Widescreen and tweaks patches: The Sneaky Upgrade for Thief 3, the Visible Upgrade for Deus Ex 2
2 things -
- Since version 1.1.1 and the latest version the brightness selector in-game no longer works.
- Since versions 1.1.2 the Fm selector wont choose the path I had previously set for my FMs.
my specs:
Intel Core i5 2500 3.4GHz
8GB RAM
G-byteGeForce GTX 670
Creative Labs Xfi
Monitor 16:9 with FullHD res (1680x1050)
Windows 8 Pro 64-bits
JohnP's texture pack
I can't reproduce this. Better check that your options.ini file is writable. If it is, can you change other options and they'll stick?
Do you get an error message? Better post the following paths:Since versions 1.1.2 the Fm selector wont choose the path I had previously set for my FMs.
- The path to your FM archives (this is the problem path, yes?)
- The path to where FMs are installed
- The game installation path
- The savegames path
I've a feeling I'll have to get Win8 in the end, just so I can test this thing.Windows 8 Pro 64-bits![]()

Its readable, and no what ever setting I select in-game the brightness setting is unaltered.
- D:\Downloads\Games\Thief\Missions\Archive
- D:\Downloads\Games\Thief\Missions\
- E:\Games\Thief\T3\
- D:\Documents\Thief - Deadly Shadows\SaveGames - (I would like to changes this as per the sneaky readme)
Can you manually edit the Brightness setting in options.ini? Edit: When you get FMs working again, see if the brightness works when playing one of those (because different options files are used).
The archive path can't be inside the FM installation path (FMSel restriction). Either move the installed FMs and FMSel's private files to a subfolder of Missions and edit SneakyOptions.ini to change the InstallPath option accordingly, or (easier) move Archive up into Thief.
- D:\Downloads\Games\Thief\Missions\Archive
- D:\Downloads\Games\Thief\Missions\
Did this work previously? IIRC FMSel always had that restriction.
What does it say in the readme? (No-one reads the readme, including me.D:\Documents\Thief - Deadly Shadows\SaveGames - (I would like to changes this as per the sneaky readme))

Widescreen and tweaks patches: The Sneaky Upgrade for Thief 3, the Visible Upgrade for Deus Ex 2
I will check all this when I get home this evening.
- I have tried various brightness settings and while the setting are saved the in-game brightness never changes.
- Ok got the FMs working by using the following paths
- E:\Thief\T3\Fms - The FMs Im playing are un-archived to here
- D:\Downloads\Games\Thief\Missions\T3 - this is where I have always downloaded and stored my missions
I can confirm the brightness slider works in-game with v 1.1.0, not having the brightness working in the latest version is a major ball ache.
And in addition, 1.1.2 re-breaks the vysnc/lockpic/wall-hug issue.

The only thing I can think of that could cause something like this is if your graphics driver needs to give T3Main.exe special treatment - and because of the patching it's not recognized anymore.
If you're up for it I'll PM you some experimental files to try later.
This may be the same issue, but if you have a monitor that can do high refresh rates, then try enforcing 60 Hz.And in addition, 1.1.2 re-breaks the vysnc/lockpic/wall-hug issue.

