    [Developer Commentary Added] T2 FM - Lingering Whispers - (8 Sept 2011)

    Lingering Whispers
    grapesareyum(at)gmail(dotcom)

    Release Date: 9/8/2011
    Revision Date: 10/1/2012
    Version: 1.0.2

    Mission inspired by DarthsLair.

Please feel free to contact me with feedback, including constructive criticism.
Pointing out the flaws is how I improve as a level designer.

    Background
Some time has passed since Garrett sabotaged Karras's plans to destroy all life. The loss of their leader and the revealed fanaticism of their faith have caused Mechanists to fall out of favor, allowing the Hammerite faith to rise again. As many Mechanists convert or flee, there are less people to maintain the many complicated security devices around the City. The existence of the Mechanists is being slowly wiped away in the ensuing chaos.

Garrett has been mostly keeping to himself after the incident at Soulforge, resting and so far living on the lucre acquired during his partnership with Viktoria. Now, his funds have once more run dry and he is forced to take to thieving again to support himself. It seems like all of Garrett's efforts to save the City from Constantine and Karras were ultimately pointless when he is again forced to scrounge for coins just to keep his landlord happy and his belly full.

During this needy time, a nobleman, Lord Rein von Krane, has contacted Garrett wishing to hire his expert services. It may not be a choice job, but it's a job.

I'm really mad at you, man. I was just planning to go to sleep. But I can't just leave this FM behind without trying it.

But no, congrats on the release, seriously.

Edit: And remembering the forest section in your project with ticky, I think I'll surely enjoy this one.

Edit2: Yeah, I think I'm gonna love this one. Just got killed by Karras' ghost.

Haha, you're just glad that, now that testing is over, you don't have to play it again. Me, too.

Yep, at 4 hours a shot, but it was always fun and enjoyable never the less.

A very well done mission !

I am beta testing Cataclysmic Revelations now, just checking game play features, and I am certainly sick of running through on" one hour shots" over and over and over again

Thank thy Builder for thy Beta-Testers !!!!

    Nice mission indeed.
How do you use the chemistry set I have the book, the flasks make the clicking noises but when I highlight the sap tank and click on it nothing happens..it remains with 12 drops....also, is it possible to kill Karrass ghost...
    Enjoying this a lot.

@ SC, I would post your email address in open forum, due to earch engine spiders and data mining etc.

    Re: the chemistry set

Gentle hint: Read the readables carefully. One is on a shelf in the apothecary shop, the other is on a shelf upstairs in the area you go through immediately after starting the mission.

Stronger hint: One readable tells you which bunsen burners to light, the other tells you - obliquely - the order of which 'humors' (bulbs) to frob. You don't need to frob the sap tank at the end to make things.

Giveaway: One of the readables says never to use the same item twice a row. So, for example, if, for a specific item, it tells you to use 1 drop of A, 2 drops of C and 1 drop of B, and says to start with A and end with C, do ACBC. Doing this, and having the right burners lit underneath, should cause one of the empty bottles to morph into your desired concoction, and the amount of drops of sap in the tank to decrease.

Finally, figuring out the apothecary is not required to complete the mission, it's just a help if you need one more healing potion, holy water, etc.

Those shadow AI are actually supposed to be black with red eyes. If they look green to you, that means you have your gamma set way too high. If you want the "full experience" (that is, having to use the portable lights given to you), I recommend setting your gamma down to the point where the only part you can see in the dark is the red eyes. You shouldn't be able to see their bodies unless they are between you and a light area.

Odd. Not sure where that could have happened. Too bad you don't have a screenshot!

Well obviously there's some favouritism going on here. I don't have a lantern!

Congratulations on the release scarykitties. I'm really enjoying myself though I haven't got very far yet having been distracted by a bit of sport.

Hmm... Now that I see a screenie of the lantern, I know what it is but not why it is there.

Fingers crossed that this does not mean a major bug down the road. Let me know if anyone notices anything else out of the ordinary.

For those who don't see the lantern, be glad. Any others that do, say so.

If you mean that if the lantern appears there, you can't pick up the lantern in the mine - there is no problem there, at least. If you didn't mean that, then I'll just keep playing till I hit against a possible bug.

I did not get the lantern but when I picked up the iron ore and then again when I picked up the copper ore I could no longer run?? I could only walk I have had this happen a long time ago!
I tried getting completely out of Thief and loading save but still only walking speed. I then turned off my PC but still no good, then finally it started working again don't know what I did? Untill I picked up the copper ore??? then it was back to walking

Maybe the ore is heavy? A coupe of FMs in the past slowed you down when you picked up certain objects, usually as a plot point. (Get chased by horrible deadly things while carrying a man-sized bag of gold or something.)
