) Possibly also even updating it to give it a metal with glass breaking type of sound, rather than the soft, gentle sound heard in this video, and also a replacement texture that shows the glass cracking or something, if that's possible? Maybe even a tiny LED that lights up on it when triggered, like TMA? Or is that going too far for TG purists?

Just a thought, as I felt sorry for this guy. He was a good sport about it, I give him an "A" for tenacity and patience, but I think some players would probably just throw the towel in on the game if they experienced the same. I'd hate for that to happen if it is just a result of one of the new texture patches...? as it is much smaller and harder to notice (thus seems to play a lesser role in the alarm being triggered) than when I played.

The fun begins at about the 04h 01m 39s mark in TorNis' video. Once he finally finds the solution (55 minutes later), his reaction is priceless, too: 04h 55m 26s

(You have to click the link in upper-right to say you're okay with the mature content)

I don't understand why the camera also stops rotating when he tries to time his movement for when the camera is facing away from him. Does it have eyes in the back of its 'head', so to speak? If so, maybe it needs a different design altogether, where it has two 180-degree cameras that cover roughly the whole 360-degrees, or something? Or if sound also triggers it, maybe it can be made slightly more evident? I haven't played Thief Gold for a while, so forgive me if I'm off-base with anything. I also don't know what texture patch he's using, so I'm not sure if this is a good thread for this; I just wanted to mention, in case it hasn't been noticed as a potential problem before.

That is funny, I just ran by the damn thing... objectives had been completed anyway.. but a cracked lense and the sound of glass tinkling would definitely be waaaay cooler.

BTW Gecko, I went to that site to donate but I don't read too much German. A bit, took it in highscool but that was ohhhh 26 years ago .....

    Got an English version?

    wait thats a camera?
i always thought it was the thing making the alarm sound and the guard would trigger the alarm

Seems to be either a camera, or some sort of spyglass/periscope type contraption? Not sure what the original texture was, so hard for me to say...

It has nothing to do with the HD Mod. I think it's TFix or the "Thief Enhancement Pack 2.0"!?

By the way...i didn't know that a broadhead arrow can shut down the camera Good to know!

TFix is not making any change in obj size.

    Gecko... Tremendous, just tremendous work...

It's obvious that this has been a labor of love and it's breathed new life into one of my favorite games. I'm enjoying just wandering around the levels and taking in the sights. Well done and I can only hope that Thief 2 receives the same treatment (someday! Er... but you can surely reuse some of the work you've already done? ). Between the new textures and New Dark... Well, I never dreamed Thief would ever look so good!

I tried the mod on your original release and there were some issues but it seems most of the glaring bugs have been cleared up; looks like you've just got some minor texture work left to do (locks, rubble, a few doors, etc.). It's so jarring now to see a texture from 1998 in our beautiful new Thief. Also, the animated molten rock in the Maw was suitably creepy, like the rock was weeping lava .

    Keep it up!

As I wander the twisted mad halls of the sword level mansion... secret whispers and little giggles following me around every corner... I realize that they just don't use the electronic medium for art like they used to. Then another thought comes to my mind. In the previous level, in the thieves guild, I wandered around for 4 and a half hours before I figured it all out.. That place was just simply HUGE and COMPLEX... and not one load screen appeared.

Just imagine what could be done with a Thief game on TODAYS hardware if there was some developer out there that made it PC ONLY!!!

    Consoles have ruined the medium......

    @ karmaKGB

Thank you. And yes, there were many changes from v0.8.5 up to 0.9.2
But there is still much to do ...

I installed Thief Gold. Then TFix. Then EP1. Then EP2. Then this HD Mod. I went into training mission and the trees for example in the shooting area aren't definitely HD.. they don't look the same as in your preview video. And in The Sword, the texture for the building from outside view is rather blurry compared to other stuff.

I'm only recently rediscovering Thief and all of these enhancement packs etc. Is there anything I can do to fix these problems that I mentioned?

Could you post your "cam_mod.ini" here and maybe a screenshot from the training mission (trees). Thanks