I am having the same problem with T3 brightness in Windows 8. I can change in the game, and change in the options.ini, but the actual brightness does not change at all. My T3 fms are in a subfolder of desktop, while main game is in my programs folder.
I gave myself a thief installation party last night on this new machine and everything from T1 on up went in slick. Initially, I had the same problem with brightness in all three patches: TFix 1.15, Tafferpatcher, T3 Sneaky Upgrade.
However in the T1 and T2 patches, I was able to edit their respective cam_ext.cfg files to uncomment d3d_disp_no_rgb10_buf and this solved my problems with TG and T2. I can now adjust gamma in-game.
I've been blundering about looking for a similar fix for T3, but have so far not found it. It is literally too dark to see where I'm going. I'm not all that confident about editing files without guidance, so am eagerly waiting to see if a fix for this appears.![]()
that would suggest that you have an intel integrated graphics card = intel driver issue. buying a real graphics card is probably the only proper solution here.
Hey guys, I've looked through this thread and hadn't found an anwser to my question, so I'll ask it.
I download Thief DS from Steam, launch it for the first time and then install Sneaky Upgrade 1.1.2. After that the game just silently crash right after launch. I tried different settings(always launch with FM or not), launched via steam and via link on desktop - result is the same. 1.1.1.1 gives the same result, however the 1.1.0 is working, so I presume the problem is in FM. I could play with it, but I'd like to figure out how to launch newer versions, so - any ideas on what the problem is?
Windows 7 x64, NVIDIA GeForce 560 Ti.
Try this, it will free the game from Steam, and make it independent of the registry:
- Uninstall any patches
- In Steam / Library:
- Right-click T:DS and select Properties
- In the Local Files tab, click Verify Integrity and let it complete
- Click Browse Local Files. An explorer window will open
- Exit Steam and close down any virus checker
- In Explorer, go up one level to the "common" folder and copy (best, if you have the disk space) or move the "Thief Deadly Shadows" folder to a neutral location, such as C:\Games (so the new game path will be C:\Games\Thief Deadly Shadows)
- In the new location, go to the System folder and rename or move T3.exe
- Download this file and copy the T3.exe it contains into the System folder
- Move the SaveGames folder in Thief Deadly Shadows\Save up one level, so that the path is C:\Games\Thief Deadly Shadows\SaveGames
- In the System folder, make a new file called Sneaky.ini and paste the following into it:
This will set the path for savegames to the game installation path, overriding the registry.Code:[install] IgnoreSavesKey=true- Install the Sneaky Upgrade, make sure to select the new path instead of the default one. The "always launch FMSel" item should now be unchecked, leave it like that
If you skip items 7-8 the savegames location will stay the default for Steam - this should work too.
The T3.exe you download is the one from the T3 editor pack, this is to avoid Steam's patches.

Getting crashes to desktop when attempting to change keybindings, is this a known problem?
I have a new laptop, and today I surrendered and installed Windows 8 on it. (Man Win8 gets in your way a lot...)
Luckily all the issues reported by Windows 8 users are reproducible - a list of known issues has been added to the last release post.
Right now it looks like there are fixes for all items except for the desktop showing during load. Hopefully I can get a bugfix release out soon.

Bugfix release 1.1.2.1 is out. Anyone who's had trouble running 1.1.1 or later should try this version.
This release fixes all of the reported Windows 8 issues. The desktop thing may not be perfect but it should be much improved. Thanks to bikerdude for testing.
Another significant fix: The old widescreen issue where text would turn large or disappear if you left the game temporarily is finally gone. Feel free to alt-tab away to get hints or take notes...
A couple of other issues were fixed as well. There's a list in the 1.1.2.x release post.

Thanks snobel . Your great work lets us enjoy this game on modern pcs . keep it up !
Do you know of any way to increase the npc count in the city ? I always feel the city is some times like a ghost town ! and how do I prevent the camera from moving up and down when i run ? Any way to use shaders like sweetfx with this game ?
You're welcome... The tweak to remove head bobbing can be found in the tweaks thread:
For your other questions, hopefully one of the T3 mappers is around.Disable First-Person Head Bobbing
Contributed by Komag
This tweak will remove the up-and-down bobbing motion of the camera in first-person mode. Note, however, that this also disables head bobbing in third-person mode, which will look rather odd, but in first-person mode you will of course probably not notice, unless you happen to be studying your shadow on the wall while moving back and forth.
In T3PlayerAnims.ini:
Find the "-- NORMAL GROUND MOVEMENT --" section
Change all [Forward1] through [Forward6]
Change:
'Translate=false'
to:
'Translate=true'There's also the Minimalist Project, if you find the game too easy...

NPC density is map-related, so that would require a re-compilation of the map files. I wonder, however, how you manage to get ghost towns. Usually NPCs re-spawn on every corner to prevent exactly that. The City in TDS seemed to be too crowded for many people in the first place.![]()
