Thread: Forum upgrade

This probably isn't worth a whole new thread - I can't access the mobile site with my Windows Phone. I can access the regular site, but the mobile version loads the forum index fine but tapping on any of the subforums will only give me a blank page with the logo and the Home/Config bar and nothing else. Using a Lumia 520, Internet Explorer, Windows Phone 8 Amber.

Just got Tapatalk so not really an issue for me, but thought it worth pointing out.

Thanks - well spotted. When we had the password issue we changed the main forum password too as a precaution and the mobile site was still trying to use the old one and failing silently.

And here I was thinking it was a case of no love for the Windows. All working now, cheers!

I think the search backend broke in some way again; posts made after January 14th aren't being returned when I search members' posts.

Thanks, I'll take a look later (and give it a stern talking to so it doesn't do it again)

Also, the "Who tagged it?" link at the bottom of the thread returns the 500 error page: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/tags/tags.aspx?thread=139905

    Both issues should be sorted

The 'Who tagged it' problem should go back on your to-fix list. It says Forum Upgrade now. Unless you're just taking the piss.

Your post today isn't there in a search, Al, but before that seems OK.

That tag link was empty because no-one had tagged the thread (this one). I agree it would be better if it showed something a bit more obvious but I haven't touched the tagging function since David worked on it. I've added a tag now so hopefully it's less confusing (for this thread at least )

    LMAO.

I never look at tags so that didn't even occur to me. A couple of caps would have been good though.

Tags are all automatically changed to lowercase but I've done what I can.

Would there be any way to search by post type? I'm trying to find an old reference and when I search for the phrase it just links me to a few megathreads with several hundred fucking pages that I would have to comb through manually.

On the search pages, select 'view results as: posts' instead of threads.

    So, uh....

Nothing sinister. There are currently two web services on the server- one for TTLG and one for our sub-sites. The wrong one started responding to forum requests giving the 404 error. I'll be having stern words with it later to ensure it doesn't happen again.

No-one suggested there was anything sinister, so why the need to suggest otherwise unless there was something sinister? Rumbled!

    Hi,
I have not been very active lately and catching up on all the stuff I missed during the last 3 months.
I noticed that all threads older than 10 days are marked as 'read' - whether I actually ever saw them or not.
The FAQ - How can I see the latest posts? confirms this behavour, but also states it is a setting to be made globally by them admins.
Is there any reason to keep that limit so low?

There is a built-in time limit to this, however, that will automatically mark all threads as 'read' after a set number of day, whether you really have read them or not. The default setting is 10 days, but the administrator could make this higher or lower.

It's an interesting question. The database marking used is a bit forum intensive but not too bad. I've increased the limit to 30 days to reflect the fact that others may not be quite as frequent visitors as they may have been at one point - this will likely mean that some threads between 10 and 30 days may show up as unread if they were automatically marked as unread. Of course, the real solution is to simply visit more often

Lol I came in and suddenly there's ALL these unread posts except they're all old and I'm like what the heck is going on... Time to hit "Mark Forums Read" I guess.
