    T2 FM: Pestis Cruenta (25-03-12) - Thief Reloaded Contest #2 entry

    Hello taffers,

    Here's my 11th mission and my submission to the second Thief Reloaded Contest. The mission is based on the city map of Thief: Deadly Shadows, converted to Dark Engine by Child of Karras.

    With this mission I have tried to achieve two goals: 1. To bring TDS to the people who never had the chance to play it, and 2) to create a mission I wish TDS had but it didn't.

    =========================================
    * Story *

    Abarrach, or the properous City of Stone, used to be inhabited by a group of peaceful people who possessed some magical abilities. However the inhabitants left the city suddenly, and disappeared. Now nothing but undead roam their streets. It is rumoured that a mysterious plague was the reason behind this mass exodus.
    This rumour has been strong enough to keep all thieves and adventurers away from the deserted city. But I have decided to pay it a visit and liberate it from its valuables; I'm sure the undead don't need them.

    =========================================
    * Important Notes *

    - Read the texts carefully, they contain vital clues to the puzzles. I have tried to keep them short, none are more than two pages.
    - The combination puzzle is different on each difficulty. If you are having trouble solving it use the alternate method provided, which is much easier. Also you can find the solutions to the puzzles in the Hints directory installed with the mission.

    The full credits are available in the mission text file.

    Download link: here and here.
    Lootlist (thanks to Nightwalker).

    Just like my previous missions, I'd like to ask you not to give out outright spoilers when helping the others on the forum. Either point them to the clues they might have missed or elaborate more on the clues if they have trouble understanding them.

    Special thanks to Child of Karras for the conversion, to Brethren for starting the contest and to my beta testers for their help, patience and support. The voting for the contest will start in a few weeks after all the missions have been released. Brethren will announce it when the time comes.

    I hope you will enjoy this mission.

    What a great way to spend your favorite day of the week!!!
    It's so easy, but I can't do it.
    So risky - but I gotta chance it.
    It's so funny, there's nothing to laugh about

    Mission Complete!

    Wow, you've managed to create a faithful recreation of the City in T2, well done!

    Don't read this, if you do not wish to know the ending.
    I was shocked by the ending BTW, i thought it would have a happy ending. From the mission intro, would i be right in saying that it's been a long time from the inhabitants going to sleep and the other people leaving? before Garrett pays it a visit? It sounds like the City of Stone is a legend and people know not to go there. In that case it's no surprised they all, died, perhaps if only they had found the solution sooner.

    Glad you liked the mission. The original recreation was done by CoK, I took it and gave it a story.
    By the way, did you find the easter egg?

    As for your question (contains major spoilers), this is the timeline I had in mind: The exodus happened two years after the Sleep, and Garrett's visit around six months after the exodus. The pharmacist died three days before Garrett got there. The Sleepers died because the inhabitants continued practicing necromancy.

    Have a little question. I am trying to get to the attic of the banker - used climbing gloves, attempted to a miraculous jump and tried to fetch some boxes to pile up and thus to reach the window (from outside the house) or the beams. Nothing worked. Any tips? Thanks .

    You can get there only from inside.

    Congrats on being the first to enter the contest.

    One question:

    spoiler:

    How do I use the climbing gloves?

    You have to get through the north gate first. Then check out the first building you come to.

    I have all objectives except melt the locket.

    I have the wax, a lit torch, and an empty bucket that I can't seem to fill anywhere despite the presence of a well and massive quantities of salt water. A hint would be appreciated.

    Nice mission, even if some of the puzzles are a bit tough.

    Hint: Look for a small room not too far from where you found the mould and find something to put the bucket on rather than in.
