Well, I've got to say it's kinda disappointing. Sounds more like a generic Batman music than Thief...
Do we know who's doing the musics in this game ? Michael McCann did an outstanding work with Deus Ex HR, even with the very first teaser trailer.
Paul Weir was the original composer, but he left Eidos Montreal a year ago so I don't know whether this is his stuff, especially considering his "Stealing Sound" presentation at GDC 2011 included music that was much better and more thiefy:

Gotta agree with DrK that this doesn't sound very "thiefy", but apart from that I don't think it's too bad. It is a bit generic indeed, but at least it doesn't try to be excessively "epic" like most other game soundtracks. Hopefully there'll be something more recognisable and different in the game though.
Oh come on, I know that's your attempt at being sarcastic, but dubstep? We all know that you want the new Thief to fail badly so that you can come back later with your "I told you so!" posts, but is it really necessary to make up things like this just to "prove a point"?
Indeed it sounds much more interesting than the trailer music. If he left EM a year ago I doubt they still use his work, and the game is still in developement until at least 2014 so I guess they found someone else.
Hell the more I know about the developement of Thiaf, the more I worry...
Thanks for posting that mp3. I've listened to it a few times over a couple of days and I it's growing on me. I like what Paul demoed as well, it's a shame that his work has been/will be scraped for the music (or it seems atm anyways). I would assume whatever sound effect work he did would still be in unless it was no good.
We don't want it to fail...We want TEEF to be THIEF...EM will have to do their part, otherwise the THIEF community will rightously consider it a failure as a THIEF game...and it will always be known as TEEF.
Okay. 0:32 - 0:48 actually reminded me of the Bonehoard, or other 'creepy' missions.
But why ruin that lovely 10 or so seconds with loud-ass horns and orchestra stuff? *sigh*
If they just stick with that creepy ambient-style music, then that'd be great.
If I had to pick a color to describe this music, it would be greyish brown. It reminds me of that trailer from that one hollywood summer blockbuster from a few years ago, or was it last year? You know the one I'm talking about.
Really, I can't see this fitting Thief. It just has no identity, which is a real problem for a franchise with an image as prominent as the Thief franchise. Ideally they'd kick it off with that signature wind chime jingle, but that's asking for a bit much, maybe. (then again, the first DX3 trailer had the deus ex intro tossed in effectively...which in itself is not recognizable to the masses, but a charming nod to the fans. Thief 4 could use something like that, desperately at this point).
What I liked about Thief, is it had a clear medieval inspired fantasy setting, ripe in steampunk and industrial affairs, and heavy 90s hiphop beats and guitar riffs set the stage for what was clearly not your ordinary fantasy affair, and it fit. It didn't shout out "I'm different!" it knew it already, and made you know it the moment you heard that wicked tune, evoking dark ambient, hiphop, grunge and industrial music.
At this point, we can't assume the music used in these video spots is even from the game's soundtrack. Some of the videos give music credit to Sam Keenan, who composes stock music but doesn't appear to be otherwise associated with the production of the game. I'm guessing the team that put the videos together (probably a crew from Game Informer) just snagged some ominous tracks from Keenan's library and dropped them in for effect.
Unlikely. When GI include music files with their articles, it's to showcase music from the actual game. Doing this with stock music would be entirely pointless.

Hmm, I think it might be a good idea to put that tracklist in spoiler tags. These track names seem to reveal quite a lot about the story.
Thanks for the link though, where is this from?
trying to think how this soundtrack could be even more generic. drawing a blank
essentially with this snoozefest they brazenly assert the most critical and defining aspect of the series, audio, is not really that important

Listened to it without reading track titles: sounds creepy and atmospheric, it should work in the game.
While this music is better than the WUBWUB featured in every single running segment in the game, I agree with how it sounds more like Batman: Arkham Asylem music than Thief.
