When it comes to cyberpunk, "generic" isn't really that much of a negative.

I was about to say similar. It's about getting it right rather than trying to do something which no one has done yet.

I see what they were trying to do with the camera zooming out from the poster-like cover girl with cybernetic death claws. It's really cool. I question why we had to see her underwear in that awkward angle, and something tells me that we shall never see her in the actual game. Also, from what I gather, this game is like Deus Ex mixed with Blacklight: Retribution in terms of mood, just replace the Denton models with a Victoria's Secret catalog.

I question the wisdom of reforming murderous, rampaging cyborgs, who're addicted to augmentations and then incorporating them into your police force.

Oh and here's a summary of the press release that should provide some context for the trailer.
The game will feature a multi-thread, nonlinear story designed for mature players that will take place in the sprawling metropolis of Night City.

Players will have a chance to freely roam the open-world environment and visit places well known from the pen-and-paper RPG Cyberpunk 2020, including a combat zone completely taken over by gangs, the legendary Afterlife joint and the nostalgic Forlorn Hope.

The story revolves around tech advancement and the decay of society.

Body augmentations invented to serve society have instead multiplied its problems, and new inventions have led to addictions and poverty became an even larger problem.

The player character was raised on the streets, and tries to lift himself up from the gutter and find a way to survive amongst boostergangs and megacorporations in a city of filth and sin.

People addicted to augmentations go on rampages, and the streets are filled with junkies addicted to a new form of entertainment – the braindance, a cheap way to experience the emotions and stimuli of someone else, someone living a more exciting life.

Braindances are made by corporations, but there are also illegal underground ones available. Entering the mind of a serial killer means not only seeing the monstrosity he performs, but also living his lust to kill and fulfilment.

That last bit is very Strange Days, but then Strange Days was a lot like Cyberpunk.

I was a big fan of the p&p as a teenager, didn't actually play much of it though. High nostalgia-fuelled hopes for the game.

I'm really hoping that an "RPG for Mature Players" doesn't mean the same thing it does in the Witcher, which is your basic story driven RPG with titties. I personally prefer substance over titties, especially if my wife happens to catch me playing a video game, which should be... y'know... frequently.

I bought both Witchers from GOG and downloaded all of the "extra content". Turns out without much warning it contains a bunch of stills of Triss posing for playboy.
    real deep, real mature

You mean the single file for TW2 labelled "Triss Playboy Session"?

    Yeah.

Yeah I can see how you can mistake the contents of that particular file. Not a fan of Boris Vallejo, I take it?

The "sexy cyborg" in the trailer is probably more of an homage to Ghost in the Shell than anything else.

The only remaining original, organic part of the Shosah is some brain matter. Her "shell" is is supposed to be "the best of the best" tech wise, so why not extend that theme to its physical appearance (i.e. being drop dead gorgeous)? It's certainly helped with undercover assignments as seen in episodes of Stand Alone Complex.

The point is cyber augmentation addiction would be the equivalent to today's plastic surgery addiction. People get "augmented" to become better and that obviously would include their physical appearance, not just practical capabilities (eg enhanced senses, strength, speed, "concealed weapons", etc).

Anyway the "shit loads of chicks wanting to bone Geralt on the regular" thing is from the original novels. Ignoring the whole "sex trading card" nonsense, CDPR didn't just tack it on to sell copies of their games to 13-year-olds.

I'm not trying to start a crusade or anything, I just think there's a lot more to maturity than sexuality.

No disagreement there. I think most us here dislike the tits and gore "maturity" that's popular in mainstream media, like AAA games. Gears of War is a good example of the this type of "maturity".

Call of Duty I'd say is borderline. In Treyarch's trilogy you get the ugly side of war deliberately showcased in cutscenes, but then you have schism with the unscripted gameplay where violence is naturally glorified (with exceptions like burning out trenches in WaW with a flamethrower); Eg the "tacticool" arsenal war porn of Blops 1 & 2.

In conclusion, the Treyarch trilogy tries to have their cake and eat it too. WaW is the most successful, with the Russian front narrative (Reznov losing his humanity thanks to his blood thirst for vengeance for Stalingrad), but this diminishes with each successive game.

Great. Now I want this game alongside Thief IV.

I never though it was that intrusive in the game... The postcard thing was weird, though.

    paging Jashin

"Mature" and "adult" are two different things.

Tell that to the games industry.

Bar a handful of titles, marketing as a Mature Game means tits, blood and swearing.

Somehow, I don't think that Bob's Real Life Office Space Simulator is going to sell very well.

Don't forget the the brown nosing, the poo (from the brown nosing), the philandering, the dead babies, and the figurative knives in every other person's hands waiting to be plunged between every other other person's shoulder blades.

The more I think about it, the more true to life the Witcher is.

Maybe the developers think that if people have more sex they would mellow out. You know, maybe they're just really optimistic.

This is already my most anticipated game at the moment. Since the mid-90s I've wanted to play a singler player open world cyberpunk RPG, and now it finally looks like my "dream game" is about to become reality. Can't wait to play it!

The second concept sketch makes me think even more about Ghost in the Shell.

Just for a bit of trivia and some unofficially related content. The Electronic artist "Access to Arasaka" based his entire discography on a concept from the Pen & Paper version of the game. I quite like it and its the glitch that I have on most heavy rotation on my Walkman / Android. You can even download his albums for free if you find the right website (not piracy).

When CDP announced Cyberpunk 2077 he said in an interview how awesome he thought it would be if they wanted him to do music for it, but nobody approached him, not that he is hugely popular or anything, I just found him in a corner of the internet. Extremely talented though, check it out.

EDIT: apparently his albums have been taken down, you have to buy them now, but that EP is free to download. Not sure when it changed but I have all of his stuff that was previously released for free without using any extra-legal means.
