    Forum upgrade

As part of some performance improvements, the forum software that TTLG is currently using will be upgraded tomorrow (26th August). This will require around three hours of downtime to allow backups to be made, the forum upgrade to run and the latest changes to be merged. This is currently planned for 1pm GMT.

The most visible change is a new message editor which has some additional features including retrieval of text if there's a problem with posting. There are likely to be a few things that may not work immediately and it would help immensely if these could be noted in this thread after the upgrade has been performed.

    Any chance for avatars?

Sorry, but that's not planned at the moment. We know that some people want them enabled but there needs to be agreement on how to best handle them and there are some other things that are a higher priority (reducing delays when posting being one of them).

I understand. Thanks Al, I appreciate your efforts.

It took a little longer than expected for some of the database index changes to complete, but the forum upgrade has now been completed. There are likely to be a few tweaks over the next few days but nothing that should require as much downtime as today.

As mentioned above, if you spot any major problems please post them here. Thanks.

Rendering problem in that new input box:

Also, I would humbly request to tweak a bit the layout of the Activity Stream page to resemble more the old What's New?. I'm put off especially by the density of content, there is far too much white now space IMO, and less contrast.

The edit box seems to be completely broken as well.

Strange - the icons in the new editor should display but you may want to force a full refresh (shift+refresh or ctrl+refresh) in case your browser has the old style sheet cached.

I'll look at the activity stream layout later along with sorting the thread icons in individual forums and some other layout issues..

I don't have any problem with the edit box displaying but the "Go Advanced" link doesn't work.

I couldn't edit the post above this one. I could get the edit box and type in the changes but the "Save" button does nothing either.

Also, the "Quick Navigation" menu on the bottom right of the page no longer has links to the various fora.

New Message Editor Interface User Customizations?

Is there any way to reduce the number of lines devoted to the text formatting buttons? Currently they take three rows of space where a single row would be sufficient to accommodate them all. I cannot find any off the top, but then I find the vBulletin intuitive interface to be somewhat counter-intuitive, and I have to rely on learning and memory instead, a somewhat iffy proposition in my case. In any event, there seems to be a large amount of unused and unusable white space, which, if I could rearrange things for myself, I could make good use of. For example, I seem to be able to resize the edit box itself up and down, making it vertically larger and smaller, but not left to right, so the extra white space to the side, to the left of the emoticons is quite useless.

Hmm, I seem to have lost the privilege to post images directly to the forum, and now must go through a third party. Any estimate when you will get the attachment feature working for those of us who took that as our "bonus" for subscribing?

EDIT: Manage Attachments is now working again. Thanks!

Editing a post does not allow SAVE after the edit

This is a bit of a loss of capability. The SAVE, GO ADVANCED, DELETE, and CANCEL buttons at the bottom do no longer work.

It seems that I can now re-save after editing a post. Thanks!

Now why is there an Edit Post option while in the process of already editing a post?

And where did that giant white box around my pic in the above post come from? It isn't part of the picture.

Sorry there are so many problems, Al.

Came here to whine about the edit box. Had to open a whole 'nother tab for it to work.

I also notice that the site no longer colors in the page number you're on.

Also the little icons next to threads are huge and oversized and actually don't display properly.

Strange - if I open the image directly from photobucket the white box is there. Can you double-check it at your end?

Don't apologise - there are quite a few style changes that were hard coded before that are now variables of templates. They're being worked through but may take until tomorrow to sort them all out.

Azaran: If you do a refresh you'll probably not be complaining that the text is too large at the moment...

Just a glitch in the matrix . Editing posts should now work, but please post back if there is still a problem. I'll continue to work on the rest of the issues such as incorrect font sizes and layout issues with the forum and editor tomorrow.

I guess you mean Imageshack, not Photobucket. OK, that's weird. You're right, at Imageshack the white box is there. On my hard drive, it's not. That's the first time I've seen that happen. At least it isn't the forum software that is the culprit. Sorry for the confusion. Now I'd like to figure out what happened at Imageshack.

I'm seeing font size discrepancies between viewing a forum vs. a thread. The text on the forum view is tiny, about 2-3 sizes smaller than when viewing a thread.
